Low XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
RNG
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

Script seems to quit whether or not Curse of Doom connects.

Camlas

wrote on 2018-07-08 08:54:20

That's because the script is for Haunt, not Unholy Ascension. Here's the correct script:

ability(Curse of Doom:218) [enemy.round=1]
quit [!enemy.aura(Curse of Doom:217).exists & self(#1).active]
ability(Unholy Ascension:321) [enemy.round=2]
quit [!enemy.aura(Unholy Ascension:320).exists & self(#1).active]
change(#2) [self(#1).dead]
ability(Black Claw:919) [!enemy.aura(Black Claw:918).exists]
ability(Flock:581)

I use a pp Zandalari Anklerender (2,-,2) in place of Ikky because it takes less damage from Eye Beam while dealing more damage at the same time. Ikky still takes the third spot to account for RNG. Here's a script for that.

ability(Curse of Doom:218) [enemy.round=1]
quit [!enemy.aura(Curse of Doom:217).exists & self(#1).active]
ability(Unholy Ascension:321) [enemy.round=2]
quit [!enemy.aura(Unholy Ascension:320).exists & self(#1).active]
ability(Black Claw:919) [!enemy.aura(Black Claw:918).exists]
ability(Hunting Party:921)
ability(Flock:581)
change(next)

Fixed script. It was oriented to Haunt while rematch team was with Unholy Ascension.

ability(218) [enemy.round=1]
quit [!enemy.aura(217).exists & self(#1).active]
ability(321) [enemy.round=2]
quit [!enemy.aura(320).exists & self(#1).active]
change(#2) [self(#1).dead]
ability(919) [!enemy.aura(918).exists]
ability(581)

Still not working. It just abandons after the Ascension now

d00mw01f wrote on 2017-08-19 10:03:45

Maybe it abandons if ascension was missed?

OdinsV wrote on 2017-09-04 22:36:16

This worked for me. Well, it did not work killing him, but stopped abandoning all the time even with Curse of Doom hit. Anonymous post on 09/04/2017, using Nexus Whelping, was the way I had to finish off this fight.

Jess wrote on 2017-10-12 03:19:24

This worked fine for me. I hit with both Curse of Doom and Ascension on the first try, so i dont know if it abandons automatically if it fails. The script we are directed to use auto abandons after the first turn though, regardless of hit or miss.

katiefraggle

wrote on 2017-11-06 22:41:34

Script is good. Works well. I have 2 ikkys as well on this. The script will auto exit after round one if Curse of Doom fails to hit and will auto exit if Assent ion fails. this is keeping with the original strat. My suggestion is 2 ikkys so that the script doesn't break for this strat. =)

Still abandoning? Try this:

quit
endif
ability(321) [enemy.round=2]
if [!enemy.aura(320).exists & self(#1).active]
quit

change(#2) [self(#1).dead]
ability(919) [!enemy.aura(918).exists]
ability(581)

25% Chance to dodge my ass, it's higher than that. I had to restart this fight over a dozen times just to get two consecutive hits. I wish Blizzard would use their heads to design pet battle encounters rather than just leaving it up to RNG. It's not fun, engaging gameplay, it's a frustrating pain in the ass - like the Tanaan battles - one bad die roll and you're done.

TheGrandmaGamer wrote on 2018-04-10 05:04:11

He dodged my first Black Claw so I just threw it again. This put me a round behind and my Anklerender died before Leap, but I brought my Kneebiter in and cast Hunting Party to take advantage of the double damage plus the last round of Black Claw. The Kneebiter's 2nd round of Hunting Party (without a Black claw buff) won the battle. 3rd pet is a great backup but not needed this time. Good Strat!

Eekwibble

wrote on 2018-05-02 01:18:14

@Mrdudez; I know the strat can work like a charm without the 3rd pet being needed but the TDScript has all the NW's spells in it but no way to change to it, and, it is, on very rare occasions, needed.
Just add 'change(#3)' at the bottom and it's great.

I found using Ikky in the second slot I had a much higher fail rate. I used Zandalari Anklerender (Ikky in the third because once I had to use him) and I have only needed to restart a few times over all of my alts. Good Luck!!

Gatekus wrote on 2017-11-06 18:18:36

Thank you for posting this. This was a very frustrating fight. Lil'idan's buff is more accurately between 33% and 50%; I had to restart three times just to land two consecutive hits. Even then, Ikky was only able to land one Black Claw and zero Flocks before being critically hit to death by Lil'idan. I am convinced Blizzard lies about the buff percentages for their elite pets, but that is another topic. Suffice to say with the strategy posted here I was able to succeed.

Zarria wrote on 2017-11-06 07:36:40

TSP wrote on 2017-10-12 12:44:58

Does this pet battle worth leveling pets with?

Kathleene wrote on 2017-10-12 15:40:26

IMHO, if you're looking for XP, you'd be better off going with Alt #2 and the pups (see my post under that strategy). I tried several times to get a leveling pet to work on this guy without success. Firstly, he kept dodging my critical attacks (critical as in highly important, not as in "crits"). Secondly, he kept killing my pets waaay too quickly. I finally won with a L24 pet on the team, but I was so focused on taking Lil'idan down that I hadn't paid enough attention to CoD's countdown. Lil'idan dropped dead before I could get my leveling pet in for a round. :(

I'm sure that other folks are still working on a leveling strategy with this team, and I'm sure that someone will come up with one - a lot of bright, dedicated folks here.

Seagoon wrote on 2017-10-18 18:00:55

Not worth using a leveling pet. My lvl 1 only received ~440 xp, even with Safari Hat and Pet Treat buffs. Ikky died in the same round that Curse of Doom hit (killing Lil'idan), so my lvl 1 got all the xp. Pure luck really.

Dohram wrote on 2017-06-11 21:40:56

perveneficus wrote on 2017-06-12 01:29:30

Kathleene wrote on 2017-09-09 13:01:52

I just wanted to mention that it's still possible to win this, even if your Unholy Ascension misses. After restarting several times due to Curse of Doom missing, I decided to go ahead with the battle when CoD stuck even though UA didn't. Ikky went down pretty quickly, but I had a Level 21 Zandalari Anklerender as the third pet. He managed to finish taking Lil'Dan down with his Black Claw and Hunting Party. As always, thanks to the folks here for the great strategies.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-04 17:15:20

I used alternative number 1 with my third pet being the nexus whelping and while unborn and inky were toasted using arcane storm and mana surge toasted lil'idan

Kreggy wrote on 2017-08-16 07:24:52

I tinkered about with the infected Squirrel as 2nd lvl 25. I found that you can put a lvling pet in slot one and use the unborn Val'kyr and infected squirrel in slots 2 and 3 respectively. It didnt give that much exp. on a lvl 5 - 385 xp. I also tested the squirrel using both 2, 1, 2 (didnt use corpse exposion on this variant) and also on 1,2, 2 both worked well.

The variant that worked best for me was lvl pet (either attack or pass) then swap for val'kyr who then uses CoD, Haunt, then bring in the squirrel and use rabid strike followed by stampede.

I then tested without trying to lvl a pet and either variant of val'kyr Cod, Haunt followed by the infected squirrel attacks of Rabid Strike, stampede or creeping fungus, Diseased bite, corpse explosion worked but the first variant was faster.

Nalli wrote on 2017-08-17 03:06:38

Lil'idan tends to dodge the 1st attack so the level pet works well. I used a Grumpy just now and used one attack, swapped so he did not get the 4 rd debuff (which killed him on the backline) went with above strat, except did CoD, Shadow Slash, then Unholy Ascension...it missed, but used UA again during Undead phase which left enough time for Ikky to get the Black claw in before CoD goes Boom!..., then Flock finishes him off.

ßenehime wrote on 2017-06-12 02:20:29

iGy wrote on 2017-02-17 09:42:59

Doom / Agony from Crawling Claw and Black Claw / Hunting Party from Zandalari Anklerender works. You can use any third or a random pet with undead moves for extra damage

Anonymous wrote on 2017-01-19 16:38:08

Oh please just change this to Zandalari Anklerender. Ikky can't take this.

Cohibadad wrote on 2017-02-13 19:21:03

P/P Anklerender or Kneebiter instead of Ikky wins before COD can go off.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-02-17 08:56:00

And any S breed is always faster, as opposed to Ikky who stops being faster after being hit once. Zandalari seems a lot better overall.

But this is a really stupid, frustrating, RNG-y fight either way. Not sure who designed this one.

Since the patch, this doesn't seem to work any longer.

Celthil wrote on 2016-12-21 03:42:56

Much more reliable is use 2 zands with black claw and hunting party + ikky just black claw flock/hunting party with each. Alot less restarting.

Tyrsa wrote on 2017-01-06 11:11:36

Yep, Celthil's strat works great. Did a Anklerender/Ikky/Kneebiter combo and never needed the Knee. Ankle did Black Claw/Hunting Party/Black Claw, died, and Ikky's Flock finished him.

Satyr wrote on 2017-01-12 14:53:33

Yeah, something must've changed. Ran this twice in a row and he ran through all 3 before he was down to 25%.

On the brighter side, Xu-Fu's strategy above worked wonderfully on the first try thereafter.

Faythe wrote on 2017-01-12 10:46:29

Yeah I was fighting him with this combo and even if the CoD and UA hit he dodged the damage CoD did 8 times in a row.

Vinsanity wrote on 2017-01-12 08:24:59

I also had very bad RNG with this #1 tactics here. The problem is that even if he doesn't dodge the doom and scension combo, he can still dodge the doom's damage 4 turns later making it VERY rng dependant. Tried the 2 zandalari + Ikky combo with black claw + huntingparty/flock. That worked 1st try.

Anonymous wrote on 2016-12-13 15:23:24

This just doesn't work. 5 tries in a row. Six now. Seven. Eight. Zandalari Anklerender works. Ikky doesn't.

Ori wrote on 2016-12-14 15:16:14

It works perfectly, instead my Ikky has no time to do Flock because a critic, Curse of Doom did all work :)

Peg wrote on 2017-01-06 12:03:10

Ikky dies, but so does Lil'din when I've done this, leaving all the xp to the leveling pet.

Hoturi wrote on 2017-01-12 06:51:02

I also think that Zandalari Raptors are more reliable as they only get weak attacks and survive longer.

thebl4ckd0g wrote on 2017-01-06 23:59:54

not sure if they changed something, but this has become WAY more RNG dependent. Than previously, for the 1st strat. Also instead of an "Any Pet" For 3rd, it needs to be another pet similar to Ikky or something that can take him out. His beam took out my Ikky before he could get off his 2nd flock. Luckily I took him out with my 3rd lvl 25 pet, but just barely.

Sloober wrote on 2017-01-06 13:37:57

Morbink wrote on 2016-12-20 18:28:30

Few times didnt work due to dodging everything, but then managed to kill him like this with those 2 pets in 6 rounds.

Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling

Flyby -> Thunderbolt -> Explode

Darkmoon Zeppelin

Flyby -> Thunderbolt -> Explode

Had Nexus Whelpling as 3rd pet to finish with Arcane Storm -> Mana Surge

but would probably be wise to use some undead pet like Bone Serpent.

I just wanted to test this idea, and im pretty happy with results (still RNG, like every tactic for thsi fight right?)

my explodes did +- 2 x 620 dmg, Thunderbolts 610 and 604

PS: i know that Flyby doesnt increase Explode damage, before some1 write that, it was for Thunderbolts.

PS2: if u use 1 of pets that can buff up to have 125 % hit does it matter here?? If yes, that might be the best strat ;)

Ok.. Have about 12/16 tries now. Or how many times he was up the last 2/3 weeks. It is more or less working with Unborn/2x Zandalari ... In all these tries Lillidan NEVER ever dodged curse of doom damage... Just until today... Cant believe whats happening.

Magibeard wrote on 2016-11-18 07:23:10

I had significantly better luck using the Zandalari Raptors as my two Stampede/Flock/Hunting Party pets vs Ikky. Yes, they're slower, but they take reduced damage from Eye Beams.

Findmestuff wrote on 2016-12-08 12:29:09

I had the same thought. Brought both the Anklerender and the Kneebiter. I only used one and the fight was over very quickly.

Unborn Valk - Curse of Doom
Unholy Ascension
Zandalari Anklerender - Black Claw
Hunting Party

That's all I had to use.

I used zandalari Anklerender (P/S) (2, 2, 2). Like SaintGabriel said, you have to let COD and UA hit, and this is easy. Make sure to use black claw before Hunting party, and you have an easy fight.

XP for this fight is only about 200, so don't bother trying to level a pet.

Anonymous wrote on 2016-12-08 19:00:51

This strat should be removed from the primary position, the pup strat is far superior.

Gingerscream wrote on 2016-12-08 20:58:03

Yes and no. This strat is good IF you do not have max lvl pups.

Lainya wrote on 2016-12-08 12:32:45

I used Macabre Marionette (2/2/1, although only the third ability really counts) as my third pet. Even though every attempt Ikky made to put Black Claw on Lil'idan failed, Dead Man's Party is an undead version of Stampede, making it strong enough against Lil'idan that it finished him off by the third wave (despite Lil'idan dodging about a quarter of Macabre Marionette's hits).

Lyta wrote on 2016-12-08 16:36:03

yes adding marionette with dead man's party worked out if illian crits ikky

Poochi wrote on 2016-12-08 16:31:52

This fight is so RNG heavy it's stupid. After several tries I just brought in Xu-Fu as third back up. Had to Black Claw like three times and then Icky Died...a lucky moon fire, spirit claws killed him.

Saintgabrial wrote on 2016-12-02 22:57:09

I see a few of you are having trouble with this stratagy, so I and my kids tested this out tonight. 16 tries total with 11 characters with 5 resets due to skills not conecting or Lil'idan getting a good critical hit in on our pets. Each time we did this 6 without Black Claw and 5 with Black Claw it worked perfectly each time.

I'm guessing the problem comes in were your not making sure Curse of Doom, Unholy Ascension are connecting. They all have to connect for this strategy to work.

We also used the two breeds B/B and H/H that Unborn Val'Kyr can come in. 6 H/H without Black claw and 5 B/B with Black claw. Ikky only comes in P/S.

We did not test this with other Pets that have a Stampede, Flock, swarm or puppy parade. We'll test a few of those tomorrow. I want to see if they could do better.

Saintgabrial wrote on 2016-12-02 23:09:05

I also want to note that this fight gives a super small amount of EXP so using a level pet would be a wast of time. So if it helps to use a 3rd level 25 pet you could do that.

Saintgabrial wrote on 2016-12-03 00:19:45

Humm! Just did another one on another account, it has one lvl 110 character so could only do it once.

Used H/H Unborn Val'Kyr and Ikky with no Black Claw. Ikky died and Lil'idan had just over 300HP left. So I was forced to use the 3rd pet. It was Feline Familiar level 21 and just needed 66 EXP till level and gained 270 EXP from the fight and leveled. So I'd make sure to use Black Claw just in case Ikky can't do the job. Or just use the 3rd pet. Lets add Black Claw to the rotation.

dd wrote on 2016-12-02 21:05:31

not enough damage without black claw. use it before flock.

lol, sorry but... wrote on 2016-12-02 18:18:05

the 1st strategy dont have any way to work, tryed like 7 or 8 times included the ones that failed bc he dodge at the begin steps :S:S maybe it have chances to work, but any other strategy on this website used to work at most in 3 or 4 tryes, mostly at 1st or 2nd :S:S
great website anyway, ty for all ur work :)

Sefer wrote on 2016-12-02 05:32:03

Had enough tries due to 4 chars (so not only 4^^). He definitely by 100% doesn't die by this combo. Used two Zandalari and hoped for the best.

There's no way to dodge the RNG on this one.

Lil'idan has a 25% chance to dodge everything, even Unholy Ascension.

Worst case is you use a H/H Valk (1806) health. Its CoD will hit for 888, doubled to 1776 with the Shattered Defenses debuff. Lil'idan has 2416 HP, so that leaves 640 damage to be done by other means. Lil'idan also gains 116 HP each round he attacks. If you have a B/B Valk, its CoD will do 96 more damage. The difference is not huge. If you also get Unholy Ascension up, Lil'idan is guaranteed to die when the CoD hits under Shattered Defenses.

Because of the 25% buff from Murkmorphosis, Lil'idan's Eye Beam hits for 409*1.25 = 512, but he also has a 25% increased Crit chance, so you approach a 1 in 3 chance to be crit with each of his Eye Beams.

We want to get that Shattered Defenses on, and either have Unholy Ascension up, or do over 600 damage before the CoD strikes.

This strat says to abandon if either CoD or UA misses. Given that, any pet with Flock or Stampede will kill Lil'idan unless he dodges all of the Stampede hits, or the CoD. (I didn't know he could Dodge CoD once it was applied - thanks, Sethkaan. I just ran 8 tests and he never dodged it for me.)

Lil'idan's speed is 297. Ikky has the advantage of going first. A Zandalari Anklerender or Kneebiter with a speed > 297 and Hunting Party will also go first, but also won't lose their speed advantage at any point, and will take weak damage from Eye Beam, so can take even three Crits without dying. Even without the speed advantage, any Anklerender or Kneebiter will do to replace Ikky.

As really bad luck protection, I'd go for another Beast with Hunting Party or a Bone Serpent in the third slot.

Sefer wrote on 2016-12-02 05:24:17

B/B Valk doesn't work either. He survived. Third pet wasn't able to land a single blow out of 5 attacks... 25% more like 100%

Lemara wrote on 2016-11-17 15:13:04

So i was trying to use my Snowfeather so i started from scratch and went with my Bone Serpent 1,2,1, Snowfeather Hatchling 1,2,1, and my Lesser Void Caller. Started with call darkness, then hit nocturnal strike (which always hits if target is blinded and did indeed hit for me here) then Bone Barrage, swaped in my Snowfeather hit Falcoursaur Swarm! and Illian dies. Be curious to see if this works again or if anyone can test it out. anyways hope it helps : ) happy playing : )

Relics wrote on 2016-11-18 03:38:03

I was having trouble with a flying type being the target for those beams. So i changed Ikky for Lil' Bling and used his Inflation, then he dies but comes back for 1 more round, and finished using Make it Rain. Hope this helps someone!

Anonymous wrote on 2016-11-18 00:22:27

Would highly recommend a second Flock/Stampede pet. Possibly very bad RnG, but my Ikky would only ever last 2 rounds. On the second eye beam Ikky loses the flying bonus speed because it's health falls under half, and the next eye beam kills it before the 3rd Flock can land. If he dodges the DoT tick though, it's best to just forfeit, bandage, and try again from the top.

Olania wrote on 2016-10-17 23:54:26

I would advise bringing a second pet with flock, as the little prick double crit Ikky and killed him in two hits - leaving me to restart the fight because I had just thrown any random pet into the third slot.

Drakuul wrote on 2016-10-09 03:29:07

Just use unborn curse of doom and then ascension have to zandalarie anklebiter and footslasher easily destroys him

Thorsbain wrote on 2016-10-09 03:45:26

This is def. the way to go. Use unborn (curse/ascension) then zand. anklebiter (blk claw/hunting). I had zand. Kneebiter in reserve but never needed it. Ankle ended with half health.

That... kind of... is exactly the strategy listed here? Or am I missing something here? It even says you can use any pet with Stampede / Flock or similar :S

Anonymous wrote on 2016-10-10 06:14:13

Wow i had some bad rng on this took like 7 trys before it worked

Naraine wrote on 2016-10-09 03:52:25

1/2/2 Val'kyr + Zandalari Anklerender 2/2/2 worked just fine for me. He didn't evade any of the attacks tho. Curse of Doom + Unholy Ascension then Hunting Party into Primal Cry, then Curse of Doom procced and killed him.

Shavai wrote on 2016-10-10 05:45:16

Used Unborn Val'kyr 1/2/2 + Zandalari Anklerender 2/2/2. Val'kyr Curse of Doom took, Unholy Ascension was dodged. Brought in Anklerender, Black Claw then Hunting Party (can't remember if I did one or two courses of Black Claw and Hunting Party, but if one doesn't do it, do that pair of attacks again). Curse of Doom went off and he was dead. Quick and Easy.

Ectothrix wrote on 2016-10-09 21:31:09

wrote on 2016-10-09 00:05:16

Ah... super bad luck, if he gets in 2 crits and your Flock does not hit six times in a row. That must be a lower than 0.5% chance for it to happen. :/

Elphaeba wrote on 2016-10-09 00:10:37

May have been similar to what i had happening he kept dodging the curse of dooms effect. I fixed by having a 2nd zandalari and then using claw so it was full on stacks, hunting party and a final bloodfang bite.

Anonymous wrote on 2016-10-09 01:54:52

I got all 6 hits and it still had a little life left. Maybe breed on the valkyr?

Anyway, add a hunting party pet or do a black claw first and it seems to work that way.

Vish Kal wrote on 2016-10-09 05:11:00

For me the 2nd hit from the eye beam even with no crits would knock ikky's health below 50%, so he'd get to go first on the third turn, which effectively let him hit twice in a row and kill ikky before the 3rd turn of flock. An S/S anklerender/kneebiter did the job better. Bringing a 2nd pet with hunting party/flock etc. in the 3rd pet slot would probably make this strategy pretty foolproof.

Sethkaan on Shu'Halo wrote on 2016-10-09 05:48:49

I also want to point out that Curse has 2 chances to miss, once when applied, and once when it procs, i've failed 4 times in a row because the curse proc deals 0 damage.

Anonymous wrote on 2016-10-09 01:06:24

I just used unborn for dmg the whole time because Ikky died after i got blackclaw off over and over and over. I think I went through 8 bandages. I just used curse of doom, black claw, shadow slash, shadow slash, shado....dead. i win!

Terrifying wrote on 2016-10-09 03:42:24

When using Ikky or Zandalari it does not say to use Blackclaw. If you use Blackclaw your pet will die from the extra hit.
