I took the liberty to add Sanayrin strategy (from the first comments) as I missed 1 pet from other strategies and it worked for me ! It was close, but it did the job !

Whomper is added ... when i wrote this up Whomper was not in the list so the 2nd box was blank... not any more :-)
my Coldlight Surfrunner was P/S Breed and my Grumpling was P/B Breed. it's not a perfect strategy but i was able to do this strategy a more than a dozen times in a row successfully. just when you think it is going to fail, it works, then another day i tried this again, it repeatedly failed, and after several fails i was able once again to get it to work a dozen times in a row... strange, dern that RNG LoL Good luck! *feedback appreciated |

You specified exactly where in the battle you had the problem, and what breed you were using, and that enabled me to figure out what was going on.
So I checked it out.
My actual battle went very badly, because of not one but two misses in Sandstorm, which is an inbuilt RNG when you choose to use it. But I got to the critical point, where the Runt is using Frost Shock.
After being Frost Shocked, Mind Warper's speed is 256. You really, really want your Runt to be faster at that point, since in almost any battle it will be low on health, so getting in that Deep Freeze+Takedown combo may well rely on not taking a hit.
The Runt's breed speeds are:
P/P: 244
P/B: 257
P/S: 273
I think a P/P has a good chance to fail, since MW will surely get one hit in during those rounds if faster.
So yes, I think a breed restriction here is indicated - or a speed requirement to be greater than 256.
P.S. Just finished the battle. Lost by a hair. I might have won if not for those earlier Sandstorm misses, (edited)
