I can't get this to work at all. Tried ten times now. Ikky and Spirit always die together, great, but then Valkyr does almost no damage with Shadow Shock, and the snake just destroys Emerald Proto or Dream Whelps regardless of shield or heals. I also tried the variations in the comments, and no luck.

That can happen with all of these strats. The backline pets are random, and I remember from back in the days that we all dreaded getting a P/P Blue - or even Green - Tree Python, with its Fel Corruption buff, as the second pet.

If that's what happened to you, you might try using Ikky alone on the Spirit and then two backup pets, specialised to handle the Spirit's back line. Or one of the more modern strats, like Mutanis' here, using pets with tricks that weren't available back in Draenor.

I did it finally with Broot and Blossoming Ancient on most of them. Total grind, but sunlight kills the backline after a while.

There is no point in using the unborn val'kyr in this strat, ikky alone can kill it before curse of doom goes off. You're better off using ikky + two proto whelps (or whatever you prefer for dealing with backline pets).

Ikky was totally able to solo the Spirit! Emerald Proto-Whelp took out the other two, and I was able to swap in a level 24 pet too! I used a P/B whelpling. I only tried once, so it's possible Ikky could die first on a crit, but it was still nice to bring in a level.

1. Black Claw
2-5. Flock (Spirit enters undead round)
6. Anything, both Ikky & spirit die.

Bring in Emerald Whelpling
1. Emerald Presence
2. Emerald Dream

Keep Presence up, Dream when under 800 hp, and bite otherwise. Bring in level pet when safe after buff disappears.

You can probably drop Black Claw from this strat. Haunt, Doom and Flock are usually enough to do it, and it saves you a move.

I don't have Unborn Val'kyr (yet), so I used Ghostly Skull instead (Shadows Slash + Unholy Ascension). Worked like a charm, my Protodrake had >1200hp left when I won the fight.

On this strategy, it says to use curse of doom as the first thing to do. I've been watching during 6 fights now and it never gets used when its helpful. It always goes off after the Cursed Spirit has died once and goes off while he is immune to all damage with 1 hit point left just before he dies on his own.


I change it a bit so I could use Curse of Doom where it'll be more helpfull. Its as follows.

Turn 1: Haunt
Bring in Ikky
Turn 1: Black Claw
Turn 2+: Flock - Cursed Spirit dies (Ikky will probably will die here too, if not Flock until Ikky dies)
An enemy Pet comes in
Bring back your Val'kyr
Turn 1: Curse of Doom
Turn 2: Pass
Turn 3: Shadow Shock until your Val'kyr dies you may or may not kill Tree Python. (But the Curse of doom will hit tree python bringing it down to a couple hundred hit points.)
Bring in your Emerald Proto-Whelp
If Tree Python lives one Emerald Bite will finish it off.
Turn 1: Emerald Presence
Turn 2: Emerald Bite
Turn 3: Emerald Bite
Turn 4: Emerald Bite
Last pet will die on either the 3rd or 4th Emerald Bite

RNG may change on this a bit. So far with 3 tries it did almost exactly the same for me. So far.

I was having massive trouble with this fight. The tree python would always waste me .
I only had a P/P Emerald Proto-Whelp and it was not fast enough to go first against the Tree Python. However, modifying this strategy very slightly eventually got me the win.

First thing was to keep resetting the fight until the Tree Python did not have "Counter Strike". Second, you may also get unlucky and have your Ikky one shot from a crit (happened to me 3 times in a row!).

Now, in the strat it says to cast "Curse Of Doom" as soon as you bring you Val'kyr back in. The Tree Python would "Burrow" and I'd miss. So I just passed instead, then cast "Curse of Doom". This was enough to then follow standard Emerald Proto-Whelp protocol instead

if you get the Fen Crab as a backline pet to the cursed spirit AND it has Blood in the Water. it eats my emerald proto whelp for lunch. i tried it again using Haunt first and it worked only because the crab didn't have blood in the water this time.
