None of them are really required, but if I had to pick one it would be Lil'Ragnaros. Elementals are a family with not too many strong pets, and he's definitely a very good one :-)

There are some very few strategies that use the Blossoming Ancient and the Pandaren Monk, but there are plenty of alternatives. I dare say none of the shop pets are a necessity for battling at all. At least for PvE. In PvP they are all decent, but no top tier among them.

I'd say, go for personal taste. And cats, cats are always good ^^

I picked up Rag and Ancient so far.
Can get a third, but I don't know who I want to pick up, haha.
