Substitutes:

Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

Keep up your two buffs on your Emperor Crab and do all damage with surge. Will take a while but works.

Mod note: for replacements faster than enemies, use Snap instead, and you can cast defensives a round later.

Low XP
Breed
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

Tried a few times, but can't get it to work :(

I haven't tried this myself. I'll have a look, It is the standard use for a Crab, but I think the statement is misleading.

I would always say

"Use Shell Shield when it has one round left"

This is because the Crab is slow, and if you wait for the shield to fall off, you will probably get hit by one complete attck.

Also, of course, crits can mess any strat up.

OK, I tested it.

It worked smoothly (but slowly) with a P/P breed Emperor Crab, but not with a H/H breed.

And I also see automatic substitutions for other crabs that may not work.

There's nothing complicated about the failure mode. The H/H Emperor Crab mitigates and heals 202 damage per round, but the P/P recovers 244. That difference means that the H/H is slowly worn down over the long battle.

I tried with the next most powerful species with that moveset, a 325-power P/P Spirebound Crab with the same moveset, and it did succeed, but it was close. I'd say we need a power minimum of 325 to be safe. (edited)

Ah. Makes sense. My crab was indeed H/H

Meiku wrote on 2018-09-06 20:48:29

I didn't have any of the other strat pets leveled so I went with this one. It did work great, but yes very long lol. Didn't need either back line pet which was good because one died and one almost died from the AOE.

I have done this fight a few times with just the crab now and it works every time. Takes admittedly a long time but I dont have any of the other suggested strats pets on max level und with the script you dont even need to look.
Very good

I defeated this guy with a level 14 Baa'l, 25 Fel Flame and a 23 Stormstruck Beaver.
Baa'l was my leveller of choice but does have a Magic attack at a low level, it was pretty weak but the Fel Flame absolutely decimated 2/3 of the fights, the Stormstruck Beaver literally only had to jolt a couple of times to get the Robot Chicken to take off and forfeit.
