Substitutes:

Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

Low XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
Level 20+
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

I highly discourage trying to level a beast pet on this fight. No matter how you try it your beast pet is going to get wrecked.

I agree-used a level 24 Beast with 1426 Health and died twice-came here to confirm. If you are using Rematch, under Leveling Preferences just set Minimum Health to 1300 and mark "Expected Damage Taken" as Mechanical. Rematch will make sure not to put a Beast pet in unless they have at least 1950 Health. Set the lower section of the preferences as you normally would.

Xar wrote on 2021-02-17 14:37:22

Agree, came to say the same thing. My level 24 beast (1216 h) died when the last mob did *something*. It would be really cool if you'd edit it to say don't use a beast so I can remember that next time :)

Can you please add the Harbinger of Flame as a possible substitution to 1st/3rd pets? That one also has Burn/Immolate/Conflagrate abilities. I also used Lava Crab (H/H) as a 3rd pet, worked well. Thanks for this strat!

Immolate doesn't have a cooldown - I assume you mean keep the buff up?

Due to the severe nerf to pet XP from BfA world quests in Patch 8.1.0, it's not worth bothering having a carry pet. Better to just get the fight over and done with.

While I wasn't trying for a leveling pet strategy, using the same move combination worked wonders to clear the fight with little issue. FYI: Other same moveset pets (to keep you from searching in vain :D): Phoenix Hatchling, Searing Scorchling, Dark Phoenix Hatchling, Harbinger of Flame, Spirit of Summer

Or you could just click the arrows on the "Substitutes" tab...
Also, I tried all the others and this was the only pair that worked consistently. If you want a better success rate, use the FF and Raggy.

This strat is fantastic and has worked 6 times in a row without any issue and was able to easily level a pet just as stated. Thanks !

Works great, got it first try. Thanks.

Tried about 5 times, carry pets died every time. HP Fel Flame, 2 different lvl 20 carries, although one of those pets didn't have the recommended hit points.

IvanYakinoff wrote on 2018-09-24 12:53:48

Don't forget to move the leveling pet in like i did

Huncamunca wrote on 2018-09-24 13:11:01

Thanks for the reminder! Starting with the leveling pet solved this problem for me. Excellent strategy.
