I had no luck with Terky HB so I swapped him out for Feral Vermling SB (2,2,1)
Backflip
Poison lash
5x tongue lash (dead)

Hopling SS:
Backflip
Poison lash
4x tongue lash
Poison lash
Togue lash

Direbeak did not even need to enter.

After 15 tries of Terky dying on the 4th round, I tried this strat, worked first time - vermling died on 4th tongue lash, hopling died on 3rd tongue lash but direback killed it off with swarm and predatory strike, thank you so much :)

I used a Feral Vermling (2,2,2) instead of Hopling since they have the same move set.

I used a Father Winter's Helper instead of Hopling. Finished Dark with blizzard, cast Ice Tomb when it resurrected, pelted Light with snowballs until it killed the helper. Hatchling finished the fight with swarm.

My Terky was killed in round 4 every time, so I just tried and continued regardless. I used Sporeling Sprout as I didn't have Hopling levelled up. Used Jab to get Harbinger of Dark to die and resurrect, then Creeping Fungus. Continued as described by OP. It ended with Harbinger of Light and the Direbeak Hatchling dying in the same round (round 15), but since the Sporeling/3rd pet was alive I still got credit towards the quest (Direbeak Tema Rumble).

It's nice to hear that there is an alternative to Hopling so that if others who as you doesn't have it lvl'ed or not at all, can go here, read what you did instead and still make it work.
