This worked on the 4th try after I made one switch. I used Hiss on turn 5 instead of Scratch for the speed reduction.

Not sure if anything has changed since I wrote this one, but when I follow the steps manually I still get it to win. Did a new take on it where I'm sacrificing pet #1 during apocalypse, and let the roach do some hitting afterwords. Seems to work better. I did try to create a script and got about 96% win rate on wow-petsim.

WoW 9.2.7+ no script: This has us using Scratch on the roach but it does not tell us to make sure we choose Scratch ability. It should read 1*2 on abilities for Roach. Things went a little weird after turn 19 but I still won 2nd try (1st try my Roach didn't happen to have Scratch on).

A tip is to always read thru the steps of a guide before trying it, even step 5 has Scratch :)

Thanks for trying out this strategy, can you please tell me where it fails?
Is it the steps or the TDScript (I'm no script wizzard so that could be the problem)

I just tried it and it worked for me, might be some RNG I have missed maybe.

So I took a look, and it failed for me three times in exactly the same way.

This is a very nice and exact strategy, as is common with difficult Family strats, and needs equally exact timing, In all three cases, what happened was that I killed Slugger a round early; Slugger died to the Dive on Round 17 instead of living to be killed by the Absorb in Round 18. While killing an opponent earlier is usually a good thing, the problem here is that Runehoof comes in and finishes off your Roach before Apocalypse goes off, so Apocalypse never hits.

In my three tries, I used an S/S Roach, and a H/H Cockroach. I post a log below with the H/H Cockroach. Both of these are minimum power for the moveset. One possibility is that the Roach you used had less power, but I'm not sure how. In the log I'm posting, I did get a crit, but that was not essential to the sequence.

I did not try the script. I do not and will not use that addon.

Thanks for taking the time to explain and sharing the log!
Only done a few strategies and still learning, so any input is welcome!

It should not be a problem if Slugger dies from the Dive.
If it does, then the Absorb in round 18 should be used as first hit on Runehoof.
It's all about the timing of the Apocalypse, Roach should not be brought in until there is 1 round left on Apocalypse.
I cannot see it in the log you posted, seems like you forfeited that specific fight, but could it be that you bring in Roach 1 round too early?

I have updated info in the steps that Dive may kill Slugger.

I used a Roach SS breed (hp1375/pow210/spe315)

Thanks for the response! That fixes it, I think. Previously, the instruction was to bringthe Roach in where Runehoof could get two hits on him before Apoc went off. Now, the instruction to keep the Softshell in means that Runehoof will get at most one bite on the Roach, which is enough to save the Apocalypse. :)

On trying with the new ways, I won 2 of 3. (The third had some bad RNG with Moth Balls and Predatory Strike,)

I think it's fair to remove the RNG tag. There is some RNG with this battle, but I think we can allow that that's assumed when it comes to difficult Family strats.

Awesome to hear!
The steps are still in same order, but I added the text about the Dive and that Absorb was either kill Slugger or first strike of Runehoof, so more of a clarification than a change.

I did the fight 5 times now to check again, and I won all 5.
I see that the TDScript would fail if Dive kills Slugger, so will add info about the script also.
