Really sloppy description of the strategy. It's not four rounds, it's more like 14 - 20 rounds. Lots of RNG as well. My carry pet (lvl 24) won the day with about 100 hp left.

I picked the WQ for an Emissary today and thought I'd look to see if there were any interesting strats I hadn't tried.
