Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

Low XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

As of Pre-patch 9.0 -Solo'd with P/B Emerald Proto-Whelp. Just Proto-Strike when it comes off cooldown and with Dragonkin buff you drop him pretty fast.

Just tested today on two different toons. One of those toons generally has bad RNG. Both times I only had to use my Emerald Proto-Whelp.

Change the strat and make sure your whelpling is a P/B breed.

Emerald Presence on CD
Proto-Strike on CD
Breath Spam in between.

Just for security, bring another pet such as the Spawn of Onyxia with breath and spam it until The Maw Dies. Just because my bad RNG meant I still got it down with one pet, does not mean that your toon might not face difficulty.

Both pets I used are wild capturable pets.

Kreggy wrote on 2017-08-27 09:08:33

Thgis can be soloed with the emerald proto drake.

Turn 1 & 2 - Proto strike
3 - Emerald Presence
4 - 6 Breath
7 - Proto-Strike
8 - Proto-Strike

Feorthorn wrote on 2018-03-12 10:36:12

with what now? The Emerald Proto Whelp or the Proto Drake Whelp? When recommending strategies it would be nice to first of all get the pet name actually right.

Sierrakilo wrote on 2018-03-21 13:01:04

He means the Emerald Proto-Whelp. It's the only pet with the breath, emerald presence and proto-strike. Thank you for the suggestion Kreggy.

Just tested with the script connected to the Rematch string. Emerald Prot-Whelp completely solo'd it but it was close. So I'm betting a any Crit from The Maw will prevent that.

ability(#1) [ self.aura(Spiked Skin:316).exists ]
ability(#2)

Eekwibble

wrote on 2019-04-16 11:55:36

Better script:

ability(#2) [ self.aura(316).duration<2 & enemy.hp>200 ]
ability(#1)

Soloed with E Proto-Drake, just use dive when it comes back up.

Hobbyhorse wrote on 2017-06-15 16:01:38

TD Script

ability(612) [enemy.round=1]
ability(597) [enemy.round=3]
ability(115)
change(#2) [self(#1).dead]
ability(122)

Septerian wrote on 2017-06-15 22:00:05

ty works great

Anonymous wrote on 2018-06-01 16:46:16

This can be simplified to

ability(Proto-Strike:612)
ability(Emerald Presence:597) [round=3]
ability(#1)
change(#2)

This also uses Proto-Strike again on round 7, which on average deals slightly more damage and also causes you to take less damage because due to RNG the fight often drags on to 8 rounds anyway.

2 Zandalari pets plus a lvling pet. Maybe not a lvl 1 . . .
Start with a Zandalari. Black Claw > Hunting Party
Swap in lvl pet
Swap to another Zandalari. Black Claw > Hunting Party.
Done

A Zandalari pet can solo this, but what's the fun in that?

Michael wrote on 2017-04-29 05:58:23

Confirmed - My Team
1) Zandalari Kneebiter (S/S)
2) Leveling pet level 1
3) Zandalari Anklerender (P/S)

Strat with Zandalari Kneebiter
1) Black Claw
2-3) Hunting Party. (3 times 88 damage, 3 times 266 damage)
3) Leap 638 damage
4) Black Claw (don't kill The Maw) - Zandalari dies
5) Bring in leveling pet
6) Bring in Zandalari Anklerender
7-8) Hunitng Party (Black Claw still active) (3 times 91 damage, 3 times 275 damage)
The Maw was dead

Leveling pet got 319 XP with Safari Hat.

I really wish this would be added as Strat 2. Personally, I hate when it says it's not worth a level pet. Well, sure, my level 9 only got 419 (with hat on) but let me decide if I want to bother with a leveling pet. Plus, this strat isn't much longer than the existing one.

As a person who sometimes uses even the tiniest bits of experience to bring a pet to a specific point (the beginning of a level), I agree with you pretty much. Besides, the pet event bonus makes many of these fights a bit more interesting. Good news to you though – in the website's beta, you are able to see the experience obtained "as is" in numbers, complete with the toggles for bonus factors as well. The description has not been determined yet. :) (edited)

I'd like to make a suggestion, and I totally understand if you don't think its a good one. When you set the abilities we are supposed to use for our pets, 1, 1, 2 or 1, 1, 1 ect. If we don't need the ability, can you not put 1 as default? Make it a ? or say it doesn't matter? Because I find myself changing abilities on pets I never use different abilities on than the 3 main ones. And then when I go to use them again, they aren't how they always are. Just a thought.

Chevy wrote on 2016-09-11 00:33:13

You can get an add on that save the abilities for each pet on each team. Never have to think about it again once you set your team

The existence of Rematch (the addon Chevy was referring to) and how simple it is to import team setups with it are indeed the reasons why I don't have a wildcard in the skill settings. I highly recommend checking it out :-)

Kotharharroc wrote on 2016-11-23 05:07:33

I know some people who don't use addons for various reasons, like My sister can barely play the game if she uses addons.

Aranesh

wrote on 2016-11-26 07:51:28

True, but reworking the page to include wildcards would be a huge effort and I just don't have the time for it right now, sorry.

TheGrandmaGamer wrote on 2017-04-11 18:32:21

I don't have a problem with the way you do it but I feel so sorry for the little girl with the limited computer - is there much "reworking" involved if for future fights you just put 0 instead of an ability number? Does zero count as a number? I just wondered.
We all recognize all the work you have done to set all this up for us strangers and appreciate it.
I don't think anyone is asking you to redo what you have already done, just make a change of some kind for the future. Isn't that right, folks? Maybe zero could mean any thing from 1 to 3 or nothing at all? Their choice.
Thanks again for all you do!!!

Aranesh

wrote on 2017-04-17 07:52:29

Hey! Thanks for the feedback, I do acknowledge this is inconvenient and adds unnecessary steps and time. Adding a wildcard would of course be possible, and could be anything. A zero, a dash, empty space, that's not the difficult part. The real effort is elsewhere. First I'd need to add a system so the strategy admins can add the wildcard, I'd estimate half a day work for that. But then, it would also mean reworking every strategy, mostly figuring out which spells are not needed exactly, and entering that. That's days of testing and editing. For the small - yet admittedly existing - benefit, it's just not that high in my list or things to do for the page right now.

RAS wrote on 2016-11-22 23:44:29

Can be soloed with a Dream Whelpling 2,2,2 (P/B). Just drop Sleeping Gas and refresh Emerald Presence when gas is on cooldown. Use Emerald Dream at 500-700hp, as long as you have 4+ stacks of presence. Refresh presence at 1 stack if it doesn't happen before it gets that low.
