High XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
Level 7+
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

It seems the lvl 7 pet dies from Cyclone every time, Perhaps a lvl 10 would be a better choice

Chasak wrote on 2018-01-18 13:19:02

just don't use an Aquatic pet and lvl7 is fine

Now that the Family Fight trainers are repeatable, they are an excellent way to level up pets. I've come up with a new strategy on this fight that will allow you to use a level 1 pet and not take any damage. If you follow the TD script you can't fail.

Servant of Demidos - 1,1,2; Sister of Temptation - 1,1,1; Any Pet

Rematch string - Bodhi Sunwayver:30SA:11201I1:11101IS:ZL:

Turn 1 - Clean-Up
Turn 2+ - Magic Sword till Itchy dies

Salty Bird comes in
Turn 1 - Clean-Up
Turn 2 - Soul Rush (Salty Bird should die here, if not Magic Sword till dead)
Turn 3+ - Magic Sword

Grommet comes in
Turn 1+ -Magic Sword till Servant of Demidos dies
Bring in leveling pet
Swap to Sister of Temptation
Turn 1+ - Shadow Shock till dead

TD Script:

if [enemy(#1).active]
ability(456) [enemy.round=1]
ability(1085)
endif
if [enemy(#2).active]
ability(456)
ability(752)
ability(1085)
change(#2) [self(#1).dead]
ability(422)
endif
if [enemy(#3).active]
change(#3) [self(#2).active & enemy.round=1]

Regarding Eekwibble's comment on minimum health: I've seen 133 backline damage on Cyclone hits, and 147 per hit on stampede. That would require minimum carry pet health = 3*147 + 5*133 = 1106. By letting the whelp die, you avoid 441 potential damage from stampede, so you only need 665 health, which means you can carry lower level pets.

Blyrmasia wrote on 2017-12-13 14:49:36

For Alternative 1, the strategies for the first 2 opponents work great. However, Level 7 pet and the strategy vs. Grommet are not solid - often Chrominius dies to Punch from Grommet.

But, with a very minor change, the strategy becomes 100% reliable:

vs. Grommet
Proto-Strike (this way your Proto-Whelp survives)
Swap in Leveling Pet (takes minor damage from stampede)
Swap in Chrominius
Howl
Surge of Power (guaranteed to kill Grommet since proto-strike did significant damage)

Leveling pet needs to have >900 health due to proc'd cyclone damage + stampede damage. More health recommended if Aquatic or Undead pet due to ability weaknesses.

Rematch string:

Bodhi Sunwayver:30SA:211414F:ZL:2126140:P:889::3::::

The '889' is the minimum hp resultant of the sum of 5 crits by Cyclone and 3 crits by Stampede (a little overkill, you may think, but I got the full 5 by Cyclone today - my lvl15 was not impressed).
5 x 138 = 690
3 x 66 = 198
690 + 198 = 888

Also, I'm sure Blyrmasia's last line meant to say "More health recommended if Aquatic or Dragonkin pet due to ability weaknesses."

Eekwibble

wrote on 2018-05-22 11:26:26

Okay, no, Stampede is a critter ability so Undead is correct. My apologies.

neti1 wrote on 2019-02-14 00:01:21

The problem with Blyrmasia's strategy is that it doesn't work for aquatic carry pets (I lost a level 17). You need the Whelp to die so that the carry pet doesn't get hit after it's swapped in.

A much more flexible strategy is to leave the Whelp in after Proto-Strike, and keep spamming Emerald Bite until Grommet is down to just above the max crit damage for Bite. Then pass till the Whelp dies.
That way you can use a lower health carry pet, and Grommet's health is too low to do much damage to Chrominus.

neti1 wrote on 2019-02-14 00:12:11

In fact, Chrominus takes less damage with my change to the strategy, as the extra damage done by the Whelp after Proto-Strike means Howl is usually not needed. Grommet goes down in a single round - i.e. one less hit on Chrominus,

Level 1+ - Strategy (actually did it with a Water Type ;) )

Teroclaw Hatchling 2/2/2, Level Pet 1+, Hyjal Wisp 2/2/1

Turn 1 Alpha Strike
Turn 2 Alpha Strike
Turn 3 Dodge
Turn 4 Alpha Strike
Turn 5 Alpha Strike - Itchy dies
Salty Bird comes in
Turn 1 Swap to your Hyjal Wisp
Turn 2 Sear
Turn 3 Wish
Turn 4-7 Arcane Blast (Salty usually dies here)
Turn 5 Sear/Arcane Blast if Salty's not dead else
Grommet comes in
Turn 1-X Arcane Blast til Wisp dies (Watch out for crits and pass if Grommet's nearly dead)
Tun X+1 Swap to your Level Pet
Turn X+2 Swap back to your Hatchling
Turns X+3+ Alpha until Grommet dies

As usual RNG might alter stuff but it's quite robust

I wanted to share a two-leveling pet strategy with folks here. I know that I got this from someone else; unfortunately, I don't remember from whom or where. If anyone recognizes it, let me know and I'll happily give credit where credit is due.

Leveling pet in 1st slot, Anubisath Idol (1/1/1) in 2nd, leveling pet in 3rd. Leveling pets will take up to a couple of hundred in damage, so plan accordingly. I've found that L9 and up works well.

1. Attack with first leveling pet (required as 1st slot)
2. Swap to Idol
3. Deflection
4. Sandstorm
5. Swap to 2nd leveling pet
6. Swap back to Idol

Rest of fight:
Deflect when Whirlpool has 1 round left
Sandstorm on cooldown
Crush as filler

As always, there is a chance of failure, but I've had this work more often than not. The leveling pets get some nice XP, and it's an easy strategy to use.

I wrote this script for two leveling pets + Anubisath Idol, it works 99% of the time, avoid using stuns on the leveling pets, Bodhi will swap out pets and mess up the rotation...

ability(#1) [enemy.round = 1]

change(#2) [ enemy(Itchy).active & enemy.round <= 2 ]
if [enemy(#3).active & weather(Sandstorm:454).duration=4]
change(#3) [!self(#3).played & !self(#3).level.max]
endif

change(#2) [ enemy(Grommet).active]

if [ enemy(Itchy:1800).active]
ability(Deflection:490) [self.aura(Whirlpool).exists & self.aura(Whirlpool:513).duration<=1]
ability(Sandstorm) [ !weather(Sandstorm)]
ability(Crush)
endif

if [enemy(Salty Bird:1801).active]
ability(Deflection:490) [enemy.round >= 1]
ability(Sandstorm)
ability(Crush)
endif

if [enemy(Grommet:1799).active]
ability(Deflection:490)
ability(Sandstorm) [ !weather(Sandstorm)]
ability(Crush)
endif

EDIT: Working perfectly. Thank you for the script.

Only the 1st crush command and switch to leveling pet works and after that it stops.

EDIT: Nevermind just realized you need a leveling pet in 1st slot. Going to try it again now.

TD Script:

change(#3) [self(#2).active]
ability(Proto-Strike) [self.aura(Whirlpool).duration=1]
ability(Ancient Blessing) [self.aura(Cyclone).duration=5]
ability(Howl) [enemy.hp<1362]
ability(Surge of Power) [enemy.aura(Howl).exists]
ability(#1)
change(#2)

Hobbyhorse wrote on 2017-06-22 05:51:12

I think the previous script has a week point.
Changed it, just in case.

change(#3) [self(#2).active]
ability(Proto-Strike) [self.aura(Whirlpool).duration=1]
ability(Ancient Blessing) [self.aura(Cyclone).duration=5]
ability(Howl) [enemy(#3).hp<1362]
ability(Surge of Power) [enemy.aura(Howl).exists]
ability(#1)
change(#2)

Needs a quit line if the leveling pet dies from the cyclone thing killing it

change(#3) [self(#2).active]
quit [ self(#2).dead ]
ability(Proto-Strike) [self.aura(Whirlpool).duration=1]
ability(Ancient Blessing) [self.aura(Cyclone).duration=5]
ability(Howl) [enemy(#3).hp<1362]
ability(Surge of Power) [enemy.aura(Howl).exists]
ability(#1)
change(#2)

worked great, thank you all 3 for the script and the original strat inventor!

Not 100% reliable because of the strike count and damage variances of Slicing Wind and Clean-Up respectively, but, a fun strat when it works because big numbers and moveset variety make me happy:

Gilnean Raven 2-1-2 (B/B)
Stonegrinder 1-2-1
Lvl3+ Leveling Pet

Turn 1. Alpha Strike
2. Darkflame
3. Nevermore
4+. Alpha Strike until Itchy dies
Salty Bird comes in
1. Swap to Stonegrinder
2. Supercharge
3. Clean-Up
Salty Bird dies (if not; 1 x Screeching Gears should do it, if it doesn't; reset)
Grommet comes in
1. Screeching Gears
2. Pass (turns 1 and 2 will be reversed if you needed to use Gears to kill Salty)
3. Supercharge
4. Clean-Up
5. Screeching Gears
Stonegrinder activates Failsafe
6. Swap in Leveling Pet
7. Swap to Gilnean Raven
Raven dies
Bring back Stonegrinder
9. Clean-Up

Doesn't work, too much RNG. Done 3 fights and lost all with a lvl 22 Unborn Val'kyr as levelling pet...

Unbear wrote on 2017-08-17 17:35:36

I've done this over ten times for 100% success rate - a couple of times my proto-whelp could have solo'd the fight if I chose not to bring in my levelling pet.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-08-17 21:26:06

I've used this strategy for months @ 100% success rate on multiple toons. My Emerald Proto-Whelp is a P/P.

Donsta wrote on 2017-09-10 17:41:28

My P/S Emerald Proto-Whelp can solo this fight.

Panchalli wrote on 2017-09-12 16:25:45

Not having a lot of luck with this. Level 7+ very wrong. Can't do it with a level 10+ most of the time. Dies to the windstorm in the back row.

Fadaar wrote on 2017-09-12 13:14:16

Emerald Proto Whelp completely solo'd it, but with different moveset than listed. Running 2/2/2 -- keep Emerald Presence up at all times, Emerald Dream when <50% health, Emerald Bite otherwise.

MolsonofAle wrote on 2017-09-11 09:04:00

Used this strat a few times. Could probably solo with the proto whelp with ancient blessing on cd. Haven't tried it though.
But its a great strat for getting those last couple levels on a pet.
Thanks for posting. Love this sight. Thanks so much for doing this.

Servant of Demidos (1/1/2), any level 1+, and Court Scribe (1/1/2) FTW.

Start off Itchy with Soulrush, followed by Magic Sword until Itchy dies. Try to time it so that Soulrush only has 1 turn left on CD when Salty Bird comes in. When Salty Bird comes in, immediately use Clean-Up, followed by Soulrush, then do a quick victory dance after killing Salty Bird without taking ANY damage. Swap to your level pet when Grommet comes in, then swap to Court Scribe. Curse of Doom, Arcane Blast, Consume Magic, then Arcane Blast until it's over... :) If something goes wrong with the Court Scribe, you still have a relatively healthy Servant of Demidos hanging about to pick up the slack.

Beefriedrice wrote on 2017-01-05 16:07:54

This worked perfectly for me. Especially the victory dance, I swear salty birds cyclone hits freakishly often.

Brawler wrote on 2017-01-18 22:18:27

Great idea with the Demidos.

However, make a H/H Iron Starlette your 2nd pet.
Wind-up, wind-up, explode on the murloc for an easy win and bringing your level 1 pet in for free.

Dyna wrote on 2017-02-28 03:59:54

Super solid strat! Worked like a charm

@patf0rd wrote on 2017-05-29 14:34:44

First try was promising, more trys were showing some problems, so it's a nice and fast team, but not that solid ;-) Soul-Rush stuns cause enemy pet swaps and then things are getting weird. And sometimes Clean-Up does very low damage so Soul Rush won't necessarily kill Salty Bird and maybe apply a stun etc.

Daineycakes wrote on 2017-09-10 05:47:57

This worked beautifully after spending an embarrassingly long trying to figure out Sharptalon Hatchling's +2 magic team quest!
