Some benchmarks/stipulations that have to occur for this to work, even with the correct stats/types:

Your Leviathan Hatchling needs to die to a 2nd "Smelly Jar", so that it doesn't cast on your Strider- who will then be too slow to cast both Soothe & Cleansing Rain before it dies.

Steps 14-16 and 18-19: One of these pumps HAS to crit, or else Flummox's humanoid heal will defeat you with 60 health left.

Gulp Froglet is the only one with the Swarm ability. Other frogs have Swarm of Flies, which is not the same ability.

Was determined to defeat every familiary familiar encounter as my own personal goal and had every one but this guy. Tried repeatedly with Zinip's strat but RNG was never in my favor. Finally broke down and bought a Gulp Froglet and the difference was amazing. That Swarm ability made all the difference. With that finished I can now remove the addon, Family Familiar Helper - great addon for keeping track of progress on this achievement.

I do find it sad that this fight is a family familiar with only 1 hard-to-get pet as a truly viable option...

I ran this 4 times in a row (total alts LOL), no failures. Flummox got a couple of crits, even.

Gulp Froglet: Water Jet, Toxic Skin, Corpse Explosion
Puddle Terror: Punch, Clobber, Dive
Hydraling: Tail Slap, Swallow You Whole, (any 3rd)

Gulp Froglet > Toxic > Water Jet > Corpse Exposion > dies

After ~8-10 tries, I finally managed to do this with :

Gahz'rooki 2,2,2 - Leviathan Hatchling 1,1,1 - Spawn of G'nathus 1,1,1!!!

I was only able to manage this with a Thunderbolt crit in round 9. Also was done with a P/B Leviathan Hatchling, idk if either of the other two breeds will work.

1-Geyser
2-Swap to Leviathan
3-Whirlpool
4-Toxic Skin
5-Tail Slap
6-Tail Slap (Leviathan Hatchling dies, bring Gahz' back in)
7-Geyser
8-Swap to Spawn
9-Thunderbolt (This HAS to crit, otherwise the strat fails)
10 & 11-Dive
12-Swallow You Whole (With the Thunderbolt crit, the Dive dmg brings him low enough to
benefit from the double dmg! Also Spawn dies here)
13-Swallow You Whole

I found this strat in a Wowhead comment, so credit goes to terykats on Wowhead. Although the Thunderbolt crit wasn't mentioned nor any Leviathan Hatchling breeds.

Any strategy where one HAS to rely on a CRIT is not a good strategy. Simply relying upon good luck with RNGis too gimmicky; your 8-10 tries before success confirms this

The only reason I added this was because it did not require a gulp froglet, and thought people should know IT IS possible w/o one. If you were either not lucky enough to get one while mop was current/cant afford one now (if there even is one on the AH) your screwed if you need/want to do this. I know strats that require crits aren't favorable nor desireable (atleast in my opinion), but it is possible.

Additional strats are always appreciated - especially when difficult to obtain pets are listed. I did not have the Gulp Froglet either so tried this strat. As an FYI, I was not able to get the Leviathan's 2nd Tail Slap in with an H/P breed - looking at the stat's, this breed is not quite fast enough to go first against Flummox which would allow the 2nd Tail Slap to land. While the H/B would also have the speed, the extra Power from the P/B would seem to be the best option for this to be successful. My Spawn was only level 23 as a 2nd strike against me so was not able to make it work.

Ty, I've also farmed this Gulp Froglet w/out success so tried it w/ the Leviathan. Took 7 tries, never got a crit once w/ Thunderbolt but I had a crit tail slap and a crit dive that got him low enough for the double swallow him whole to kill him.

Thank you so much! For the strategy and for the encouragement to persist. I've been on my last 3 fights for family familiar for weeks and this guy comes up again. I've been ready to smash my computer trying these fights before. Made myself level my leviathan the rest of the way and on the second attempt had enough crits to stay alive. Down to one more aquatic and one more mechanical.

Talk about frustrating ... took me roughly 40 attempts to get this to work. Only got crits on the Thunderbolt 3 times in that span (and none in the first 25+ attempts). First 2 crits were offset by bad RNG with his crits. Thank God I'm done with this guy.

No Gulp Frog but not for lack of trying. I tried Leviathan, but it mine was H/P, so I replaced it with Hydraling. Instead of using Toxic Skin, I used Call Lightning. Took three tries to win.
Did not get the lucky crit, but got lucky on other attacks.

I finally got this to work on my 15th attempt however I finally decided to make a change and used Hydraling (2,1,2) instead of Leviathan Hatchling making its second move Call Lightning ... what a difference! I finally got him down even when Thunderbolt didnt crit for me!

From reading the other posts here, I seem to have gotten very lucky. The strategy worked for me amazingly well on the first try. We won the match with Gulp dead and the other two pets each at 70% health. I didn't even have to bring Gahz'rooki back in the second time. I was fortunate enough to have the required pets, although, I did have to use an Ultimate Stone on my L1 Gulp Froglet to get him up to speed. My thanks go out to Purged, Sof, and the Xu-Fu Team.

Couldn't get this strat to work for me - granted the first several times I tried it, I didn't have the Gulp Froglet and was using a toad for the swarm. I got a Gulp Froglet and did find this strat (from a YouTube video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83ZuCzUSfuc&vl=en) that worked on the first try:

Gulp Froglet (1, 2, 2)
Slithershock Elver (1, 1, 2)
Spawn of G'nathus (1, 1, 1)

Start with Gulp Froglet - use toxic skin, water jet then corpse explosion - froglet dies
Bring in Elver - dodge, then pump x 4 - elver dies
Bring in Spawn of G'nathus - thunderbolt, swallow you whole (this is where Flummox died for me but use Dive as the third move if Flummox doesn't die).

Also got credit for the achievement.

Sorry, but the strat did not work at all for me. I noticed that my Elver was not able to dodge Flummox first attack which basically ruins the rest of the fight. G-nathus usually gets killed right after dive (in which Flummox still has health left). My question to you, is your Elver a faster breed? That may explain why I'm having trouble with this one.

"Swarm" from Gulp Froglet is a completely different move than "Swarm of Flies" on the Toad.
Swarm breaks the armor and a far as I know the Gulp Froglet is the only aquatic with this ability.

To the poster above, you are incorrect. Swarm ability for the Aquatic pet family is not unique to Gulp. Most frogs have this ability so any frog replacement would be acceptable. Mud Jumper or Mojo if you are a pet collector.

Instead of using Swallow you whole with Spawn use Thunderbolt for larger dmg, then I used Dive and Swallow you whole. With Gahzrooki - Swallow you whole. It never worked without Thunderbolt.

This is Incorrect, as i said in another comment, Benax does not have the same abilities as Gulp Froglet (that drops in Timeless Isle), Gulp Froglet is the only Aquatic that has the Swarm ability.

^^ thats not true! Most of the frogs have the swarm ability and so does the horny toad which also has over 1600hp

I used all the master pet tamers and I couldn't raise my ominous flame from lvl 1. So I used these guys instead:

Crazy Carrot 1,1,1
Tiny Twister [P/P] 1,1,2
Tiny Snowman 1,1,2

I'm mentioning now that this is RNG based. If your tiny twister only does 1 out of the 3 slicing winds it WILL fail. I was crit with [Buuurp!] on both fights (twice with 3/3 slicing winds, once with 2/3 slicing winds) so you may get lucky and not cut the fight so close.

1. Crazy Carrot - Blistering Cold
2. Swap to Tiny Twister
3. Call Lightning
4. Flyby
5. Slicing Wind
6. Flyby again if he didn't kill your Twister (extremely unlikely) otherwise Tiny Twister dies and swap to Crazy Carrot
7. Blistering Cold - your Carrot dies and bring in Tiny Snowman
8. Snowball
9. Snowball - Don't Blizzard before Call Lightning falls off, you need the lightning for the extra damage.
10. Call Blizzard
11. Deep Freeze
12. Snowball your life away

I altered this strat a slight bit, and it worked great.

Start out with Gahz'rooki, cast Geyser.
Swap to Gulp Frog, cast Swarm.
When Swarm finishes, cast Swarm again.
Gulp Frog will die.
Bring in Spawn of G'nathus, cast Thunderbolt.
Cast Swallow You Whole.
If Spawn dies, bring in Gahz'rooki, cast Swallow You Whole.

I couldn't win with this strat, because the Spawn would be slowed before the dive, so would get hit twice in a row. I would bring in my Gahz'rooki and I could never get a 2nd attack off. I hit once, get slowed, killed. I just changed one thing: with the spawn, I did thunderbolt - THEN swallow you whole, then dive. This means the dive would avoid 1 attack, and Spawn would live an extra round. Crucially this meant my Gahz'rooki would not get slowed and would get off the 2 attacks to win.

This is a tough one. I just spent an hour trying alternative strats for Flummox Aquatic, and came up with nothing.

I hate the Elite/Boss buff. It forces us down boring paths like Shattered Defences and Howl.

I did succeed with this team, and a minor variant on the posted strat here on my fourth attempt. If Flummox doesn't kill the Gulp Froglet during Swarm, you are probably not going to succeed. Get that Shattered Defences up, and make the best possible use of your window.

I was surprised to find that only two Aquatics have Geyser, and that only one has a means to induce Shattered Defences.

I don't see what could be a drop-in replacement for Gulp Froglet.

Its role here is just to Swarm, supplying Shattered Defences to double the Geyser and Thunderbolt damage.

Gulp Froglet is the only Aquatic with a Swarm/Flock/Stampede-type move that yields Shattered Defences..

It took me 5 tries following the exact strat but it worked. There are a lot of factors such as crits and non crit damage amounts that determine if you are going to win or not but it is doable.

Es sieht nicht so aus, als gibt es ein aquatisches Pet, mit dessen Hilfe du den Schaden verdoppeln kannst, außer eben dem Schluckfroschling.
Aber du kannst Bufo auf der zeitlosen Insel ja mal farmen gehen. Mit 110 sollte das Pet schnell erfarmt sein.

Edit:Ich hab beim Schluckfroschling vor dem Schwarm noch Gifthaut gemacht, das klappte das ganz gut. Also hab es mit der Konstellation hinbekommen, nur ein wenig umgestellt
