Substitutes:

Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

Low XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!

Retch (4)::111814E:122C11H:121416A:

Kun-Lai Runt (Mangle, Rampage), Terky (Lucky Dance, Stampede) - DONE :).
If you are unlucky you could use Lil' Bad Wolf in slot 3 with Howl and Claw. Never needed that though :)

Only way I got this to work(SL pre-patch) was to NOT use lucky dance. Terky died every single time when he used it.

If you don't have Hogs, you can use Squirty (abilities 2-2-2) Turn1-Fish Slap, 2-Bubble, 3- Stampede. He dies but will still have it set up for Flayer to do double damage with Rampage.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-23 12:22:55

I don't have Hogs, so I used Bonkers (2,2,1) after Terky. Haymaker, bite, bite and Retch was dead :).

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-29 20:51:09

This worked for me but I still needed the flayer to finsh Retch.

Yeah! worked perfectly. Well, i think i was lucky. I killed retch with just 1 bite :D

DragonsAfterDark

wrote on 2019-11-06 13:20:53

I've found that using Acid Touch on round 1 with Squirky, and then Stampede until dead worked much better for getting Retch's hp down a fair bit before Hogs comes in. At that point, I only needed Headbutt > Bite to finish off Retch.

Here's a script for this variation:

ability(#2) [round=1]
ability(Bite:110) [enemy.hp<250]
ability(#3)
ability(Stampede:163)
ability(#1)
change(next)

It still accounts for all the moves in the above strat, just in case.

I've also added a script to the above strat. If you want to stick to the above strat, but would rather use Acid Touch, the script accounts for this variation.

similarly due to pure idiocy the strat is easily done with terky as above then skip to rampage (missed reading a line in the wee hours of the morning. Not sure how much xp the strat would give with a level pet, but seems viable :)

Kun Lai Runt mangle Takedown Rampage
Terky Luckydance Stampede
Any: clean up if not already dead

Kun Lai Runt: Mangle, Takedown, Rampage
Squirky: Bubble, Stampede, Punch
Any Humanoid: Standard Attack if necessary.

Askania

wrote on 2018-01-06 01:10:32

Killed him with Terky and Hogs

Turn 1 - Punch
Turn 2 - Acid Touch
Turn 3 to 5 - Stampede
Turn 6 if Terky still alive just pass otherwise Headbutt with Hogs
Turn 7 - Headbutt or Stampede
Retch is dead and my Hogs survived.

Kathleene wrote on 2017-10-23 21:33:16

It's not pretty or creative, but my three Flayer Younglings took him out using Rampage.

Brizz wrote on 2017-10-11 14:10:29

Didn't have Hogs so I tried Kun-Lai Runt instead using Thrash then Rampage and it worked very well for me.

Safia wrote on 2017-10-17 06:08:17

This worked great for me as well, since didn't have Hogs either.

Nalli wrote on 2017-10-11 20:29:36

I used a Squirky (1,2,2) B/B Breed ...Punch, Bubble, and Stampede in that order, Stampede until dead and follow strat above.

Shaelai wrote on 2017-09-03 23:03:25

From Gamerunknown on Wowhead:
Kun-Lai Runt (111): Mangle, Rampage.
Flayer Youngling (222): Rampage, Triple Snap (if alive).
Anubisath (111): Sandstorm, Crush.

IllyiaRose wrote on 2017-09-27 13:01:26

This worked great! Was able to sneak a Thrash in beefore Kun-Lai Runt died. My Flayer Youngling finished the fight. Thanks Shaelai for looking that up! :)

Yewfire wrote on 2017-09-11 02:14:48

I subsituted CURIOUS WOLVAR PUP (2,2,2) for HOGS. Maul, then Bite ftw.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-12 13:41:48

excellet sub! Thank you. =)

Anonymous wrote on 2017-09-13 00:02:18

Another upvote for the Wolvar substitution.

Corgi wrote on 2017-09-20 12:40:03

Me three, or... um, four? The Wolvar finished him off quickly.

DJ wrote on 2017-09-04 14:10:36

Do not stampede with Hogs. Just bite until you win (if you don't get get attacked with a crit offc).

FlibbitSC wrote on 2017-09-04 14:35:39

I still did the headbutt (740 damage), then one bite - agreed that it works better than Stampede and the need for a 3rd pet.

AusChameleon wrote on 2017-09-07 05:03:47

Agree - after headbut only needed one bite and done. No third pet.

Mnejing wrote on 2017-09-12 22:51:15

Definitely just do Headbutt and then spam Bite. Using Stampede with Hogs can result in failure.

Rajvosa wrote on 2017-09-02 08:10:11

If you don't have Hogs, use Direhorn Runt with Trample and Stampede.

WiredTexan wrote on 2017-09-04 13:56:22

This post is for the Humanoid Havoc strat, Direhorn is not humanoid

Vij wrote on 2017-08-31 09:43:20

Worked well for me, Hogs got a crit in though!

Jangeoffry wrote on 2017-08-29 21:32:55

Done with 2 pets (a third would save in case of crit)
Kun-Lai Runt (1,1,1)
Hogs (2,1,1)
Turn 1 - Mangle
Turns 2-4 - Rampage
Turn 5 - Pass (Kun-Lai Runt dies)
Bring Hogs
Turns 1-3 Stampede
In case Hogs also dies, bring a third humanoid with solid attack (Retch would be about to die)

Auroya wrote on 2017-08-30 10:39:10

Managed to get a Thrash out with the Kun Lai Runt before it died, which helped me to not need a 3rd pet :) Thx for strat! I still don't have Terky yet...
