If the first rat has Call Darkness you much use Deflection. If you want you can quit the fight and restart, doing this till first rat no longer has Call Darkness. I have MPD as my 1st pet, Put Decoy at end. Then I just fight normally till MPD is dead then get my lvl pet in then onto Anub. It really all depends on the rats and you have to pay attention as MPD can solo this fight but so far this is the easiest way for me and to get a pet xp in the fight.

I've had problems on this fight when all three rats have Darkness or they get lucky with crits. I tweaked the script a bit so that it always casts Deflection on each rat's first round; it makes the fight take a couple of turns longer, but I've never had the Idol die this way.

Idol died on the first rat leaving my random 25 to fail on the other two. I thought maybe I was using the wrong team, but this page confirms that my faith in the idol should be trusted. Probably bad RNG but other strats are less RNG dependent so I'm giving up on this one.

The devs buffed Sandstorm and Call Darkness beyond all reason in Shadowlands. Nobody knows why. It makes no sense. It made nothing better and many things worse.

That will have an effect on this battle if your Idol gets hit by Darkness, which also ofc halves the Idol's racial healing.

I suspect this would now work better if you cast Deflection when your opponent has Call Darkness available, then cast Sandstorm always in the round after he casts Call Darkness to change the weather immediately.

It's mentioned further down in an earlier comment but not in the main strat so yes, if any of the rats have Call Darkness off cooldown you need to use deflect. I missed it and my Idol died too soon. Possibly better to follow the strat with the Mechanical Dragonling included.

If anyone else remembers, these are the Rats of NIMH. All critters, so I just use spiders that have Strike, Brittle Webbing, and Spiderling Swarm.

Crush is only 90% to hit once your Anubisath Idol casts Sandstorm in Round 1. Still, with only a 10% chance to miss Crush hits enough times so that your Anubisath doesn't usually die, but indeed solos the three rats. I do recommend using Deflect as suggested by "Anonymou" below.
