I wrote a script for this battle, which requires Hydraling as third pet. The strategy follows the original post but still assumes RNG around turn 5, whether your pet is stunned or not. Essentially, keep retrying until the fight goes the way of the script:

My team is breed specific but has flat out never failed
2/1/1 Inland croaker HP breed 2/1/2 Hydraling and 1/1/1 Coastal scuttler HB breed
hope this helps as this was one of THE WORST battles period!

I had better luck with a Tundra Penguin in slot 3 (121) Slippery ice followed by ice lance spam to kill off maws jr

I had a B/B croaker and it also worked out when it didn't get stunned at a bad time. The only thing that went differently was that when I started stampeding, instead of Bruce getting stunned by ice tomb he died by it. changing the order of the next moves a bit.

NONE of strategies above doesn't work for me, what DOES work, was wowhead's georgecop one:


Spawn of G'nathus 1-2-2 (1302H / 305P / 289S)
Hermit Crab 2-2-2 (1400H / 284P / 349S)
Coastal Scuttler 1-1-1 (1603H / 264P / 264S) - needs more than 260 speed to work

vs. Chum
1) Lightning Shield
2) Paralyzing Shock
3) spam Swallow You Whole until Chum dies

vs Bruce
4) spam Swallow You Whole until Spawn of G'nathus dies
- Bring in Hermit Crab

If Bruce used Bash to stun Spawn of G'nathus, go to step 7. Otherwise, go to step 5

5) Bubble
6) Whirlpool
Go to step 11

7) Whirlpool
8) Fish Slap
9) Fish Slap
10) Bubble

11) spam Fish Slap until Bruce dies

vs Maws Jr.
12) Whirlpool
- Bring in Coastal Scuttler
13) Bubble
14) Stampede (Whirlpool hits)
15) spam Pinch until Maws Jr. dies

Whirlpool -> Swap -> Bubble is 2 turns already and Whirlpool will hit before Stampede. It only works if the Hermit Crab dies on the same turn as casting Whirlpool. This didn't end up being a problem though, since I brought in Hermit Crab a 2nd time and got to Bubble again to kill Maws.

OMG! I had to go hunt an H/B Coastal Scuttler and after a dozen+ tries and trying other strats. It finally worked, Thank sweet Jesus I never have to do this again!

Strat listed at the top wasn't working for me, so I tried this -- was still RNG, but after a few tries the Hydraling managed to win it

I agree that after 30+ tries with other strats this worked! For me it was the first try with the Hydraling but having done it so many times with the original team there are a few places the first 2 pets have RNG issues and could lose it. I did not try the Fen Crab start mentioned but I think it is the couple big hits at the end that do the trick.

Here's the problem with this strat.
If everything goes well, Maws Jr. would kill coastal scuttler after the "stampede" round (turn 16) and go back to full HP. Due to the aoe Bruce made before, my third pet usually has less than half HP left. There's not enough rounds to finish Maws Jr. I don't know how did you do it with mud jumper. I used the same breed but didn't work. Did I miss any other RNG part?

So true. Mud Jumper is in the ICU by the time he gets a turn. SLICK's suggestion with the Fen Crab worked, barely.

Finally! Omg this is one of the toughest one (still got elemental family). I had to find another Inland Croaker found a rare HP even then had to reset 3-4 times to get second Ice Tomb in turn 7, the stun is so annoying. Good luck all.

Victory after 5 tries. H/P Croaker, H/B Scuttler, and, THANK YOU STYX, 2/1/* Hydraling. Hydraling came in at <50% HP, Call Lightning'd, then Tail Slap'd, after Rip DoT damage the fight was over and Hydraling had less than 100 HP.

You really need the right breeds for the inland croaker and coastal scuttler for this to work. Don't waste your time trying if you don't have them.

Used Lost Platysaur instead of Coastle Scuttler, which I didn't bother to catch yet. Worked first try. Those Surges on last few points help a lot, as well as both Dive and Bubble.

3rd pet was a Fen Crab with Rip/Blood in the Water. That was the trick for me.
