In this case, though, Wrathion's first pet is 375 speed, which is faster than any Frostfur Rat, so a Speed breed there would be of no use. Bonkers' speed *could* be a factor against Wrathion's second pet, except that the avoidance is used against Ice Tomb, which is at the end of the round, so speed doesn't matter for that, and there are no other tricky moves like Life Exchange involved at all.
I don't see why breed would be a major factor here.
If you want someone to check it out, please provide more details: what was your third pet? where did the strat start to go wrong? when did your Rat die? when did Bonkers die? like that.
I do see this strat has the RNG tag already. I expect that is because of Darkness, When you bring Darkness to a battle, you always run the risk that the misses will work against you. Was that what happened? did your Bonkers miss repeatedly in Darkness? if so, there is not much that can be done. (editado)
