Based on the existing Nexus Whelpling and Chrominius strategy, and credit to Lazey for their suggestion of changing the usage of Arcane Storm and using a pet with explode instead of Chrominius. I ran with his idea and tweaked the script to allow for all breeds of Whelpling to work. In this version of the strategy the leveling pet takes less damage. To fully minimise the damage it takes, you can use a P/P Nexus Whelpling, but all breeds of Nexus Whelpling and the Stormborne Whelpling work. ANY pet with explode will work (mechanical, flying, magic, etc.), but for optimal speed it should be faster than 260. |

At Turn 38 your Team has 100% health and Breezy Book and Helpful Spirit are dead. From there you need ~9 rounds to finish Delecate Moth --> ~47 rounds But your level pet is 100% safe! This way vs. Helpful Spirit you can start with Mana Surge directly which usually leads to 1 less round of enemy AoE on your level pet.
If you use Tail Sweep in the Spirits extra turn, you get the dragonkin passive and then hit hard with a second Storm when the Moth comes in. You won't need Howl this way and if Arcane Storm crits and kills the moth directly it's even better since our Nexus Whelpling will die to CoD and the XP will go to our Level Pet anyways.
(With this change we could even think about replacing Chrominus with an Explode pet and forget about the level pet swap)

Testing this strat and it works with any breed of Nexus Whelpling. I was timing it at 1:13-1:19. A P/P Nexus Whelpling is so close to killing off Delicate Moth with Arcane Storm. It has 20 hp left for the explode, so if the Arcane Storm crits it will be faster.

If you can tolerate risking the low chance of multiple criticals, you can do this with pets as low as level 11 or so (>700 HP) for all families other than mechanical (>470 HP) and flying (>1050 HP).

Turn 1 Arcane Storm
Tail Sweep until Breezy Book dies
Helpful Spirit comes in
Turn 1 Arcane Storm (it comes up exactly at this point)
Turns 2-4 Mana Surge (spirit dies on turn 3 and then turn 4 is the undead round)
Delicate Moth comes in
Turn 1 Arcane Storm - both active pets die and your leveling pet gets all the xp
This has worked every time for me with a p/p nexus whelp and I imagine can only fail if the whelp is put to sleep by the moth.

Spam Arcane Explosion until Chrominius dies.
Pull out Nexus and use Arcane Storm, Mana Surge, Arcane Storm again.
This brought it down to my Whelp and the moth. I let the moth kill my Whelp and then used Direbeak's Savage Talon to get quest credit.

There are often more efficient ways to solo a lot of these encounters quickly but for people looking to level a pet (I know I currently have over a hundred in my leveling queue) this sort of setup can be invaluable and the fact that you CAN solo it or what have you is less important than how you can bring in a lowbie pet.
