Emerald Proto-Whelp can solo this but you need to change the strat a little, you need to use Emerald Presence and Dream on turns 7 & 8-10 not on turns 8 & 9-11 or you will die. Also I got over 1k xp for a lvl 8 pet so kinda decent.

I had to bump Emerald Presence from 14 to 13, followed by Emerald Dream...and had to do another Emerald Presence/Dream before he died. I was using a P/B Emerald Proto-Whelp. Not sure if that threw off this sequence or if the previous adjustment had an error. I was able to get through the Hungry Icefang, but it took several more steps than described (as of 8/13/2017).

EPW can be replaced with Dream Whelpling or Emerald Whelpling too for this fight, also Emerald Bite works as good as Breath :) I accidentaly forgot to change that skill but still won easily

Alternative 2 does not work. Wolf uses howl by turn 6 or 7, I cant remember which, but you don't have emerald presence and die usually to the next attack.
Instead, use EP when there is only 1 round remaining on the buff.

this is true. however, the strat also then requires you to constantly reapply emerald presence when it reached 1 turn every time until the Hungry Icefang is dead.
