I accidentally hit Curse of Doom before Haunt today, and then it hit on one of the black claw/weakened by flock turns and was so beautiful to behold. Definitely adding it in to the rotation permanently.

The strategy did not work for me today. Ikky died, he healed, then unborn val'kyr died...and my 3rd pet was a level pet. I had to cast a doom prior to haunt.
