I use a S/S Aqua Strider, and I find that I can sneak in a second cleansing rain before killing the first enemy, then swap the order of cleansing rain and the second prep-pump on enemy 2 (essentially doing cleansing rain on cooldown). This has saved me from death by crazy crits a few times, or at least given me a little more peace of mind.

I was able to get it easily with a Darkmoon Tonk in the last slot:
Eternal Strider (1 2 2), Leveling pet 2+), Darkmoon Tonk (1 1 2)
When Strider dies, bring in Tonk:
Shock and Awe > Ion Cannon
Toothbreaker dies. If Toothbreaker doesn't die and is low, just missile to finish him off. Worked great each time I tried it.

A number of times the darkmoon Zepp comes out and explodes - but it's the second enemy pet. I am using the script - I'm guessing the DZ should be exploding on the 3rd pet but is somehow not seeing the 2nd one? EDIT just want to say its happened more than once but not every time. (editiert)

October 17 2020 - worked well on Prepatch. Keep in mind that I'm using a P/S Eternal Strider (273 Power 305 Speed) because the usual high speed striders just deal too little damage to make the fight smooth.

I had the same issue the first time around using the Aqua Strider with my DM Zep. Unfortunately i already started the redo so the log was gone when i went to look what happened. Im guessing it was crit related as my AS failed to kill the first 2 pets.
However it worked fine the 2nd time. As well as the first time i originally used it.
If i can get it to happen again i will test a script with a line to forfeit battle if AS dies before her 2nd pet dies.

You really, really have to give some detail for your comment to be more useful than random noise.

I suspect that your substitute for the Strider had speed less than 280. If you give the useful information about exactly what species and breed you used, I could be sure.

tested the strat (again... it's not the first time i'm here) with all the substitutes and couldn't find a reason for it to fail. of course you'd have to play some turns different when you're pet is slower than 280 speed but since i've added a speed requirement now there really is no reason for anyone to blame the strat for not working. if it still doesn't work now it's your fault :P (editiert)

If you get hit by some unlucky crits by Toothbreaker, the strat can fail and the Aqua Strider dies too early. It just happened to me. This is rare though. This is always, always my goto strat.

the original TD script isn't working, i have to take over manually. the biggest issue is that the strider will cast the second Pump after Toothbreaker uses Sons of the Root (uses it as first attack). i know i have used this before, but something is off now.

I've written a script that should take into account any eventuality on this fight regarding Pump crits as posted on the alt 2 page by David G.
It should be noted that I've changed the Zeppelin's abilities to Flyby and Thunderbolt as Missile has the potential to kill Mothalus and ruin the strat and I find Decoy to be a bit pointless since Mothalus is faster than the Zep. Decoy and Missile work under a lot of parameters but not all, whereas Thunderbolt and Flyby work 100% of the time if you use them right.
Line 9 has a provision for using Explode if Mothalus' hp is below 349 and Consume is usable. This is to account for a potential Consume crit.
The provision on line 11 prevents a Thunderbolt crit from ending the battle.

I use a P/S Eternal Strider for this and so should you. You can find them a very short flight over the mountain ridge to the north-west.

The closing strat is as follows:
Mothalus comes in
1. Pump
2. Cleansing Rain
3. If your strider is alive (one or two of your earlier hits one-shot the Elementals); Pump then Water Jet until Mothalus is at 50%hp then pass until your strider dies then bring in Zep.
If your strider is dead; bring in Zep.
If Mothalus has over 726hp use Thunderbolt. If it's under that but above 618 use Flyby.
Then: if Mothalus has under 619hp and Consume is on cd use Explode. Otherwise use Flyby until its hp is under 619 and Consume is on cd then Explode.

TLDR:
1. Get an Eternal Strider
2. Change Zep's abilities 1 and 3 to Flyby and Thunderbolt
2. Copy and paste the script into Rematch
4. Profit

One small amendment. Put this line between lines 10 and 11.

That will give your Thunderbolt a buff in case strider dies before damaging Mothalus. i.e.: You one-shot Toothbreaker but not Siren and Mothalus crit with Burrow. It's a tiny chance of it happening but it's there.

Script and changes worked great. The only thing I noticed a potential problem was that the script swapped in the level pet but wouldn't swap to the Zep so I had to manually do it. If the point of this fight is to have the level pet gain all XP after the first 2 pets die then there's no need for a swap to the level pet. I'll retest the script another day to see if the same problem occurs and report back.

If your strider dies and you Explode your Zeppelin, you don't need to bring in your level pet before the Zeppelin. As soon as the Zeppelin dies, the level pet will get all the XP anyways.

Use a P/S Eternal Strider. Aqua Striders are the slowest and weakest of the water strider pets. These are wild pets and there are only two breeds so finding the right breed shouldn't take too long.
