Low EXP for pet.
I use P/P Iron Starlette and H/P Dibbler. Happy leveling ;] TD form DyRock#1510. Thanks for that! |

Using a Unholy Ascension pet adds Microbot 8D as a substitute for the Supercharge + Ion Cannon combo (unless Blizzard increases Nightfang's Health above 2900 *g*)

All you need is to use your spells in the order below. Yeti dies every time and both level pets get exp.
It only fails if Nightfang crits. |

This strategy has little chance of failure. Just restart or finish it off with another pet :)

Lurking In The Shadows
Strategy by Lesbanque-Dalaran This adds another possible combination of pets. I was looking for something with excellent odds of winning (aiming for 100%), a TD script, and could still level a pet. The Yeti will die to keep Nightfang from selecting an attack against the leveling pet on the next turn. 1: Tranquil Mechanical Yeti (1,1,1) 2: Leveling Slot 3: Iron Starlette (1,2,1) |

You can also use a Runeforged Servitor and use Call Lightning instead of Toxic Smoke
There is a small chance that you will crit and kill Nightfang a turn early. There is also another chance that you might die to bleed and go through to the mechnical death trait round with to much health (more than 201). In this case either of these happen, you may as well finish the fight, you won't get the xp. |

Sunreaver Micro-Sentry can easily solo the fight, but this can be used to get a bit of XP on another pet. Even a level 1.
9 times out of 10 Decoy won't be necessary. But it provides consistency to the fight by preventing unlucky crits from killing the Sunreaver Micro-Sentry before it can finish the enemy off. |

Dragons is correct, and gave the correct explanation for the XP. A level pet in the first slot that is IMMEDIATELY swapped out without attacking or passsing does not qualify on that basis for XP.
HOWEVER, when one of your pets dies simultaneously with the last opposing pet, any remaining pets in your team come forward to split the XP, and when there is only one level pet, it ofc gets all the XP.
This principle is used in Explode strats, where your second pet chooses to Explode when it will hill the last remaining opposing pet, and itself, leaving your level pet to come in and claim the XP.
It also usually happens in Mega Bite, where Ikky kills the turtle just in time for thr Whirlpool to kill Ikky. Your remaining pet(s) come in and claim the XP.
I just tried this strat 5 times, with a Level 1 in the first slot. In all 5, the Micro-Sentry died at the same time as Nightfang. If you don't have a level pet in the first slot, the Micro-Sentry will usually survive the battle, but with the wasted round, it dies simultaneously. And then your level pet comes in and gets XP. So my level pet got XP on all 5.
I then started with a Level 1, immediately switched to a Stormwing, who softened up Nightfang and died, and then brought in the Micro-Sentry, which finished off Nightfang without taking much damage. The result was that the level pet got no XP.
So, yes, you could use this as a levelling strat, but the reason for the XP is that the level pet comes in at the end, not that it earns it at the start,
