High XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
Level 2+
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!

I have a tdScript for this that seems to work! I don't quite know what i'm doing so there's probably a better way of doing it, seem's to work fine though :)

I found that it didnt allow for a finishing move when on last pet used ability's on cooldown. I used Missile as a filler. Here is a modified and simplified version of the above script to do the same as above with the needed filler

use(Pump:297) [enemy.round~1,3,4]
use(Cleansing Rain:230) [enemy.round=2]
use(Water Jet:118)
change(#2) [self(#1).dead & !self(#3).active]
change(#3) [self(#2).active]
use(Ion Cannon:209) [enemy.hp<=1098]
use(Shock and Awe:646)
use(Missile:777) (edited)

I believe the team, script and strategy were from before Mothallus was changed to a critter (used to be a beast) - so they probably ddidn't need a filler in the prior script as Shock and Awe and Ion Cannon would both have been doing 50% more damage.

Thanks for your update though; worked a treat.

Merchron wrote on 2020-10-02 18:54:15

This is the script as described above. It does not take into account crits like one-shotting Toothbreaker as I did once.

change(#2) [self(#1).dead & !self(#2).played]
change(#3) [self(#2).active]
ability(Pump) [enemy.round=1]
ability(Pump) [enemy.round=3 & enemy(#2).active]

With the changes in 9.1 where Brood of Mothallus is now a critter, Ion Cannon is less effective. Combine that with the possibility of a crit for his Consume ability, and you shouldn't use Ion Cannon till his HP is 394 or less. That in turn means you might need a Missile after the Shock and Awe to guarantee the kill. Other than that, this strategy is still rock solid post 9.1

Another thought, I may well investigate trying this with a Microbot XD in the last slot for a "Supercharge" "Ion-Cannon" 1-2 kill. Watch this space for details. (edited)

Gráinne

wrote on 2021-06-30 07:35:21

I confirm Mothallus is now a Critter (bizarre change).

However, Ion Cannon hits for 732, and I did not see an Elite buff on Brood (I should have checked more closely before finishing!) so I didn't need an extra Missile. My Ion Cannon did hit for the full 732 and my Shock and Awe for the full 439.

DavidG

wrote on 2021-07-04 04:48:40

Elite buff isn't the problem. Consume is, which he casts close to every other round. Specifically, the risk is that he casts Consume on the same round that you cast Ion Cannon, and it crits. This can heal him for base 180 HP, plus 50% for the crit, plus 25% for the debuff Acidic Goo places on your pet. That lot can add up to a total heal of 337, before you get to hit him with the Ion Cannon.

That said, I just tried it with a Microbot XD (*,2,2) in the bottom slot, and got a reliable kill with Supercharge / Ion Cannon. I'll be switching to that strat for this one for now.

As of 12/28/2020, Sunlight (from Siren) hits backline pets for 248 (this was with an Elemental leveling pet, so no +/- damage). The leveling pet probably needs to be level 3+.

Since above strat DOES NOT work at all, I went, as mentioned in comments, with Anubisath Idol, did as follows:
1. Aqua Strider - pump - cleansing rain - pump, Strider dies, swap to >>>
2. carry pet, swap to >>>
3. Anubisath Idol - sandstorm (and then on cd) - deflection (when Burrow) - crush as filler. Took ages yet worked perfectly ;) (edited)

Gráinne

wrote on 2019-08-17 08:46:56

There are several variants of this strat, using similar but not identical moves. I have been using one such variant since Mists. In fact, when testing I kept doing it wrong because I am so used to doing it my way.

The strat as written here, and using an Aqua Strider, works, unless Siren's Solar Beam crits (5% chance), or unless the Pump into Toothbreaker crits. The Pump crit has happened to me occasionally. You can still win in that case, but I always have to wake up and think where I am instead of following the strat when it happens.

HOWEVER, as written here today, I see two points of failure:

1. Siren's Sunlight does 165 damage to the backline pets, excluding any family effects. Most Level 1 pets don't have 165 health, and certainly not 248 to be safe against a crit. I suggest a health limit on the levelling pet. I see Remte noted this in the comments long ago.

2. Both of Nishi's first two pets have speeds of 280. The Skimmer/Strider/whatever in the first slot needs speed >280. Some of the possible substitutes offered - Fishy, Sea Pony, P/P Freshwater Crawler - don't. I suggest a speed requirement > 280 in the Slot 1 pet.

Gráinne

wrote on 2019-08-17 08:50:58

Now, about your "Aqua Strider - pump - cleansing rain - pump, Strider dies". This will happen only if Siren's Solar Beam crits, which as I said is a 5% chance. When you say the strat doesn't work at all, I have to wonder how many times you tried, and whether you looked at your pet battle chat window to see why. It's possible to get unlucky a couple of times in a row, but not common, and always worth figuring out what happened.

P.S. Just as an aftrthought, I'm pretty sure "Aqua Strider - pump - cleansing rain - pump, Strider dies" can't happen even with a crit from Solar Beam, though I'm not in-game to check now. (edited)

Shenk

wrote on 2019-08-17 09:58:22

sooo... minimum health is 166; 110 as a critter. i don't go for the 248 in case of a crit since this is rare enough to be tolerable in my opinion. (level 1 H/H pets meet that requirement)
iirc not even a sunbeam crit will kill the strider. i think the few times mine died early was against toothbreaker. and it won't matter that much because toothbreaker runs out of steam very fast anyway (edited)

@Gráinne - you've made a bunch of posts &/or replies here with comments like, "yeah, but..." & "see my comment below," and - worst of all - "i've always done it this way" ("i've been using [this] Mists" was your exact wording) - but you're failing to address/acknowledge the fact that Blizzard has overhauled ALL pet battles TWICE since BfA launched - instead of making excuses about how good your strat really is, maybe it's time to accept that you need a new one. THIS one doesn't work most of the time now.

Gráinne

wrote on 2020-03-16 18:51:07

"Blizzard has overhauled ALL pet battles TWICE since BfA launched"? What?? No they didn't. When did they overhaul this one? I'm not even sure what you mean. How did they change it? What stats did they change in this battle? What ability effects did they change in this battle? They nerfed BRD twice; is that what you're thinking of?

When you fail a battle, all the information that exists about a battle is in your log after completing it, so my basic answer to everything is: READ. YOUR. LOG. Other people can read their logs for you, and interpret them for you, but you will never learn that way. You will never figure out whether the battle went bad because of RNG built into the game, like crits, hit chances, damage ranges, or because of breeds and abilities. Only the log will tell you that.

I went back to last August and pulled my tests of this strat. I paste the log from one test below. It has all the information you could ever want.

Sunlight now appears to hit your backline pets and will kill your level pet if it's a lvl1.

Gráinne

wrote on 2019-10-20 22:17:47

I covered this in my comment below. The Sunlight hits for 165, which will kill most level 1 pets, other than Magic or Mechanicals. That's why the curators added the HP > 165 requirements.

It also kills any up to and including level 3

Gráinne

wrote on 2020-03-16 18:22:59

No. It kills any with health less than 166, regardless of level, except Magic or Mechanical. However, there are some level 1s with HP>165, including all H/Hs with basehealth>8, like Spawn of Garalon or Winter Rageling. They'll survive fine, even at level 1, barring crits. There are some level 3s with HP<166. It will kill those, except Critters, Magic, Mechanical.

That's why Shenk specifically added the HP>165 condition. Level is only a guideline here.

Just swap Aqua Strider for Mirror Strider (H/S)

If using Fishy (or another adequate replacement to Eternal Strider that is slower than 280--NOTE: Untested with pets other than Fishy!), the order I use is this:

- Cleansing Rain
- Pump (charging)
- Pump (if Siren dies here, skip the next step)
- Water Jet (Siren dies, Toothbreaker enters)
- Pump (charging)
- Cleansing Rain
- Pass (or Water Jet...whatever, it won't hit)
- Pump
- Water Jet til Fishy dies (Toothbreaker should die, and you should get some damage on Brood of Mothallus)
- Bring in leveing pet, and immediately swap to Darkmoon Tonk:
- Shock and Awe
- Ion Cannon

As Hermy mentioned, for this strat to work exactly as written you need to have a 1st pet faster then 280speed. If not Toothbreaker will cast Sons of the Root before you can get off the Pump and it will be blocked. Most striders are inherently that way but I tried to use a P/P Freshwater Crawler for added power and it messed up.

Perfect!! This is what i needed - the main strat was failing for me repeatedly (ate up 11mins of a pet xp buff!), until i swapped the Aqua Strider for the Eternal Strider. Boom! First try!!

Lucas wrote on 2019-01-15 14:07:50

Well, Anub can solo this, with 2 leveling pets

Shiholude74 wrote on 2019-02-09 23:38:52

I use Anub in other strats, and I personally hate Anub. God forbid someone offers another strategy then yours... If only there was an alternative stragey feature for this site!! Oh wait...

Care to share the strategy for that then Lucas?

It's not hard to find. From Auraia on Wowhead

Anubisath (Crush, Sandstorm, Deflection) + two leveling pets.
First sandstorm, next crush, then deflection (solar beam). Crush til deflection off CD, use again. Toothbreaker submerges ASAP, so swap in low levels first two turns (sandstorm protects them). Then roll on with crushing. For Brood, Crush Crush Deflect, repeat.

I'm pretty sure I used some variation of this myself back in Mists, before I had All The Pets.

I do see an Anub and Tonk strat available here, which is probably similar, just using the Tonk to speed up the third kill.

Allowing people to enter their own strats has been a huge success for Xu-Fu's, but it has discouraged people from just leaving their ideas in the comments, which was always one of the site's strengths. It could be done without committing to a sign-up and taking a couple of hours to find their way around the editor and lay out a strat properly.

Everyone and their mother knows about the Anubisath Idol strat. Its been the go-to since MoP was current. I love this site because it often offers faster alternatives. Total XP gained is limited so leveling 2 pets or 1, it doesn't really matter since your net gain in pet XP is the same. Many people have their sights set on getting a specific pet to max level as fast as possible, and alternative 2 pet strats can make this fight go a lot faster since the Idol strat is tedious and long.

DavidG wrote on 2018-03-11 21:53:39

I very strongly recommend skipping the Aqua Strider, since it's S/S - that means low health and low power. This strategy and the third alternative are much easier with a P/S Eternal Strider.

This strategy was uploaded when it was easier to keep track on pets with a single breed.

DavidG's right though. Eternal Striders are found north-west of Farmer Nishi in the Vale just over the mountain. It takes 35 seconds to reach them from Nishi on a 310% flyer, I timed it.
I'm not sure if you're the same David G that posted the work-arounds below for 1-shotting the elementals but I've written a TDScript that includes them. I'll post it on the alt 3 page tomorrow as I've not tested it fully yet and I've already defeated Nishi today.

Oh maaaaaaan. I've only just remembered this. My WoW install got corrupted and I had to reinstall the entire game. I didn't trust the back-up files either so did the whole thing from scratch. Lost all my ~150 pet teams and scripts. That script took ages to get right as well. >.<
I'll try and get it rewritten and posted today.

I've used an H/S Mirror Strider for 2-3 months now.. before that I used what ever pet was suggested for pet slot 1. And it worked 9/10 times. Now it works 10/10 times

PS Eternal Strider and D/moon Zep w/ Explode is still faster, though. =P
