The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

Updated 15 June 24 with specific pet in slot 2 and new script

Low XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

This strat no longer works, & the several attempts i spent trying to get it to work actually ended up with me timing out & missing the 22 pet charms being offered to complete it.

soneil wrote on 2022-11-04 12:55:46

It took me 3 attempts to get a win. First 2 times, the first pet didn't do enough damage to kill the opponent as quickly as it was meant to which pretty much messed up the rest of the strat so all my pets died too early.

There are several people who investigate reports of problems with strategies on Xu-Fu's. There are designated Strategy Curators, and other regulars who read comments and are interested in the latest.

In my experience, when people leave a short "It didn't work" note, they usually made a mistake. Maybe they used a pet with the wrong Speed, maybe they didn't do a Pass where it was indicated, sometimes they were even using the team and strat from a completely different battle. :)

Sometimes there genuinely is a problem with the strat. This is where the Curators and others come in, checking the strat for weaknesses, and fixing it or removing it if it can't be fixed.

Since most failure reports with no details are wrong, it's not good to waste people's time investigating them. Instead, help them by providing the information they need.

If the strat failed for you, and you want your comment to be taken seriously:

1. Specify EXACTLY which species and breeds you used.

2. Specify whether you read the strategy from the site and executed it manually, or downloaded and used the tdScript.

3. Specify EXACTLY where the first unexpected thing happened, the first thing that deviated from what the strat predicts. What died too early? What didn't die when it was supposed to? What attack missed?

4. If possible, provide a log. You can see your log in the Pet Battle tab of your chat box. You can pull that out, make it bigger, screenshot it. Better still, you can use the addon Battle Pet Log Keeper from Curseforge, and do /pblk and Save Battle when the battle you want to log is complete.

Almost any strat can fail to a really unlucky string of crits, and some difficult challenge strats like the Family ones may fail more than anyone likes, but the people behind this site do their best to promote well-working strats. Do your part. Provide useful information.

This was a new strat for me - the multiple times in the past i've done this WQ have been with a different strat, so i decided to give this one a go - man, was i on the edge of my seat, hahaha - won it with 142 HP left on my last pet. Key word: won.

It took two tries. In the first try, the void cycloned ate too much of the proto-whelp's health, so was one shot before it could do anything. On the second try, worked as advertised, using one shot from my third pet (Emerald Proto-Whelp) to finish. Loved it !

Ken wrote on 2019-07-06 21:52:06

Did battle 4 times on alts and lost 3 times using script. Very RNG dependent.

Ken wrote on 2019-07-06 22:28:21

Did another 6 times and won each time so guess will stick with it and hope for good RNG.

I used the Wolpertinger as my 2nd. As a Critter it takes less damage from Darkflame, is immune to Counterspell. Sleeping Gas and Headbutt kick Mind Warper butt. I'm not sure it's *better* than the proto-whelp, but it's a fun swap. :)

Failed first try, switched 3rd dragon to Celestial Dragon (HH) as highest health other than Chromius. Worked perfect. Thanks!

nes wrote on 2019-07-07 05:45:16

This strat has failed 3 / 5 attempts for me. It looks dependant on the jelly scoring a critical hit on turn 3 and if it doesnt, the whole thing is broken. If you keep going the jelly dies before the Lesser Twisted Current does and forces you to bring in your 3rd pet since you need the proto for the mind warper. Once you kill the Lesser Twisted Current with your 3rd pet I've tried going back to passing 2 rounds as it says, then bringing in the proto. The warper always goes first and kills my protp before I can even cast ancient blessing. This strat is horrible or breed dependant which it does not say it is. I do NOT recommend anyone use this strat.

(OP) DragonsAfterDark

wrote on 2019-07-07 17:12:48

The whole point in having the third dragonkin is in case you need them against Mind Warper. You didn't need to skip to the third pet for Lesser Twisted Current. The Bleakwater only has one breed, and though the Ironbound has 2, the reason I chose it is because you need HP to stand up against the backline damage.

Yes, this strat is RNG, because you can't control how much the pets get hit on the backline. It's one of the more difficult BFA fights, RNG-wise, and is likely that way with most of the strats if you look at the ratings. You're more than welcome to use a different strat, or create one yourself.

Very nice use of the Jelly here! I had been using a Slithershock for the first pair, but the Jelly is faster and cleaner.

I'm glad it worked well for you :)

Gráinne

wrote on 2018-11-06 00:12:00

It was up again today, so I used it again, on two characters.

This time, the Jelly died with Lesser Twisted Current in one of the two battles, because of bad luck with the Void Cyclone, before taking the first two of Mind Warper's attacks. This is the case mentioned in the Note.

It wasn't a problem. I just had to finish it off with my third pet.

(OP) DragonsAfterDark

wrote on 2018-11-06 01:25:27

Yes, Void Cyclone is incredibly rude xD There seems to be no in-between, sometimes, with it hitting very little, or hitting all three each time. Or, you know, it feels that way.

Hec80 wrote on 2018-11-03 19:10:30

Combined 2 strats above: used Bleakwater Jelly as described 1st, killed first 2 no problem. Jelly died with 2nd opponent: used Direbeak hatching on 3rd- all over - no use of a 3rd pet (Mech. Pandaren Dragon was waiting in the wings but never made it into the fight)

(OP) DragonsAfterDark

wrote on 2018-11-03 19:17:51

I'm glad it worked well for you! Combining strats is sometimes the best way to go.
