This did the trick for me by I admit it was a close one. I have also only done this the once but at least I know it can work so folks can give it a go if all else fails etc. Oh and I admit it was a bit basic in the way.

Firstly, your Syd needs to attack first on the last round he is alive (both pets have 260 speed so its RNG).
Secondly, your Eldritch Manafiend can be killed before surge of power if Fang hits with all 3 hits if Slicing Wind.
Assuming its a 50% chance you attack first and a 66% chance that Fang does not hit 3 times with slicing wind, there is a 0.5*0.66*100% or 33% chance of success. Doesn't mean you're guaranteed to get it on your 3rd go, just means it should take around 3 (took me 5, he hit with 3 slicing winds 3 times in a row and syd died early 2 times)
Of course unlucky crits can decrease the odds even more but this strat definitely works if both of the above dependencies are met. (editado)
