I did 5 test battles, "won" 3. (In the first 4, I forfeited just before Chaos would have died.)
In the first battle that I lost, Screamer indeed did not Feign Death on Turn 5, which meant a dead Tonk. I don't know why Screamer deviated. Perhaps it was how much health he had left. I'd have to run it many times and record the results to make more than a guess.
In the other battle I lost, Chaos got a crit.
So you do need a bit of luck. The good news is that you only have to get lucky with this team once, and since you're doing it for the Plushie, you don't have to go all the way through the tournament.
