Substitutes:

Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

DragonsAfterDark: Because the OP has been gone for quite a while, this strategy has been updated to reflect Shadowlands changes. It should still only take about 5 rounds, depending on when Dos-Ryga heals. Anything with greater than 284 speed, Predatory Strike, and a Flying ability in slot #1 is fine in slot #3.

Low XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!

I could probably add a lvl pet on the last pet, as long as it has call darkness, predatory strike, or anything strong enough to take out the enemy pet. I ended up with around 300-500 XP left when I got to my 3rd pet, and still had the Unborn Valkyr to do damage if I needed it.

Use "Curse of Doom" at first round. This change increase the success rate ;)
Last pet can may be low level. Dos-Ryga have below 100 Hp O:) (edited)

Worked straight away for me with a B/B Unborn Val'kyr and P/S Ikky. Worked a second time, too, although Ikky died in the same round as Dos-Ryga. (edited)

used a Val BB and a Ikky PS. 3rd was a terror puddle at lvl 18.
The Terror puddle had to hit the fish twice before i won the fight.

What breed Valk were you using? What happened that you didn't expect? We need to know that to know whether it was the strat's fault, or yours.

Anyway, it works for me.

I just did it, and logged it, and I'm not sure how it can fail. Dos-Ryga died perfectly, and that was in a battle with no crits at all.

P.S. I just tried it again, without the Valk. I started with Ikky, Savage Talon to give Dos-Ryga something to heal on his R1, then Black Claw and Flock. He died just from Ikky, without needing the Valk at all. Again, no crits. Maybe a crit on one of his Frost Breaths, or Healing Wave in R5, might have given me problems, but without those, Ikky one-petted him. (edited)

Felplague wrote on 2020-06-26 06:55:07

yeah this does not work for me either, whiskers is right.
Turn 1 i do as it says press haunt, then dos uses whirlpool
Ikky comes out ikky uses black claw, dos hits him
Ikky hits with flock, he heals. Then whirlpool goes out, lowing ikky to below half health
Then dos hits first because ikky is too slow, and kills ikky.

I actually don't remember how this battle used to be in Mists, but now Dos-Ryga's moves are random. They probably always were, but I couldn't swear to that.

I've logged three battles, and Dos-Ryga's first two moves in all of them were were Healing Wave and Frost Breath, in different orders.

I can see how a Whirlpool on the first move could mess things up for this strat. This would likely also apply to Ikkjy alone.

Sanve wrote on 2020-11-09 07:28:45

Gráinne, I can also confirm that the current TDScript fails. I tried starting with Curse Of Doom, then follow the script and it worked. Without the curse damage, Ikky just dies too fast

Gráinne

wrote on 2020-11-09 11:33:12

So I tried 6 times. If even a H/H Valk Haunts, and Ikky gets off BC and even 2 rounds of Flock, DR will die. (3*175 + 3*265 from Flock/BC, 24 + 185 + 185 from Haunt, plus 185 in the nxt round, even if Ikky dies)

FINALLY got it to fail.

The sequence it failed for me was:
DR casts Whirlpool on the 1st move.
Frost Breath 431 damage to Ikky on BC
Frost Breath 431 damage to Ikky on 1st round of Flock
Whirlpool 646 damage to Ikky kills Ikky, preventing the second round of Flock

As I said in my post above, a crit on one of the FBs, or a well timed heal as Felplague described above, might also do it.

I suppose the moral of the story is: bring a third pet in case one of these cases happens. A Darkness/Nocturnal Strike flyer might be appropriate, or maybe another Black Claw/Flock combo.

To gain what little XP this battle has to offer, it is safe to place a low-level levelling pet with 500+ HP in slot 1, have it use 1 skill, and then swap to Unborn. (edited)
