An S/S Nether Faerie Dragon would work, I used P/S Nexus Whelpling myself, Emerald Proto-whelp was P/P but apart from the speed of the opener I think Any breeds are viable .

Any Level 25+ Dragon

I tuned this over ~40 battles, and have a 100% win rate with it. Most of the time your Moon-Touched Netherwhelp will solo this, but occasionally you can hit just the right conditions from crits or misses so that your Netherwhelp dies, and you'll need to use your Dream Whelpling. Absolute worst case, your second and third pets should be able to finish the final enemy pet without any problems.

For slow dragons - only the middle one needs to have some speed. Disadvantage: only works if your dragons always hit (risk for Faerie) and if you get no random extra damage (risk for Nexus and Stormborne)

Based on DragonAfterDark's strategy, swapping out Emerald Whelpling for Dream Whelpling.

Even the author suggested specifically that an S/S NFD should work, and that the speed of the opening pet was important.
