I see the strats using the NFD tend to swap after using Life Exchange, and I'm not quite sure why. I get that they're critters and the Kun-Lai has beast attacks, but the NFD holds its own just fine, and leaving it in means you're not eating damage from a swap. Here's what I changed to make this combination work for me: NFD (2,1,1)

Round 1: Pass
Round 2: Moonfire
Round 3+: Arcane Blast until Clubber dies

Squirt comes in

Round 1: Arcane Blast
Round 2: Evanescence
Round 3+: Arcane Blast Until Squirt dies

Squeezer comes in

Round 1+: Arcane Blast until dead

Bring in your Kun-Lai Runt

Turn 1+ : Rampage > Thrash

I swapped in my S/S faerie-type to ensure I could get Life Exchange in first, but alas, my P/B Runt has problems with getting to Squeezer as others have mentioned. I don't know if he was critted or what, but I used my (high-level) trainee and the dragon's Arcane Blast to kill the crab.

This strat worked except.... Kun Lai Runt dies before he gets to rampage Squeezer. Instead I bring the NFD back in and arcane blast that crab into paste. Done and done.

Xu-Fu works well too. I simply use Moonfire after the Life Exchange to ensure Spirit Claws hits 100% and then use Feed when you need the HP.

If your Nether Faerie Dragon is P/P breed, there's a chance for Squirt to go first, making your Life Exchange miss -- best to restart, or substitute in another breed if you have it.

The fight STILL WORKS even if "Lun Lai Runt" gets swapped in. Just to Pass for leveling pet. Then pass again on run and follow the rest of the guide.

I had the same issue that other people have mentioned with the P/P kun-lai. My NFD does fine and gets swapped in as expected, but the runt's attacked are bubbled, and he dies before being able to do any damage to squeezer. So, to keep the runt from being destroyed, I left my NFD in for an extra round, to let him soak the damage from the dive. He was full hp, and it left my runt with the extra 600+ hp that he would have lost, which made him easily able to finish the crab.

Maybe I was lucky but I used moonlight on turn 3 killed Clubber and waited with the life exchange to round 7 on next opponent. I stayed on the NFD and was able to use LE again against Squeezer - didn't have to use Kun lai Runt at all !

Unfortunately, this strat was NOT RELIABLE for me. Clubber kept swapping in my kun-lai runt instead of the faerie dragon, even after i swapped the spots in my pet journal, and once Squirt comes in, he is faster than my faerie dragon (H/P breed) and dives first, making my life exchange completely null. I had to keep forfeiting when these events happened.....remove the 'reliable' tag from this strat and add in better notes.

OK I updated the breeds on the fight, I'm pretty sure Kun Lai needs the extra health from P/B, so the Nether Faerie can probably be anything but H/P so he gets swapped in first. I did it with an S/B Nether Faerie. If P/P and S/S don't have enough health then I'll mark them off too.

Squeezer seems to attack at random (hotfixed?). For me it went to just bubble and annihilate the leftover of my runt before it could do any damage. Yet I had a dragon with full health, it could still just basic attack it to death.

The rotation didn't work for me at all, the Runt died before the third pet came in. I switched back to the Nether Faerie Dragon and spammed Arcane Blast until the mob died, which worked because the third pet didn't use anything but its heal ability a lot of times in a row.

Didn't work at all on the first try. Kun Lai Runt (PB breed) attacks Squeezer, but he has bubbled, and so gets blocked twice. The retaliation strikes kills him, and thats the end of the script....lol (so i still have a full health NFD and the leveling pet).

I killed it manually with "Arcane Blast", because at that point, Squeezer just kept doing "Renewing Mists".

I tried it twice, and both times, Kun-Lai Runt dies earlier than indicated. I used P/P breed, because that's the one I had. Life Exchange is prone to missing if the pets have the same speed. Both times, NFD cleaned up okay, but last time was a too close call for comfort.
