Replace Benax with Rospo Motorizzato with Water Jet and Explode. Should just need Explode - you can skip bringing in the level pet, and it still gets all experience.

Good call - if you do use Motorized Croaker, you can use this script (requires motorized croaker in 2nd slot, levelling pet in 3rd):

The script works for any pet with explode, motorized croaker is just nice because he has water jet (strong vs Pandaren Water Spirit). But since in most cases explode is all that's needed, any explode pet works. (edited)

Didn't even use my 3rd pet - I used Rain Dance a couple times and Lift-Off to miss the first set of traps on the Water Spirit. My Bloodbeak came out with 700+ life left. Love it!!

It doesn't seem to be effective anymore, probably just some bad luck with RNG; Bloodbeak and Benax both died (I was one turn short...).

Tried a second time and carried pet died.

The bird I used was a Sea Gull B/B Level 23 rare with Slicing Wind instead of Peck + Lift+off. Worked ok :)

For your leveling pet 706 health is not enough. Choose something with 900+. My Xu-fu level 11 at 672 health died, as did my winter Rageling level 11 at 886 health.
Also it's a pretty RNG fight if the strider uses wave or water jet on your flying pet. It affects how hard your level pet gets hit and if your flying pet will die by the time the Water Pandaren Spirit comes out, which will pretty much 2 shot Benax. (edited)

I would say you should go for a lvl 10 pet at least to feel safe here. Level 7 pets dies almost always, it depends on how often the Water Spirit casts Tidal Wave.

Consider using your Maxed out P/P Emperor Crab as your 3rd pet. Surge goes first and you hit for 400 or so with your crazy high atk stat, two turns ends the spirit and you can bring a lv5 levelling pet safely becaus ehe dies quicker and casts less waves.

As Patsy wrote below, the Bloodbeak so easily solos this battle that you actually have pass about 10 times at the end and the risk of your carry pet dying increases significantly.

I'd suggest using even a slightly higher leveling pet than either CrazyFluffy or Krowi suggest. My L14 951 Mechanical just barely squeaked by. Other than that caution, however, the overall strategy works GREAT! Thanks to everyone for your tips & tricks.

Bloodbeak can easily solo this fight, so don't be a fool like I was and follow the strategy without thinking about your level pet ;)

My undead lvl 7 pet with 505 hp died. It took 582 dmg so there is some RNG from the looks of it. Reason for me posting this is that the leveling pet in the team states it needs 706 hp while the comment of the poster of this team says it can have lower health.

Based on my 582 hp dmg I took these healths as lower limit
Elemental needs 706 health -> 874
Magic needs 314 health -> 388
Other pets need 471 health -> 583
