Also tried it with a lvl 22 Dark Phoenix Hatchling ... must be a bad case of rng, it died before killing the water spirit :(

If PWS gets down to below 370HP but above 227HP, you should use Sandstorm instead of Crush, since Crush has a damage range that bottoms out at 227, but Sandstorm does 370 every time. This will ensure that the PWS dies on that turn. This is important mainly if you took a level 15 pet, since they can only take so many Tidal Waves.

My gryphon wasn't levelled for this so used Bloodbeak from Tannan. Very effective!
