Xu-Fu's Treasure Hunt

From April 2nd until May 1st 2021, Xu-Fu is hosting a virtual treasure hunt with Great Prizes!
This article explains everything you need to know.

1. Important Updates

1.1 April 5th

After looking at the game activity over the last few days, we found that the game is not working as we hoped. To address this, make the game more balanced, give new players a chance and make the game more about hiding and accumulating coins, we have introduced the following changes:

  • Warrior power is now capped at 150. Upgrading beyond that is not possible
  • All warriors with more power have been reduced to 150. Their owners were compensated with upgrade treats according to the warrior power lost
  • The warrior leaderboard is now obsolete and was removed
  • Instead, the front page now has a leaderboard of players total coin worth. This number is from both their vault and all their stashes combined (= the real rank in the game)
  • The Invisibility Cloak was changed drastically. It does no longer hide you from the leaderboard on the front page, but it now (again) prevents others from attacking your vault. The duration has been reduced to 1 hour.

2. Collecting coins

So how does it work? Well, you need to find and collect as many coins as you can!
They are placed on strategies like this ------>

There are many different things you can find scattered across strategies, not just coins! Magic portals, abandoned chests, even traders offering shady deals.
And you might stumble upon coin stashes from other players ;-)

Whatever it is you find, hover with your mouse over it to find out what it does.

3. Your Treasure Vault

The central hub for this game is your Treasure Vault.
You can access it through the user drop down menu. This also shows you the total amount of coins in your possession.

In your vault, you can:

3.1 Upgrade your vault defense

Up to 50 coins are perfectly save in your vault. But if you have larger amounts, other players can attack you and steal them!
Your vault does have some built-in defenses but they don't start out very strong, so you might want to invest some coins into upgrading it.
The first upgrade costs 30 coins and is highly recommended. It will become more expensive after that.

3.2 Manage your warriors

Warriors are important to defend your own coin stashes and to attack other players. In your vault you can buy new warriors, train them to increase their power level, and heal defeated warriors.
Careful! If one of your warriors loses a battle and you don't heal them within 24 hours, they will be lost forever!

Read more on warriors and battling other players further down in the section How Battles Work

3.3 Purchase Raffle Tickets

Each Raffle Ticket costs 10 coin and you can buy as many as you can collect coins. Each Ticket has a chance to win one of the raffle prizes. It is up to you if you want to aim for the big prize in the leaderboard or rather invest your coins into raffle tickets to increase your chances of winning.

3.4 Use the Magic Portal

Last but not least, your vault has a built in magic portal! You can use it once every 24 hours to find something great.
It will lead you to a strategy with something special hidden on it.
Good luck!

3.5 See your game activity

At the bottom of your vault page you will find a log of all your activity in the Treasure Hunt. Check back here if anything is unclear and you will see exactly what happened.
If there is any important updates, for example if another player attacked you or one of your stashes, those will be highlighted at the top of the vault as well for some time.

4. Hiding coins

As mentioned before, it is not a great idea to store large amounts of coins in your vault or you will be easy picking for other players. Even more so, the players with the highest amounts of coins in their vault will be highlighted on Xu-Fu's front page! Better avoid that if you're trying to win one of the big prizes.

Go to any strategy that does not have anything else on it and you can stash your coins there. There's no upper limit, but better not put all your eggs into one basket, right?
Once you have placed them, you should add a warrior to your stash to defend your shinies. Simply use the "+" icon to pick one of your available warriors.

Don't remember where you hid all your coins? No worries, just go to your Treasure Vault which shows you all your stashes.

5. Attacking and defending

If you come across another players stash or find coins in their vault, you can try to steal them! Stashes can be protected by warriors, though, and vaults always have a defensive power that you will have to break through with a warrior of your own.

Each Warrior (or vault defense) has a clearly visible power level which plays an important role in their chance of winning a battle.
When two warriors clash, the fight happens automatically with a clear winner and loser. After the attack, you will see a report of how the battle played out.

Interested in the nitty gritty details? Read on. Otherwise, skip the last section, it's just a bunch of maths :D

5.1 How battles work

Battles are fought in rounds. In each round, both warriors roll the dice. The "size" of the die is determined by the power level of the weaker warrior. For example, if one warrior has 50 and the other 30 power, they will both roll a 30-sided die (a D30). The lowest possible roll is a D5, even if the weaker warrior has a lower power level.

The warrior with the higher roll wins the round and attacks. Their result is subtracted from the other warriors power level.
In case of a draw, nothing happens and the round ends without any changes.

Once one of the warriors power level drops to 0 power, the fight is over. You can see a typical battle log here:

The winner of a fight will gain power depending on the initial power difference. A very strong warrior defeating a weak one will not gain much or no power at all. Same in the other direction, if you defeat a much higher warrior, yours will gain a lot of additional power.

You made it until here? Great! Now you know everything you need about coins, hiding them and fighting for them.
Go forth and conquer!

Were they defeated? If so they will appear below, and you have to heal them within 24 hours.

The instructions say you have 24 hours to heal them however, they are being eliminated immediately from the game. I have lost warriors as well without a chance to heal them. I have sent a message to Aranesh and am waiting for a response and clarification.

Did you remove the trader? Or reduce the frequency? At the beginning I was seeing a couple per day, now I have not seen one for 3 or 4 days.

In regards to the invisibility cloak, I would suggest putting it on an internal CD. Otherwise those that have it would be able to farm coins forever, as the buff can refresh its duration. I managed to strike a 5 cloak spree today, that might be a tiny bit unfair kekw

The cloak is a reward for searching. Why should someone that put an effort into checking strategies be limited if they are lucky to find multiple cloaks? They did the work, let them reap the rewards. Plus, the cloak times don't stack. If you have 30 minutes left on your current cloak time and you find another, if you choose to pick it up, then your time starts over at 60 minutes and you lose the time you had left on the previous cloak.

Because as the competition draws to a close, there will be no competition at all. There would be maybe top 10 people constantly going through strategies and farming resources without any repercussions, making half of the established defend-attack system obsolete. If we are talking about a single person being rewarded for their effort, then I am on your side. But as soon as there are 5 equally dedicated players, and the only thing separating them from one another is pure luck (attack strategy is redundant, as everyone is invulnerable), then things might get a bit awkward and unrewarding. I hit a streak of 3 today. I vowed not to attack anyone else while invulnerable, it just felt wrong. But, when the cloaking wore off, I did engage in battles. If I won, I replaced the stash with the same amount. If I attack a vault & win, I will put a warrior guarding a stash out in the world. Good luck to those who find them :)

I feel like stashes maybe shouldn't be available as options the magic portal can take you to? I think it takes out a little bit of the fun of finding a good hiding place when the portal can just take someone right there. My portals today have all taken me to my own stash lol.

Having a really fun time with the event though! :)

I had three different portals take me to the same 1 coin stash guarded by a 150 warrior lol. After the third time I attacked it just so I could actually get something useful from my portals.
Also, I think it could be a legit strategy near the end when you have tons of warriors, probably a lot of them without upgrades. Just stick tiny stashes all over to lame other people's portals. There's not much use for excess warriors at that point anyway if you already have a bunch at max power and you're hoarding coins yourself.

Hi guys, I love this little event <3 I am just a little puzzled about the fights and attacking someones hidden stashes? My stash that was guarded with a lvl 240-ish warrior got attacked and I lost. And that is fine I know the rules but what I didn't knew was that if I don't heal up those warriors within the time limit they dissapear??

I thought the time limit for them was for them to heal up during that time not dissapear completely?

This means you don't just loose your stash of coins you also loose that warrior that you spent loads more coins on than the stash they are guarding :) so you better be sure your warrior can guard that lil hidden stash of yours :D

Anyway, rant over, just got a bit dissapointed as I did not see any information about this, or perhaps I've completely missed it?

Hey!

I'm really sorry about your warrior :-( I tried to explain this in the vault as good as possible. There's a countdown on the warriors themselves, but if you don't go looking there, it's not obvious, I agree.
Sadly, I didn't have time to develop a notification system that gives a clearer warning :/

For now, I've edited the article above and added a statement there. Still got a lot to learn and adjust for this game though!

Thanks for the feedback, really appreciate it, as well as the kind words! :-)

I was overthinking this at the begining. A total stealth strategy should be valid. This strategy is mainly based on cloak, so they must get a cloak to keep the "invisibility" on the main page or they will eventually be noticed.

But, they should not pick up coins from other people. Once they do, you know they are playing and go to their profile too.

Of course I would like to find free footprints of them, but this is not so bad (edited)

How are we supposed to battle? I only came across a guarded chest once while randomly visiting strategy pages. I do not see leaderboards, largest hoards on the landing page, or vault status upon clicking on user profiles. If I hide a stash of coins with a warrior protector other battlers come along and fight them. But, how do I get to participate other than stumbling upon loose coins, lone warriors, portals or abandoned chests ? The stumbles are compelling, but I can't figure out how to battle and thus any incentive to leveling my warriors?

I just joined discord and see a statement there that invisibility cloaks are too powerful and will be adjusted to no longer protect from attacks. Maybe that is my issue, everyone is invisible? I do see a notice on my treasure page referencing the amount of coins I have and the rank, and on the home page I see a gold box that indicates strongest warriors - do these two things comprise the leader boards or am I still missing something? (not trying to complain, actually find the treasure hunt intriguing and spent more time on Xu Fu than in WoW yesterday - lol!) Just not seeing a way to utilize my warriors to initiate any battles.

I don't think they should be changed, if your vault is invisible it should be immune from damage. They should reduce the amount available though. I found 5 of them yesterday. Most were a waste, since they are used automatically. I found 1 while I still had 5.5 hours left on the previous one.

Right now the cloak means that players hoard their coins when they have one and almost no one is hiding/protecting anything. The cloaks protection makes it immensely powerful, much more than we anticipated. In the long run, we'd wish that there is more interactivity between players. This will likely happen once the game is closer to the finale and in the meanwhile we'd like to do some careful balancing changes.
The frequency of cloaks is already reduced and we hope this next step is enough to make the cloak more balanced :-)

Now that I've posted here, I know people will find me, and that's a really weird disincentive for posting, but I've done it anyway, because I really want to understand how we are supposed to find other players.

Aranesh, I don't think that interaction is going to happen like you are hoping unless you come up with a way to let people know who is playing. I suggest that their be a published leaderboard that each person opt's into. Kind of like turning on war mode in game. If your trying for the top leader prizes, then you have to opt in here. If your not into competition then you don't opt in and your name never shows on the leaderboard and you just buy your raffle tickets in peace. To prevent someone from waiting until last day and collecting alot, then opt'ing in, make their a deadline to opt in. Like by April 15th.

I'd like to get your opinion. Imagine you have a warrior where you invested 15.000 coins (or pet treats, but let's count them as coins).
What would you say is a good compensation? I have a few options and am thinking about them.

=> Convert them all into raffle tickets
=> Convert them into pet treats
=> A mixture of the above, raffle tickets + treats (50:50 or so)
=> Set the warrior(s) inactive and give you the option to sell those >150 power warriors for their coins, giving them back, but also making you very attackable until you hide those coins.

Any strong opinions? :-)

Pet treats were a lot easier to implement so I just went for it. Thanks for the input!

Those will come in handy towards the end I'm sure when you want a good number of maxed warriors to defend your stashes.
Another thing we are currently discussing is a warrior cooldown. After a battle it needs to recover for a while. That would also make a larger number of warriors to have more useful.

What do you think about that?
