Fossilized hatchling never gets more than 2 Bone Bites off before dying. Tried multiple times, without being crit as well. Had to get luck with the Valkyr and the snowfeather to crit to win.

The fact is it will not count if you have your snowfeather out as pet when doing the quest. Snowfeather team up does not work else. Pretty stupid mechanic but here it is. Be aware of it , so it does not happen to you ...
