I dont have Marionette, so I used another strategy:
Unborn Valkyr - Unholy Ascension
summon Bone Serpent (my was lvl20) - Bone Barrage (every pet with Bone Barrage is OK)
swap with hatchling - Warning Squawk, Falcosaur Swarm! until hatchling die
then summon Bone Serpent again, use Death and Decay and Barrage again
GG EZ (+369 EXP with hat, so not worth at all for exping)

Amanita, like you, I don't have the Marionette yet, so I used your strategy. It worked great! I'd suggest adding it to the line up above.

Snowfeather purely just needs to be summoned, it doesn't need to be the first pet.

This strategy from Jaguar (or Amanita's strategy, in comments below) will also work for the Glowfly World Quest in Val'Sharah (World Wildlife Conservation, I think). Since it's not against a pet master and wasn't listed here, I wasn't sure if it would give me credit on the Snowfeather/Undead quest, but it did.
