Low XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!

499 is constant and a must for impale, impale can hit harder, but 499 is the minimum (or better worded, the most health Gnasher can have and still have Impale be effective. As the impale will hit before glowing toxin ticks. If Gnasher is at 500 health, the 25% effect doesn't kick in, which is a must for a 4 turn strat. The glowing toxin in game ticks for 119..

When impale hits at the start of turn 4:
357 glowing toxin damage dealt (3 x 119)
Explode damage must make up the difference between (499 for impale + 357 dot damage) 856 and 1997. Seaborne Spore Explode is 560. The other explode pet must do a minimum of 581. Explode hitting harder is fine, however, 499 must be the health at turn 4 start. (If another ability can hit harder than impale, or if one can find an ability to couple with the 119 dot tick. With Impale being a beast ability getting the 50% damage bonus to critters, it's an easy choice, depite Impale making it 'all or nothing')

Thanks for explaining the pet damage formula. Knowledge I did not have before. Using that formula it appears we need 247 attack if damage is rounded down, 246 if rounded up. I used a graph to plot the attack needed and not a formula. Sorry if my explanations are vague and unclear. Typing rushed on a short break on my phone at work...

My play tests were with Indigo (lowest attack in game with impale). Indigo worked fine, (I know it's not a flyer)

So I took a trip out to see.

OK, so complicating factors are that he's a Boss pet, so 50% reduced damage, and Critter, so Impale is strong against him.

Glowing Toxin accouns for 119 per round.

With the weaker option of Zangar Spore, he is left with 488 HP, which is still below his 25%, so Impale is going to do double damage. (With The Gorm Rootsringer, you can actually use weaker (lower health) Spores and make up for it with Puncture Wound to finish, since he is poisoned by Glowing Toxin, but that's a variation.)

So, since the double and the half cancel out, you need 488 damage - but you don't.

Glowing Toxin is going to do another 119, so 488-119 = 369. And any Beast damage needs only 2/3 of that, so Impale needs to be rated at only 246. 246-25 = 221. 221/1.25 = 176.8

So any pet with Impale with Power => 177 will do it. Which is to say, all of them.

To serve as an example, I took the lowest-Power pet I have, C'Thuffer, power 269 (yes, he wouldn't work for the strat because he's not a Flyer), with Zanger in Slot 2, and his Impale did the job just fine.

So you're saying the 1453 health is correct in the 2nd slot? Also, as long as one has impale in the last slot, it's a 4 turn strategy?

I will remove any power restriction from the 3rd pet slot.

Gráinne

wrote on 2023-02-17 21:57:48

Yes. IF you want to guarantee a 4-round kill, then the health is correct in the second slot, and you don't need a Power restriction on Impale, because no 25 Blue will have a Power as low as 177.

The more complicated case would be if you wanted to expand the range of pets you could use in the first two slots. Then you would need to use a pet in the third slot that could punch through without the "double damage below 25%" buff. Gorm Rootstinger can do it with Puncture Wound, but some others might not. That's why God invented spreadsheets! :P

The math on this one was fun. Given the fixed damage constants of Glowing Toxin, Explode and Impale, the only items to determine were: what attack value would do 499 damage with impale and what health value was needed in pet slot 2 to get us to 499 health remaining on Gnasher.

Not knowing the coefficients of pet abilities, I hope I am correct with the values above.

Gráinne

The calculation for the damage done by an ability is based on the Ability Power, and the Pet Power.

Every Ability has a Power level. Impale has a Power of 25.

The formula for damage done is
Damage = (Ability Power + (Ability Power/20) * Pet Power)
For a pet with Power 301 (Gorm Rootsinger H/P), using Impale (25) that will be
= 25 + (25/20) * 301
= 25 + 1.25 * 301
= 25 + 376.25
= 401.25

Rounds to 401, which is the value shown on a H/P or P/S Gorm Rootsinger.

When you mention 499, I presume that includes the effects of the Glowing Toxin, which would add an extra 125.

So, if I haven't dropped a round, you actually only need 374 damage from the Impale?

So your Pet Power x needs to be at least
25+1.25*x >= 374
1.25*x >= 349
x>= 279.2

I may have slipped a digit there. My typing is bad enough; arithmetic while typing into a textbox is beyond likely to contain errors!

But the principles are correct.

Ofc if you can rely in Gnasher being below 25% HP at that point, the Impale's double damage effect kicks in, and you need only 187 base damage from it, which will double to the 374, (edited)
