It's possible for him to crit Ikky and kill Ikky before his 3rd turn of Flock. If so, just bring in Chrominus and use Surge of Power.

I use Anubisath as a 3rd pet so, when the RNG doesn't kill off Gorgemouth, I can use Sandstorm and then Deflection. Works 100% of the time for me.

I have found that I require a third pet about 70% of the time.
My personal recommendation on a #3 in the slot is a Rustyfur Snooter (or Snowsoft Nibbler) with */2/1.
If in undead round, Burrow or Pass
If not in undead round, Sniff Out (which will do over 1k damage) and *then* Burrow.
Even if you get critically hit every turn (which has happened to me) and thus killed early, the Sniff Out + Haunt with Black Claw active will finish him off and put him into Undead, upon which time Burrow will avoid any counterattack he will throw. (edited)

Spiked skin buff on Gorgemouth makes Valkyr/Ikky a very bad strat. Ikky dies with Gorgemougth at >30% every time.

Ikky sometimes dies before the undead phase, in that case not all lvl 25 pets work to have as the 3rd slotted pet. It swapped me to a pet with a DoT ability on #1 which dealt less dmg than gorgemouth's armor buff, resulting in 0 dmg. Using a frequent used pet like Chrominius as #3 should work really well.
