Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
Level 5+
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.

Thanks for the strat. Given the RNG of the enemy Cyclone, you could get away with two Level 1+ pets if you don't mind rolling the dice a little. Here is a line of code to surrender if Deflection is on CD when the Fire Spirit enters:

quit [enemy(#2).active & enemy.round =1 & !self(#1).ability(#3).usable]

I have found the same thing.

Avaraen

wrote on 2021-07-01 13:43:43

The TD script worked great until the patch. Something changed and it doesn't seem to trigger Deflection properly after the first use, so Conflagrate is hitting.

ETA: (removed incorrect hypothesis, see later replies for details about what's happening)

The fight is currently bugged, so depending on RNG, this strat has a slim chance of success for now. I went 4/5 losses yesterday, and 3/4 losses today, compared to almost guaranteed win previously. (edited)

Chiana#1896

wrote on 2021-07-03 18:28:47

It's bugged. For some reason after PFS casts immolate it gets its next 3 turns in a row without the player being able to do any actions.

Avaraen

wrote on 2021-07-03 22:26:56

Chiana, good catch. You're correct; I just dug into logs, and the battle is skipping 2 rounds and reducing the PFS cooldown on Conflagrate, but not for Anubisath Idol's Deflection. My battle just went round 7 (Conflag | Deflection), proceeded as normal, but then skipped round 10 and 11 (Immolate ticks only), and at round 12, PFS cast Conflag (4 round CD), but Deflection (3 round CD) wasn't usable. I submitted a bug report in-game, hopefully we'll see a fix soon.

Gráinne

wrote on 2021-07-03 23:09:47

Yes, The battle is bugged. I also reported it and posted on EU forums.

There isn't a stun, like the bug featured on the main page here, but something weird is happening with the cooldowns and rounds of the PFS. I saw the cooldown of Conflag go from 2 to ready all in one round, and PFS used Conflag on the wrong round.

Relevant segment of PBLK log at https://i.imgur.com/Y2fXiMI.png

Nothing we can do about it. Blizzard will have to fix it.

P.S. Remte just told me that the original battle had PFS actually scripted to pass there, so it may be just a result of the pass/stun bug,

Malachi wrote on 2020-08-29 13:11:54

The strat works always if you only have one leveling pet - but DO NOT restart the fight if Deflection isn't off cool down when PFS comes in. Just continue with Crush until the next time. This strat ALWAYS works (one leveling pet).

RNG makes this unreliable

Grandpa420#2763

wrote on 2020-07-21 14:25:35

My Idol missed three times and low rolled more than half its Crush hits, which is already considered bad RNG, and I still finished with 1400/1725 HP. So...yeah, if you have completely unfathomable RNG then this is unreliable...

This works perfectly for me, i sometimes take 2 level 1 carry pets, they take some damage because of cyclone and then confusing sting but i used this tactic several times and always managed to level up all my pets

12675XP for a carry. Anubisath L25 Lava Crab L17 Ashstone Core L2. I critted Crimson, thought what the heck, swap in sacrificed Ashsone to Fire Spirits big hit, back to Anubisath kill fire take Glowy very low, then pass 4-5 times to let Glowy kill him. lava crab did last hit and got nice leveling XP.

Toenail

wrote on 2018-10-29 15:33:44

going to try another strat. this time Crimson ate my anubisath alive, still had 450(ish) HP when idol died.

Gráinne

wrote on 2018-10-29 23:47:46

That happens sometimes. Not often. I still use the strat from Mel's Guide
Link
with an Emperor Crab in the second slot. Using Snarly in the second slot, as in Phraide's guide, also works well. I've never bothered with the two-levelling-pets idea.

Toenail1203 wrote on 2018-08-12 23:51:35

maybe something has changed? Crimson did 1k damage to Idol w/o crits. Breaths alone did 245/352/245 Not much left to take Spirit to more than 1/2 health. Spirit's conflagrate hit hard too.

Camlas

wrote on 2018-06-18 17:08:04

Level 5 is nowhere near enough for leveling pets to reliably survive in this fight. Mine had to suffer through 12 turns of cyclone which can easily add up to >1000 flying dmg without crits. One of my two leveling pets died.

iriatum wrote on 2018-06-10 02:47:19

anyone else have better than this setup? it took me like 6 tries

Gráinne

wrote on 2018-06-16 13:57:59

Using a second pet along with the Idol will make this a lot safer. The one in Mel's Guide, which was probably inherited from Rendigar or Phraide or some other back in the mists of time, used an Emperor Crab with Whirlpool and Surge to take down the second pet, and could throw down an extra Healing Mists as well to spruce up the Idol when it came back in.

I never got the point of levelling two pets in one battle, since you're just splitting XP between them.

Emperor crab 2/1/2 (mine was H/H) also worked fine in place of the Pandaren Water Spirit.
Rematch string: Burning Pandaren Spirit:22RF:1116143:2126NA:ZL:

TD Script:

if [enemy(#3).active & weather(Sandstorm:454).duration>2]
change(#3) [!self(#3).played & !self(#3).level.max]
endif
if [enemy(#2).active]
change(#2)

Heya, I find the strategy on the wowhead guide for this specific spirit to be a little more reliable - Link

Hedu wrote on 2017-10-06 19:22:37

Thanks for posting this. This is a much more reliable strategy if you don't mind leveling just one pet.

Here is the TD Script for that fight:

if [enemy(#3).active & weather(Sandstorm:454).duration>2]
change(#3) [!self(#3).played & !self(#3).level.max]
endif
if [enemy(#2).active]
change(#2)
ability(Whirlpool:513) [enemy.round=2]
ability(Renewing Mists:511) [enemy.round=3]
ability(Surge:509)
endif
change(#1) [!self(#1).active]
ability(Deflection:490) [enemy.aura(Flying:341).exists]
ability(Deflection:490) [enemy.ability(Conflagrate:179).usable]
ability(Sandstorm:453) [round>1]
ability(#1)

Anyone actually test out the TD Script on this one? I found that it wasn't working for me.

Anubisath Idol - 1, 1, 1
Chi-Chi - 2, 1, 1
Carry Pet (I recommend 5+ due to whirlwind)

1. Crush
2. Sandstorm
3. Deflection
4 - 7. Crush
If, due to bad rng Crimson does not die, deflect his Lift-off and crush
PFS comes in
1. Deflection (if deflection is no CD Sandstorm, no need to restart)
2. Swap to Chi-Chi
3. Ethereal
4 -5. Alpha Strike
6. Tranquility
7. Alpha Strike
8. Ethereal
9 - 10. Alpha Strike
Repeat steps 6 - 10 until PFS is dead.
Glowy comes in
1. Bring in Anubisath Idol
2. Deflect
3. Sandstorm
4. Bring in carry pet
4.Bring in Anubisath Idol
5. Crush 'til death
6. Renew Sandstorm if necessary

Leviticusmax, thank you for this alternate strategy, which worked for me on the first time doing it. My Anubisath Idol could not carry two leveling pets using th main strategy posted here. Your method worked!

Burning Pandaren Spirit:22RF:1216143:121314R:ZL:P:500::3:::23.42:
TD Script ( 12 lines, 251 characters )

change(#1) [self(#3).played]
if [ enemy.hp.full ]
ability(406) [ self.hp.full ]
ability(490)
change(#2)
endif
ability(423) [ enemy.aura(491).exists ]
ability(538) [ enemy.hp < 353 ]
ability(803)
ability(436) [ self.aura(435).duration < 2 ]
change(#3)
ability(406)

Notes: This script is not meant for the strategy above.

This does not work. My level 18 boost pet gets swapped in twice, killing it, Anubisath does not use Deflection against Crimson's Lift-Off and subsequently gets killed too,k shortly followed by the Razordooth. I couldn't even kill the first pet using this script.

I soloed this fight with a Wretched-Servant 1-1-2 if anyone looking for easy alt pet

Hobbyhorse wrote on 2017-06-29 17:29:07

How did you do that?

my idol never gets through this battle not once unassisted by other pets always dies before he can kill second pet and i follow word for word what you do.

julianne wrote on 2017-05-16 05:14:58

i take that back first time ever my idol soloed it. Gr8 work guys

For some reason I'm not getting XP for my leveling pets...just on this Pandaran spirit. Anyone else? I submitted a bug report yesterday and the day before since it has happened 2 days now.

Gary wrote on 2017-04-03 09:37:37

I received EXP as normal from Burning Pandaren Spirit just now, 3rd April 2017.

Raygrid wrote on 2017-02-26 13:30:22

To make this more reliable I use TWO Anubisath Idols and one Level 5+ carry pet. After the swap out I send in the fresh Idol to finish out the match. Kinda feels like I'm pulling one over on poor hot head. I know that not everyone will have two Idols, but if you do it never fails.

Ascar wrote on 2017-03-27 11:54:34

Even with 3 misses on Crimson and the Spirit this strategy worked. This is totally overkill^^

Caustic wrote on 2017-02-25 17:30:33

If you miss any of your Crush attacks against Crimson, you'll have to start over. Either that or hope you get a crit to make up the difference in damage. (If you're trying to carry two pets, that is.)

Kayz wrote on 2016-11-25 14:55:46

Idol died before the second enemy did twice, so I took out one low level pet and replaced with Emerald Proto Whelp 122, didn't get to use Emerald Dream so will try 121 next time.

Saintgabrial wrote on 2016-12-13 16:14:59

That is exactly what I do. I never have more than one level pet on a team. Don't like to share with another pet I guess. Emerald Proto Whelp is what I have as back up. Don't remember that last time I had to use him though. But a good back-up non the less.

ziboo wrote on 2016-01-02 00:32:47

I've tried this a few times this week with no success. Idol doesn't make it past the Fire Spirit. Has it been changed since this strat was written?

Tried it as well just now to test, and it worked like usual. I can only imagine that your timing of Deflection was off. The most important part really is here: once it becomes available again, do not use it for 1 round (use Sandstorm or Crush instead), then use Deflection. Otherwise you will eat the big damage spells from the Fire Spirit and the strategy won't work. If you give it another try, let me know please how it worked out!

beetfield wrote on 2016-11-03 21:52:03

I find that I need to cast Deflection as soon as PFS's Conflagrate comes off cooldown. When I try to time it any other way, I get burned.

Pufo wrote on 2016-10-04 04:40:02

Bad RNG is bad RNG :) Failed 2 times due to miss from the Idol and crits from Crimson, but 3rd time was the charm. Thanks!

Anonymous wrote on 2016-06-11 04:10:06

Just did this but only lvl 1 pet

Anubisath Idol

Turn 1 Crush
Turn 2 Sandstorm
Turn 3 Crush
Turn 4 Crush
Turn 5 Crush - Crimson should die now.

Swap to andaren Water Spirit

Turn 1 Geyser
Turn 2 Whirlpool
Turn 3 Water Jet

Water Jet till Pandaren Spirit dead Glowy comes in

Water Jet till you die

Use Anubisath Idol

use Sandstorm
Swap in Level-Pet 1
Swap back to Anubisath Idol
Same as before, Sandstorm on cooldown and Crush in between until Glowy dies.

Hey!
Thanks for the suggestion. Due to the incoming changes for the Pandaren Water Spirit, this strategy will not work anymore soon :-( I'm not going to include it therefore. Sorry!

Hey! I have the odd feeling that this fight was indeed changed. I never had any problems with level 1 pets, but now my two pets almost died as you said. Maybe my memory tricks me, but to be on the safe side I now added a minimum level requirement of level 5 for the carry pets.

I'm not going to test this, since it's a variant of the strat that I use, from Mel's guide. It will work with the Idol alone, at least some of the time, but I don't like the failure rate, and I would rarely want to split the XP between two level pets. I add a P/P Emperor Crab against the Fire Spirit, and even then it's still not quite 100% certain; ideally for this fight I prefer a high-level levelling pet that can stand for the last round or two in the case of pear-shapiness.
