At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

Really strange, my fully-healed rare lvl 25 Clockwork Gnome was only able to get Chromadon down to about 1/3 health by his second death using nothing but Blitz. I had to finish the job with my random backline pets. Also, a lot of comments on this page don't seem related to this particular Blitz-only strat? Did the strat change at some point?

I had a look. Interesting battle. Your crits work against you, because Chromadon't shield protects him from any hit over 250. So if you got insanely "lucky" with mostly crits, you would be doing little damage - but that should be quite rare.

Otherwise, you will do 414 or 621 every round, which means 6 to 7 rounds to finish him.

He starts with Howl->Surge, which will hit you for 920. If that crit (5% chance) you would be into Failsafe after only two rounds.

Let's look at worst (unless you keep critting) case: You do 828 damage and get crit by Surge. You then do another 828 while he recovers, and 414 first on the round his Bite will kill you.So that's a bit north of 2000, or 2/3 of his health.

To take him down by only 1000ish, 1/3 of his health, you would have to crit twice out of 10, and avoid triples on all 5 rounds as well, which is pretty (un)lucky, especially adding the RNG of the crit on Surge. So it's possible, but would be very rare.

Without seeing a log, I don't know what else to say. I do see one comment below where someone else needed a backup.

I (now!) also see acomment below where I discussed the same case. D'oh!

As for the comments, this battle hasn't changed at all - and I know that because this is the strat that my Rematch had saved from Ye Olde Dayes in Legion.

Before those days, the site commonly showed only one strat per battle, and people used to write comments about other strats they had used. They still do, though it annoys some strat setters. I suspect this strat has more than most of such alternate-strat comments.

Plex wrote on 2024-07-01 07:53:05

I can confirm that my clockwork gnome (S/B) barely soloed it.

So I just started dipping into these pet battles and I've been coming here for good strats but after seeing this strat and these comments I maybe missed something. Level 25 clockwork gnome solos this with ease but not with the strat listed. with move set * 2 1 I start the fight with a turret and fill in the gaps between turret cooldowns with blitz. as the turrets do not have too much damage even after a crit and you're getting 120-240 extra damage per turn when you can blitz. I have tested this 18 times and have not failed a single time. (edited)

Always read the comments! You will see discussion below about possible outcomes. Adding a Turret to the rotation doesn't seem like a terrible idea, but I'd have to spreadheet it out to estimate whether it is an improvement overall.

It's nice to have the occasional strat that doesn't over complicate things, unlike a lot of the comment strats here. :)

Still works as of Pre-patch 9.0, took me having my 2nd Clockwork Gnome come in to finish him though.

For anyone still having trouble with this, Using pets with these attacks work perfectly: Swarm, Falcosour swarm! & Flock. undead pets with those skills are even better, I.E: Infected Squirrel

I followed this using Infected Squirrel (Stampede), Bloodgazer Hatchling and Direbeak Hatchling (Falcosaur Swarm) and it worked perfectly first time.

Rabbits work quite well using stampede and dodging Chromadon's big hitting ability.

TSP wrote on 2018-04-28 14:34:21

Even though this fight gives little EXP on regular fights, on triple EXP week it gives decent EXP. I used the Teroclaw hatchling and had two level 9 pets that I got up to 10 on this fight

Zalie wrote on 2018-07-02 22:39:10

I put a level 1 in spot 1 to absorb howl, then brought in Clockwork. Level 1 to 4 with my hat on.

Aradoa wrote on 2017-04-29 19:59:20

I use Chi-Chi with Wild Magic + Fire Quills and Ethereal after every Howl.

Geki wrote on 2017-08-03 21:55:48

I'd actually recommend going without the Wild Magic. With WM the Fire Quills hit for 237. If the Quills crit, though, it takes them above the damage cutoff point and the entire round is blocked. Had that happen to me quite a bit. If the first feather crits, the whole thing is blocked.

Eilhan wrote on 2017-10-30 14:53:36

While this fight provides very little XP for a level pet, it can actually be useful to include a level pet first in this fight to soak up the first Howl. A level 1 pet will survive and gain at least one level (Which can be useful later, since some other fights require a min level for leveling pets), and I've had more than one level 24 lacking just a few hundred XP to reach max level. The extra couple of rounds won't take long if you use a script anyways.

My setup is Level Pet, Clockwork Gnome (x,2,x) and for backup a Flayer Youngling (1,x,x), although it very rarely gets used.

Thanks for the script, use a backup pet in slot 3, with a hitting second ability and change the last line to 'ability(#2)' just in case it does need to be used.

As for the leveling pet, its just 1-4 but better than nothing, and probably be 7 if its up during the Pet Event.

Joe wrote on 2017-06-18 13:10:38

I used my Darkmoon Monkey along with my Bloodgazer and another beast pet to complete the Bloodgazer team rumble quest. Darkmoon Monkey (2/2/1) just about soloed the fight. I should have written down the steps, but every time Chromadon put the damage buff on me, I stunned him. Use Rake to keep Chromadon's damage down and keep the bananas raining down on him. I swapped in the Bloodgazer near the end because I thought he needed to fight, but I guess that's not really necessary.

Geki wrote on 2017-07-31 00:39:30

Just tried this. Went good for a while, but eventually the cooldowns of clobber and howl didn't line up properly and he nuked me with a howl buffed surge. Until then I'd only taken a raked normal surge and a raked howled bite. Kept gnome to clean up the last 200 or so hp.
