Substitutes:

Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

You can also use a Kneebiter with Black Claw and Hunting Party.
Strategy kindly suggested by Vuruba, thanks!

Low XP
This strategy has been built to be as fast as possible.
The strategy takes a while. Sit back, get yourself a warm drink and relax the scenery.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
TD Script
The strategy offers a TD script that can be used with the TD Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
This strategy has been flagged as problematic and that makes Shenk sad.
This table shows the level increase for completing the fight with level 25 pets and one carry pet.
Partial level experience is not included in the calculation.

Sometimes my Zandalari Anklerender would die but I wanted to preserve my others for a the next fight, so I put Ashmaw Cubs (1 1 1) in 2 and 3 with the following script:

ability(429)

if [self(#2).active]

First time it did not work, but second time I had just enough hp left over to go another 'round' of the hunting party for it to work.

The given strategy didn't work as described. My Anklerender died with Splint still at more than 50% health.

This may or may not be worth leveling a pet even during pet week with safari hat on. I got a little over 1k exp. Used the strat below from Kestis but did a little rearranging as that strat didn't work for me.

Put Thundertail Flapper in slot 1 with Beaver Dam as third skill, other 2 don't matter. Round 1: Beaver Dam, Round 2: switch to level pet, Round 3:Direbeak Hatchiling, Round 4: Iron Skin, Round 5: Falcasaur Swarm 6: Predatory Strike. 7: Swap to Thundertail again and use Beaver Dam. This will allow your ironskin to come off CD and also to swap back to your Direbeak witout getting attacked. 8: Swap back to your Direbeak 9: Iron Skin 10: Falcasaur Swarm 11: Preditory Strike

Thank you, Tie, for the leveling strategy. As you say, very little XP, but I still enjoy working on leveling during every battle that I can. I couldn't get the Anklerender strat to work for me, probably as I was trying to level a couple of pets while doing it, so I tried your Flapper/Direbeak with a L2 S/S Anklerender (got to get him up to fighting level). It worked perfectly. Thanks, everyone!

I did it with Ikky (1, 1, 1), Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling (1, 1, 1), and a level pet (Was level 7, but with this strat a level 1 would work fine). Used Black Claw and then Flock on Ikky. After he died I used Breath and then Explode for the Dragonling. Boop. Easy XP.

I do use this to level my lvl 1 pets, it jumps from 1 to 6 using Safari Hat when Battle Pet Event is on, and as lvl 6 i can level on some battles that i could not use a lvl 1. :)

This is one fight that responds very well to falcosaurs. I have never needed more than 2; Falcosaur Swam > Predatory Strike IFalcosaur dies, bring in next and repeat.) Third Falcosaur never used but available in case of really bad RNG.

Changed strategy slightly to allow for safe leveling of any pet. Put Thundertail Flapper in slot 1 with Beaver Dam as third skill, other 2 don't matter. Round 1: Beaver Dam, Round 2: switch to level pet, Round 3:Switch to Anklerender, Round 4: Black Claw, Round 5: Huntung Party... wIn and get XP!

Seeing that the underlying idea was "a wall that blocks two attacks", I dropped Mr. Bigglesworth in with Ice Barrier (x-1-x)/ He dropped the wall, took the DoT (a Frost DK in pet form is never going to be greased lightning, eh?), and the levelling pet got away clean. "Beaver Dam" has equivalents in "Ice Barrier", "Prismatic Barrier", and "Illusionary Barrier", as Bigglesworth isn't exactly ubiquitous.

I didn't think it particularly worth it for 374 XP (not pet week, no hat, no treats), but you do you.

Also, because I'm not always sure how all the bonuses stack: critter week, hat, both treats: 1301 xp.
