Low XP
Breed
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.

I one-shot this without needing the third pet or using Dive (as suggested by older comments).

I agree. Adding in Dives while Foulclaw is blocking your damage lets your pets avoid enough damage to stay alive. I failed multiple times while using only Screech and Gnaw, but killed Foulclaw on the first try while following the rotation in this Wowhead comment.

Missdirect wrote on 2017-10-01 13:57:58

Hi, so I found this strat by someone named Sellys on Warcraft Pets. https://www.warcraftpets.com/community/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17215

I could NOT get 3 civet/mongoose, etc to work but this worked within 2 tries. Still RNG dependant but amazing compared to throwing myself against cower over and over.

"Start with an S/B civet/mongoose of some sort. It should have 1465 health, 273 power, and 289 speed. Abilities should be Gnaw, Screech, and Dive. You're going to want a second one of these as well, and for your third pet it should be a P/P Emperor Crab with Snap/Healing Wave/Shell Shield. Renewing mists I think works just as well.
Round 1: Screech.
Round 2: Gnaw
Round 3: Gnaw
Round 4: Gnaw or pass or screech. W/e it's not going to do anything anyway.
Round 5: Dive.
Round 6: finish Dive. The speed reduction will have ended after round 5, so you'll still be diving and avoid both the round 5 and 6 flurry.
Round 7: Screech. This is where RNG becomes to rear it's head. You NEED this screech. You'll have been attacked in Rounds 2,4,7 and can survive 5 hits. If he ends up hitting you twice in round 2 or 4 and 3 times in round 7 or twice in each round you're dead and you may as well restart.
Round 8: Gnaw. He'll flurry and finish you off.
Round 9: Gnaw with your 2nd S/B mongoose type.
Round 10: Pass.
Round 11: Dive
Round 12: Finish Dive. Again the speed reduction will have worn off and you'll avoid both Round 11 and 12 flurries.
Round 13: Screech. There shouldn't be much RNG here, unless you got super unlucky and got hit 2 in round 10 and 3 times in round 13 with one of those 5 hits being a crit.
Round 14: Gnaw. You'll die here.
Round 15: Bring in the P/P crab and shell shield. He'll cower.
Round 16: Either renewing mists, or pass if you went with Healing Wave.
Round 17: Renewing Mists or Healing Wave.
Round 18: Renewing Mists or nothing.
Round 19: CLAW. Rawr. You should be able to survive 10 hits over the four rounds. If he gets lucky and triple hits you three times or crits one of his 10 hits, that is the poop."

I don't want to steal this person's work but this strat is legit and the only thing I could get to work without a gulp frog.

I had to use an S/S for the first, but this worked great! Thanks for sharing

Nivek wrote on 2017-10-11 02:17:22

I had tried this fight 50 times, several different strategies. I finally went and got my P/P Emperor Crab and a S/B Golden Civet Kitten. I got super lucky and killed him before my Crab even came in. Last fight for my Family Fighter achievement. Strategy works, still RNG though.

Breezie wrote on 2017-10-31 20:46:56

Moonraven wrote on 2018-02-09 03:49:59

I'd lost the will to live trying with 3 otters over and over as I don't have the Gulp Froglet. The difference with this strat is the explanation. I succeeded 1st try and I can't thank you enough for removing the pain of this fight for me :D xx

Although it can depend on RNG, this is still a pretty solid strat for no gulp froglet. I had to forfeit my first try due to poor luck with dying on round 6 but got it on the second try.

Fen Crab: 1,1,2

Lightning, Whirlpool, Die
Swarm

rng on lightning could make this fail

Zarria wrote on 2017-10-17 15:33:56

This didn't work at all. Even if you survive the rng on lightning, the swarm doesn;t do dmg at all lol

KLyon wrote on 2017-12-20 04:24:26

Has something changed with this fight? I don't have a Gulp Froglet (camped it for hours, have about 20 kills, no pet) so I'vet tried the strats without it BUT the count is off on EVERY strat. I have used the breeds suggested, yet nearly every pet dies the round before the strats claim it will die. Giving up on this for now as it's currently unwinnable. Should have spent the time camping the stupid Gulp Froglet than waste time on this battle.

Nalli wrote on 2017-12-19 20:57:14

Gulp Froglet (1,2,2), Coralback Fiddler (1,1,2), Zangar Crawler (1,1,2)...Started with Gulp strat from Seth (Toxic Skin, WaterJet x2, and Corpse Explosion) Frog dies, brought in Coralback Fiddler, Rip (got blocked), Fiddler died, brought in Zangar Crawler, Rip, Blood in the Water, Foulclaw dies from poison...maybe I got lucky, but who cares, Aquatics out of the way :P

Tatahe wrote on 2017-08-30 18:33:16

I made this start works consistently (ish). The trick is the HP of pets. All pets needs to be 289+ speed but put your HIGHEST HP pet as first one and your LOWEST HP pet as second.

You just need to avoid unlucky crits or triple hits during first pet, the rest is free. YOU DON'T NEED TO CRIT AT ALL.

Open with Screech 2x Gnaw Pass Dive Screech Gnaw. If your first pet dies before this just restart, it's like 20% chance to fail.

After that it's easy, gnaw if you are attacking first, pass if shield is up, Screech when shield is down and you are attacking second & dive when speed debuff has 1 round left. GG

Fysm wrote on 2017-08-30 22:11:44

After a lot of pulls I came to the conclusion that it's like a 20% chance that it works.

Tatahe wrote on 2017-08-31 21:06:05

In first pet, depending on your pet HP you need to win 1/3 50/50 or 2/3 50/50. Not counting crits, so if you have a high HP pet on first slot it's 66% success rate - crits (idk crit chance)

Attrition Based Fight:

Gulp Froglet (B/B) na,2,2
Leviathan hatchling (P/B) na,1,na
Hydraling (P/B) 1,2,1

Start with Gulp: Toxic Skin -> Corpse Explosion
Bring in Leviathan: Toxic Skin -> pass -> pass (must be dead on round 2)
Finally the Hydraling: Shell Armor (reduces attack ~250, so you're hit about 50 x 3)
then Swallow you Whole x2, and your opponent is UNDER 25% health so you hit for double, so about 300 each time. he should have just over 300 the first swallow.

Illana

wrote on 2017-11-11 06:06:09

I tweaked this a bit since I didn't have a Hydraling. Decided to add the Whirlpool mentioned by Snowy6 to the rotation, because why not?

Gulp Froglet (P/H) 1/2/2
Leviathan Hatchling (P/P) 1/1/1
Golden Civet (S/S/S) 2/1/2

Started with the Gulp, as shown above: Toxic Skin -> Corpse Explosion
Bring in Leviathan: Toxic Skin -> Pass -> Whirlpool (Dead)
Then the Golden Civet: Screech -> Gnaw (if it's not dead already)

The first time I did this I did whirlpool and THEN pass, so his Crouch blocked the whirlpool, but Screech and then Gnaw still was able to finish him off. When I tested it again I did pass THEN Whirlpool and Foulclaw died to the Whirlpool after Screech and I didn't need to Gnaw.

Grim wrote on 2017-09-10 15:45:38

This isn't working at all for me. His crouch is working as a 100% damage reduction for 3 rounds and he's just eating though my team in that time.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-11 02:44:00

i hear you, MOST frustrating pet fight i have had to endure. Foulclaw puts his crouch on and blocks EVERY hit ......its not like he already has 75% damage reduction buff or anythign but now it must block every hit as well?? Im confused, if you didnt want him to beat us Blizzard then why didnt you make his health higher or make him hit harder.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-17 20:12:37

This Otter/Mongoose/Civet strategy CAN work but you need to refresh Screech just before he casts Crouch. So in the turns with 19, 13, 7 rounds left on Greater Apocalypse, make sure you refresh Screech no matter what its duration is. Also choose Dive, not Surge - and use Dive during any of the turns that Crouch is active (does no damage but you basically dodge one round).

Takes some decent RNG, but seems to work maybe 50% of the time

Anonymous wrote on 2017-08-31 00:04:58

when Foulclaw is crouched everything misses....50% yeah right more like 100%

Amethice wrote on 2017-08-31 16:36:08

This is because Foulclaw's Boss ability gives 50% damage reduction. Crouch gives 50%, and these are additive rather than multiplicative, meaning 100% damage reduction rather than 75%.

dgnuff wrote on 2017-09-11 01:02:19

If that's the case, explain how Ikky or an Anklerender can hit him through crouch.

strumpett wrote on 2017-09-02 23:23:07

perfect first time thanks

GnuclearGnome wrote on 2017-09-02 16:06:54

As a refinement of this strat, take Dive in the third slot instead of Surge as shown at the top. When Foulclaw pops his Crouch, Dive and his next two attacks will miss you while you're waiting for Crouch to end.

Seth wrote on 2017-09-01 23:55:35

Gulp Froglet (1, 2, 2), Leviathan Hatchling(1, 1, 2) and any turtle with Headbutt and Bite. Use Toxic Skin, Water Jet 2x and Corpse Explosion, if he didn't kill you yet. Change to the Leviathan, Use Toxic Skin, Tail Slap until he kills you and finish with the turtle, the debuffs from Toxic Skin and Corpse Explosion do most of the damage for you. Credit to Dornelles from on wowhead.

Rayvynn wrote on 2017-09-02 09:24:32

worked perfectly first time...thank you

PROFESSORLABCOAT wrote on 2017-08-30 17:36:09

I beat this with Gulp Froglet (1/2/1), Snarly (1/1/2), and any Aquatic with Surge in the third slot. Turn 1 use Toxic Skin, then Swarm until Gulp Froglet dies. Send in Snarly (there should be 1 round of both Crouch and Shattered Defenses left here) and use Rip, then Blood in the Water, then Surge before dying. You may need to restart here if Foulclaw gets multiple 3 hit Flurries. Otherwise, he should be at around 100-50 HP or so, letting you finish the fight with another Surge from your third pet. Snarly could also probably be replaced with Chuck/Muckbreath/Toothy as well since they have the same moveset, but I only had the one pet levelled.

Ziv wrote on 2017-08-30 18:42:13

Worked great! Tried about 8 times with the above posted team, couldn't get it to work for me.

Blurredout wrote on 2017-08-30 19:29:15

Freaking RNG took out my Snarly 10 times before I managed to get this to work

Tarelgeth wrote on 2017-08-31 00:08:44

I used a combination of the above strats. Start with Gulp Froglet. Toxic Skin, then Swarm until dead. Once dead, switch to the otters. Screech, and unload with Gnaw repeatedly. I didn't need a second Screech, though it did kill my first otter.

Nuriana wrote on 2017-08-31 04:04:27

Rifkin wrote on 2017-08-31 06:45:31

Didn't have a Gulp Froglet leveled yet and really didn't want to use upgrade stones if I didn't have to. Tried all the combos I could think of and more. In the end, upgraded him and got it first shot

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-01 17:35:52

This worked well, but would be a bit rng dependent depending on how many scratches he got off on your snarly.

Sella wrote on 2017-09-02 08:52:35

Zandalari Kneebiter - I don't know how the breeds work, wow classes him as Rare Power. I went Black Claw, Hunting Party and then Leap. I'm not even certain Leap hit as I wasn't paying attention properly, I blinked and he (Foulclaw) was dead

I used a P/S Mongoose which helped with extra damage on the Gnaw.

Lazey wrote on 2017-08-29 17:48:06

You are right, on PTR Foulclaw was using Crouch and combined with the boss passive this lead to 100% damage reduce (not immunity) for 3 turns. Blizzard decided this could be way too difficult and replaced Crouch with Comeback and I made all my teams/guides/scripts for Comeback.

2 days before the release I realized that they reverted that change and was hoping this was not intended, but it looks like they put that Crouch on live servers and so all 10 strats are outdated, sorry.
