Took me three tries to get this successfully. On the third I didn't need Shore Butterfly at all; Sentinel and Vespoid were enough. So definitely some RNG but it did work. For reference I had P/S Sentinel, P/B Vespoid, and S/B Butterfly (all rare).

Used this tactic but i switched out Bloodsucker Vespoid for Dreadtick Leecher and Shore Butterfly with Axebeack Hatchling.

Yes there definitely is something wrong with the script. ~~I think the vespoid maybe also needs to be a SB for this tactic to play out as described. non the less I was able to finish it with a HB per~~.

Edit: for the tactic to properly work as described your pet needs > 276 base speed. I did some testing and could only get it to work (as described) with a SB (edited)

Thanks for letting me know! My Vespoid is P/B, so there was something funky there. It seems to be in the script, so I would appreciate it if you would give it another try and let me know how it worked.

I redid the script so it shouldn't fail in the middle now. I also tested the new script with each combination of Butterfly and Vespoid breed on PetSim.

Here's the win percentages for each combo after 500 sims:
