Prepatch test comments:

I thought this might have been a victim of the Flock nerf, but it worked for me with a P/S Hatchling and a H/H Whelpling,

The Whelpling finished off Spirus with its Undead round to spare, so I used that to get in one Tail Sweep rather than burn a round on a switch. Everything else went like clockwork.

Looks solid! (With the usual caveats about crits and other Acts of RNG) I can't be certain it deserves 5 stars, since I haven't actually analysed the numbers or looked at other breeds, but it surely warrants at least 4. (editado)

This shouldn't be the first strategy. Tried this 3-4 times 2 different time's i've gone to the tournament and this strategy never works for me. No specific breed listed, but spirus just rolls through scourged and wildhammer like it's nothing

I used Bloodgazer Hatchling (1, 1, 1), Scourged Whelpling (2, 2, 1), and Snarly (1, 2, 2) and used Falcosaur Swarm, Slicing Wind, Predatory Strike until dead. Follow the above strat for the Whelpling. Both until they’re dead. Snarly comes in, Rip then Blood in the Water. Snarly only got hit once for 300.

Instead of Wildhammer Gryphon Hatchling I used Bloodgazer Hatchling and started with Falcosaur Swarm, Slicing Wind, Predatory Strike (Spurius comes in) Falcosaur Swarm and Slicing Wind until dead then go on with the above strat. Worked easily

This strat worked for me. Used P/P Gryphon, H/H Whelp, H/B Swamp Croaker. My whelp died one step early but worked out in the end with no problems.

Tried again this week and the first time my team did terrible. No one was able to kill Spirus and I started over. So I recommend doing Wise Mari first so if you have to start over it's not a waste of time. Was able to do the strat the second time through.

OP here. Worked first try as written this week. So I still stand by my do this guy first statement, just in case it doesn't work for you and you have to start over. I used P/P Gryphon, H/H Whelpling, and H/B Croaker. Gryphon took out first pet easily, Whelpling squeaked through, and Croaker did really well.

This strat fails - Spirus rapes both gryphon and whelpling. Croaker almost gets it done at the end but after 10 tries I gave up. (using Speed, H/S, and Balance pets - in order of appearance)

Worked for me as written today although my whelpling killed spirius while resurrected so my croaker had to 1v1 the last pet (the water elemental)... P/S gryphon, H/H whelpling, H/B croaker

Unfortunately, this strategy doesn't work. Without Spirius getting a crit, the Wildhammer Gryphon is killed before being able to cast Slicing Wind once. And Spirius also kills the Scourged Whelpling after the first Tail Sweep. So I was left with the Swamp Croaker with Spirius at full health because it healed back to full.

Maybe the 3 pets have to be specific breeds for it to work?

Breeds shouldn't make a difference here. Can you please let me know which breeds you use for both the Gryphon and your Scourged Whelpling? I'd love to give it a try with those breeds then!

Tried this combo and can't get it to work for me either, used both H/H and P/P on the Wildhammer and P/S on the Scourged Whelping. Both gave the same result, having to bring in the Swamp Croaker to try to finish off his 2nd pet.

Using an H/S Wildhammer Gryphon Hatchling, I can kill the first pet.
But my P/S Scourged Whelpling dies well before the second pet. And my frog can't manage the remainder.

This fight just worked for me. I used a Mud Jumper instead of the Swamp Croaker. I did the exact move sequence until I brought in my frog and went Bubble - Water jet until River was dead.

Gilnean Raven (Any breed) + Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling

Abilities:
Raven: Alpha Strike, Call Darkness, Nocturnal Strike
Mech. Dragonling: Breath, Thunderbolt, Decoy

Start w/ Raven
Alpha Strike 1st turn
Call Darkness 2nd turn to overwrite Cleansing Rain
Finish up w/ Nocturnal Strike & Alpha Strikes

When Spirus comes out, swap for Mech. Dragonling (who resists magic AND does bonus dmg vs magic)
Decoy 1st turn and on cooldown
Thunderbolt when Spirus uses Soul Ward (free damage on his back pet)
Spam breath in the meantime

As for River
Decoy on cooldown; he only uses hard-hitting, multi-round abilities so Decoy should block almost every single attack

Hey Ntina!
This suggestion is very similar to alternative 5. It omits one pet, but for safety reasons I think it's not bad to have the voidcaller in as a backup.
