Take your chances where you will. All these battles are RNG. For me, Glimr took out Ridge handily and died with Stratus. Then Tiny Cragling ate my Gurgl alive... but all my third pet had to do was live a round until the Whirlpool went off.

Used this strategy since it was sorted as first, but Ridge destroyed my team every time, unfortunately.
