Make sure you have some other pet, than a beast and in the best case a pet with some elemental attacks. Very easy strategy. Just take a beast with damage reduction and a nice beast attack - You will avoid the stampede and will take nearly 0 damage. Make sure you have some other pet, than a beast and in the best case a pet with some elemental attacks.
You could also bring a level pet in combination with a strong elemental pet or go for a hare/rabbit.

Saying you only need this pet is not quite accurate. Because the first Cockroach applies Greater Apocalypse, it will still hit even when this particular Cockroach is dead. If you have a Cockroach on the backline, they will, of course, overwrite the Greater Apocalypse with regular Apocalypse, which does NOT hit when the user is dead. However, if you don't have a Cockroach on the backline, your EPW will die when Greater Apocalypse falls.

So, you can either let the EPW die, and hope you have something that'll finish the fight on your backline. Or, you can swap a pet in on the round Greater Apocalypse falls to eat the damage then bring your EPW back in.

so for this, i used an Emerald Protowhelp (P/S) same as above. was amusing i had 2 cockroaches during the fight and the 2nd cockroach refreshed the Greater Apocalypse 'debuff' so the fight lasted longer than the initial 20 rounds. thought id mention this as im currently in the middle of said fight.
