Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

Alternate 12 round strategy here . Pretty sure it's as stable as you can get!

Low XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.

9.1 - Rotten Little Helper doesn't last as long as he used to. Try #1 he died before Slugger, which didn't go well for me. Try #2 he died with Slugger, which I could make work. Slugger wasn't critting.
Menagerie Custodian is a decent sub for Draenei Microdefender. (edited)

My Rotten Little Helper died early as well, but Draenei Microdefender was able to finish off Slugger with one punch, resuming the original strat.

Seems very RNG whether or not the Defender can pull it off and then fulfill the his required attacks on the next mob.

The strat works almost every time, but I've never had an instance where the Micro Defender could get a hit in on the third pet. It dies every time either in the second recovery round or on the following round (but without getting to do anything because it's the slower pet).

wrote on 2021-04-12 23:20:38

You won't really need the DMD to get in any hits, but if I put 'Pass until dead' people would make comments about, 'why pass when you can hit?' and if I didn't put anything at all for it going against Duster, I'd get, 'my DMD lasted until Duster and I got a couple hits in.' It's really there as a just in case for people who prefer to have every potential move outlined.

Gráinne

wrote on 2021-03-07 18:15:32

Numak, I hate to tell you (actually, no, I really don't) but not many strats even here work 100%. And don't get me started on the reliability of the one-off attempts on Wowhead.

There are many strats that fail to a specific crit. That is a 5% chance. There is a significant number of strats on this site that fail to two specific crits. That is a 1 in 400 chance, so 99.75% as an upper bound, since there are other less likely ways for them to fail. But most people never try to understand strats, and just copy what others' work, and never ever notice. Until one day that low chance happens to them. Or, even more often, fail to follow directions and don't realise it.

When we get to some of the challenge strats in the Family achievements, of course, the reliability can get much lower.

When someone come along and points out WHY a specific strat can fail, that can be helpful, since people can then find improvements. When someone posts a useless "didn't work" comment, I just assume the mistake was on their end - PEBCAK.

Sig wrote on 2021-03-22 11:05:27

Strat failed cause my Rotten Little Helper jsut died several times even before I could have passed the first enemy's pet.

Gráinne

wrote on 2021-03-22 11:40:44

OK, at least that's something to go on, but we already know that the RLH can die to Slugger. It won't be common, but maybe 10% of cases. But if that happens, a single Metal Fist from DMD should finish Slugger off, and then you carry on normally.

Sig, in your case, please specify what else deviated from expectations.

lunerenne wrote on 2021-03-24 21:05:24

The first time I tried this it failed because my Rotten Little Helper got killed well before Slugger died, then my draenei micro defender didn't finish it off with a metal fist, it took like 3 rounds and I was in my mech death round before it finally died because Slugger did a burrow on me, but my second attempt worked fine. So yeah, random low-chance Slugger crits reduce the efficacy. But still a good strat.

Gráinne

wrote on 2021-03-24 21:52:27

OK, Lunerenne, I see how those numbers can happen, leaving RLH with three rounds of finishing Slugger. Slugger's Burrow has a damage range specified as 488-732. Disco has a post on how damage range probabilities work here: http://pvppetbattles.com/2014/11/01/burn-damage-distribution/

IF Burrow hits high AND crits, it could do up to 1098 damage. That could kill RLH in R4, before it could get off its Club in that round, leaving Slugger with up to 625 HP, which would take 3 rounds for the DMD to kill, and, especially with bad luck on Runehoof's Headbutt, lead to a failure.

I suppose we could work out a probability tree for the actual numbers, but it's late.

I see a couple of high Burrows in DragonsAfterDark's logs below, but they all lead to the RLH getting its Club off in R4, even if it dies in R5, so I'll settle for saying that you need a pretty high (how high is that? 20% chance?) hit from Burrow, COMBINED WITH a Crit (5% chance) to cause a fail, so I'm guessing that's 1%-3% chance.

Mutanis

wrote on 2021-03-25 06:07:16

I was trying to calculate the winrate of my Mighty Minion of Maldraxxus strategy and have done a big mistake because abilities with damage variance working differently than I thought. So I made some testing and found out that the critical dmg/1.5 is between avarage dmg ... and max damage --> 610 - 732. If Burrow hits critical it does at least 915 dmg. On top of that high rolls are more likely. I tested it with Savage Talon (241...447) and here are my results: https://imgur.com/a/AN1EkXc

Gráinne

wrote on 2021-03-25 08:19:39

(Does a quick look. Reacts ...) YEEK!! ... oh, that's a graph of the Crits only. Phew. :)

Re-reading Disco's post, Celestalon never specified when the crit is determined, and I don't see Disco incorporating crits in his Mathematica script.

And yes, crits being one-tailed does shift the probability. Nice catch. Thanks!

i have tried other strats (just to switch it up) and i always end up coming back to this one... for me it is been the most reliable of the strats with the pets i have (and i do have plenty of lvl 25 rare pets) maybe those having problems have a slower internet speed, or maybe their pet isn't 25 and rare, or maybe they missed a step? not sure where that is... but for those complaining... i say this ... if you cannot find a strat that works... make one that does and share it. don't just pout about what don't work for you... do something to fix the problem. the site isn't costing you anything, the least you can do is participate to make it better.

My RLH won't make it through Slugger, and my DMD will sometimes kill Runehoof. Either way it works, but more often than not it doesn't follow the guide.

(OP) DragonsAfterDark

wrote on 2021-02-16 19:14:26

Can you provide me with some logs of this? Here are 10 of mine:

https://imgur.com/a/Jr7E5TT

10 / 10 times DMD kills Runehoof
8 / 10 times RLH makes it to Runehoof
1 / 10 times RLH dies at the same time as Slugger
1 / 10 times Slugger kills RLH

If your pets are 25 and rare, it is mathematically impossible for DMD not to kill Runehoof with Ion Cannon.

This also means that 8/10 times the strat goes exactly as indicated above. And if I'd cared to finish the battle and not forfeit at Duster, it would have been 10/10 wins.

maidenchina

wrote on 2021-03-05 18:38:35

By your own admission you said RLH died to Slugger. I said it works, but more often for me it doesn't follow the guide. I've yet to encounter a time Slugger didn't crit.

Once it died and the DMD had to come in and clean up. I didn't say it never happened. Your log still doesn't show how "DMD will sometimes kill Runehoof". DMD has to get one move on Runehoof: Ion Cannon. And your "more often than not it doesn't follow the guide" is inaccurate because as my ten logs compared to your one proves that 8/10 times, (and arguably 9/10 because RLH doesn't have to get any hits on Runehoof to make the strat work), it is 100% accurate to the guide. That's 80%, which means more often than not it does follow the guide.

I get it, you don't like it when your strat isn't as good as someone elses... You're extremely rude, and not very open to criticism, which isn't a good trait to have on this site. You're not focusing on the actual point of my comment, which was that the strategy works, but doesn't exactly follow the guide.

I'm open to criticism when people show evidence; more often than not they don't. I have in no way been rude, I simply asked a question and provided evidence to back up my point. I have not called you names, attacked you, or done anything that could be construed as rude. I did address the point of your comment with the percentages.

I openly admit that there are plenty of strategies on fights that are better than the ones I've come up with. I am not the end-all-be-all to strategy creation. If you have any issues with my comments, you're more than welcome to take them up with Aranesh.

is dragons causing trouble? is it time for an intervention again?

Yeah, there's an easy way to fix this, I'll just avoid all your strategies and we won't have to converse ever again.

Dude you're being -really- aggressive.

It should be noted that in rare scenarios your whelping can die on Duster. It mostly boils down to how many of Moth Balls hit.

I don't believe so. Even if *every* Moth Ball hits, and you get 2 rounds of it plus a Peck, that's still only 1260. So you'd need every single Moth Ball to hit PLUS 3 of them would need to be a crit, or you'd need every Moth Ball to hit, plus one of them crit and Peck would need to crit. That would be for the 1400 hp Nexus Whelp, and the odds are so incredibly long for that happening. (edited)

I have been using this strat and the only time it didn't go as planned some just some random RNG during the first part. I have never had one issue with fighting the second and third pets.

Wraigrath wrote on 2021-02-05 01:02:24

I ran this guy with Iron Starlette Wind up - Super charge - Wind up, kills slugger, do damage unless Runehoof kills, Swapped to Runeforged Servitor Wind up - Call Lightning then Nexus Whelp to kill. GG. (alternate since I don't have Rotten or Micro.)

Great strat, even with ridiculously unlucky RNG (being crit, Mothballs hitting 100% of the time) it works.

Thordallim wrote on 2021-01-28 16:58:37

Didnt work, tried 5 times in a row first 2 pets didnt live long enough. Switched team.

You're going to need to provide some logs to prove this, please.

Gets around Runehoof rng, thanks, well done!

OoOo wrote on 2020-12-05 13:09:53

Without any crits, both Rotten Helper and Draenei Micro Defender die before the guide says. It still works just fine as the Nexus Whelpling is an absolute beast, but these two absolutely do not survive as long as the guide suggests.

I do this every time the WQ is up, and yes they do. You might never get a hit with Club on Runehoof, and that's fine. That line is just there in case you *can* get hits. Ion Cannon will always finish Runehoof off no matter what.

You also don't have to get any metal Fist hits with the DMD on Duster, it's there, again, just in case you survive long enough for it to happen. Nexus Whelp is more than able to finish Duster off.

If I tried to put every single iteration into the body of a strategy, some of them would be novelettes. You're allowed to do *some* thinking on your own.

HL wrote on 2020-12-13 18:30:36

I can confirm that Rotten Little Helper never survives Slugger. Strat still works just fine, but RLH doesn't make it to Runehoof.

And here is a log proving that 'never' is a little inaccurate:

Is it possible for RLH to die before SLugger, sure. Crits happen. However, minus those crits you're likely to see Runehoof with RLH

i have had Rotten Little Helper survive... so i agree.... "never" is inaccurate. I have found in life the words "always" and "never" are not accurate many times as there are many variables in life itself.

The first time I tried this strat my Micro Defender got stunned by Runehoof then the tdscript swapped pets and I lost the match. I'm not sure how that happened, as every time I tried to recreate it to get the aura ID, Resilient would pop up, but on the offchance it ever happens again, here's a suggested edit for the tdscript to account for that:

ability(Greench's Gift:1076)
ability(Booby-Trapped Presents:1080)
ability(Ion Cannon:209) [enemy(#2).active]
standby [self.aura(Stunned:927).exists]
ability(Arcane Storm:589)
ability(Mana Surge:489)
ability(#1)
change(next)

You can just add standby above change(next) like this:

standby
change(next)

And it'll prevent the swap without needing aura IDs :)

This happened to me just now. I've done this fight several times but this time my Micro Defender got stunned, Nexus swapped in and I lost because I wasn't paying attention - just hitting A over and over. I've updated the script to the most recent so I'm betting it will be all good now. Thanks!
