PAGE UPDATE - BY ARANESH
With a big thanks to Nyari for writing them and Shenk for translating, today we have two new guides up on Xu-Fu:

Getting Started on Pet Battling - detailing the best ways to get your first pet to level 25
Recommended Addons - a list and quick explanation of the most widely used pet battle addons

Both are excellent resources and will hopefully help many fresh battlers find their way into the ins and outs of the pet battling world.

Thanks for the guides, when I was a new player one thing that I was looking for that was harder to find was a good capture team. Maybe a guide with some suggestions on different pets to use and why might be helpful for new players as well.

I was also looking for something like this early on. Took me a while to learn about "Weakening Blow" on the terrible turnip.

If you liked Weakening Blow, you're gunna love Howl + Superbark on Grumpy or Lord Woofington!

I will definitely check them out. Do you use specific pets to fill out the team and use when the pet is not the right quality/breed or do you use based on the pet your chasing? Or do you run away in those situations?

My default Taming Team is P/P Emperor Crab, Anubisath Idol. Grumpy. That is NOT optimum, nowhere near, but I have used the Crab and Idol pair since Mists, and I'm a boring creature of habit, and speed is not a consideration for me when capturing a new wild pet.

The Crab with Surge is often all I need. He can sit there forever shielding and healing himself while throwing the trap. The Idol will happily take out the pets I don't want to capture, if they have counters to the crab like Lift-Off. If the target pet has Flying damage against the Crab, enough to be a danger, I might replace the Crab with a P/P EPW or something, that has the same mission of "stall while throwing the trap".

When deciding what to capture, quality no longer matters to me; only breed. Blue stones are so ridiculously cheap and plentiful now (Kidz these days are so spoiled!) that throwing one on a capture pet is automatic. I will know the breed I'm looking for, and as soon as I enter the battle, I forfeit immediately if the target is not the right breed.

I dont know if it is possible but I would love to see a guide on leveling a character with pet battles. Its a challenge I plan to try once Shadowlands squishes the levels.

I did read the new guides and they are great :) (edited)

Levelling a character with pet battles is just about finding an area where predictable pets that you can get character XP from are plentiful.

There is a list of some of these in the Powerlevelling page here: https://wow-petguide.com/index.php?m=Powerleveling in section 2.2 Wild Pets

With the Shadowlands levelling system, it ought to be possible to level though, say, Draenor on Icespine Hatchlings alone. That would make my eyes bleed, but it would be possible. I checked on PTR, and the character XP available seems to be about the same, relatively, as it is on live. (edited)

In which language did you try to look at the guide?
There is currently a bug that it is only displayed in English and German.
