Substitutes:

Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

Thanks to oeevv on Wowhead. Beware that the first hit on the corefire imp isn't higher than 600 (normal attack should be 460 ish) and beware that Kunlai runt dies on rampage, sometimes it won't die and jeopardize the strategy. (if you have a PB runt, you can still use it, but you have to make sure it has less health than the imp when you start the fight) - thx Aeseta for the script

Had to rush twice in the end but it worked after 3-4 tries.

My Fiendish Imp had lower health than my Runt, so in Turn 2 I just swapped to Imp instead of passing. For Turn 10 I used Imp's Burn (slot 1) instead of Rush because it was higher damage, not sure if that was necessary but it worked.

Worked first time as indicated. Was very close on the imp at the end though.

Enderes#1241

wrote on 2021-06-09 15:18:55

Worked, but took like 10 tries. The enemy's Claw attack hit for >600 90% of the time.

PaddyChan wrote on 2021-06-02 14:53:41

Only had a P/S Imp avaiable. Works with those, too, but super RNG. Your Imp need to get hit lower than 550 in step 3, or it won't work

Aesetha#1450

Thanks for the strat, worked first time. A script:

quit [round=4 & self.hp < 800]
quit [round=8 & !self(#3).dead]
standby [round<3]
use(Rush:567) [round=3]
use(Rush:567) [round>8]
use(Immolation:409)
use(Mangle:314) [round=5]
use(Rampage:124)
use(Bubble:934)
standby [round=9]
use(Stampede:163)

(It'll autoquit if either the first hit on the imp is >600, or if the runt fails to die, per the author's note, just heal and start again.)

This works for me the 2nd time. The hit on Imp was ~450ish.

Ariadna

took 4 tries due to step 3 super rng. still don't understand how this strat works though

Bruman#1853

Still works in SL! Took an extra Rush at the end.

Emmett1938

wrote on 2020-08-25 09:52:15

This can work with a P/S Fiendish Imp, but it is SUPER RNG. I had to forfeit a wild pet battle to lower my P/P Kun-Lai Runt's health below Fiendish Imp's 1359, and then if Shadeflicker gets low RNG on his Claw every time (and no crits) he will die following the strategy.

JBF wrote on 2020-05-13 09:24:02

The advice given was perfect, I let a local critter nibble on my P/B runt and the strat worked 1st time
