Spawn of G'nathus was killed before Red Wire self destructed, which then hit my third pet. Had to bring another crab as third, to finish Egcellent with Snap.

This appears extremely RNG prone. If crits or anything make it so that, as mentioned, Gulp dies early, you end up with lingering stacks of Shattered Defenses. When Egcellent comes in, he will murder your crab and then everything else falls apart. (edited)

Swapped out the 2nd pet for Hermit Crab (S/S - 1-2-1) and 3rd pet as well. Use Bubble and Dive to dodge Red Wire's big attacks. Worked out with much HP left!

I used Shore crab (1.1.1) Tundra penguin used slippery ice and Belly slide only on the mech, then used my Bleakwater jelly with rain dance at first then just squeeze.

Chuck Rip and Blood in the water against the mechanical, Rip to Egcelent when he returns.

used H/P Moonshell Crab: 2,1,1 to cleave easily through Gulp, through egberts first phase, and halfway through Red Wire. Pretty straightforward, just keep shield and renewing mist up, water jet to fill.
Puddle Terror: 1,1,1 easily cleaned up the rest without effort, making it an easy fight with Nature's Ward and Sunlight.
You should be able to throw a leveling pet in the mix with reliability.

Used a Ghostshell Crab, 1-2-2, followed steps for Emperor Crab until he died on Red Wire, brought in Ghostshell Crab brought Red Wire down pretty low and used Bubble to block his explosion. Spirit Claws until Egcellent is dead

My crab wasn't 25 yet so I used Magical Crawdad (1-2-2). I followed same order except used Wish on CD after 1st shell shield.

Using the Crawdad and Wish worked much better for me than using the crab. I don't know if it was because I have an H/H emperor crab or what, but thank you for your input! I also used a turtle with Bite at the end to help finish the fight off quickly with Egcellent.

Excellent team set-up. Hoped to get some XP for the third pet but I didn't even manage to get it out .. :)

You say to use Paralyzing Shock with Gnathus, but you have it set to Thunderbolt?
