COMPETITIONS - BY ARANESH
Our Treasure Hunt turned out really cool but the leaderboard has some fundamental flaws - as everyone playing it probably knows. Perfect opportunity to test a new feature here: polls!
Please help us to decide how to move forward with the Treasure Hunt by casting your vote:

Poll: Which direction should the Treasure Hunt take?
The leaderboard aspect of the Treasure Hunt is not working due to it being largely impossible to hide coins. With a few weeks to go, we have a few options. Which of these do you prefer?
Final results:
➜ Keep the game unchanged (15)
Only minor balancing changes, but the PvP element with leaderboard prizes will continue as planned until the end.
➜ Keep the PvP element but make drastic changes to it (53)
Try to rebalance the game heavily so it becomes more engaging (buff defending warriors, increase shielded time, give warriors a cool down etc.). Keep the leaderboard with prizes for it at the end.
➜ Remove the PvP element (173)
Cancel the PvP element of the game, compensate everyone in raffle tickets for their efforts and move the leaderboard prizes into the raffle.
The poll has ended. Voting is no longer possible

I'm almost regretting the pvp, now the first makes 20k coins a day, people who do nothing it's obvious that they win !!! the only time I could win something ... :(

I like the leaderboard, how does it make it impossible to hide coins?

From the data I see, there are not enough "hiding spots" = strategies for the number of active players. If you hide something, it is found within a very short timespan. 10-30 minutes maybe. That makes it impossible to hoard anything - as you can see in the leaderboard which rarely shows any player with more than 70, 80 coins.
Now that *could* as well be an effect of players not playing the hoarding games with 2-3 weeks to go... very hard to tell, which is why I'm putting it up to the vote. Only the people playing the game know why the game is not working for them and what might help it :-)

I can't speak for anyone elses strategy, but mine is to spend every coin on raffle tickets until there is about 2 days to go, then make a run for the leaderboard. I can't see any way to hold a bunch of coins for that long, its hard just to hold them overnight. This way I have a shot at both.

jup. The way it's going right now, that's my to-go-to strategy as well. Very curious about the exact end-date/time now!

I thought that I read it was May 1st at midnight, but don't know which timezone.

Aranesh, what about evasive pets? If you attack a warrior and you lose, the treasure could be automatically hidden in another spot and you should find it again. That's how nature works.

The owner can always check his profile to find his warriors (edited)

Nice idea. That would make hiding coins much more worthwhile. With how the survey looks like right now, however, I think it's pretty clear which direction I'll have to go...

Yup. The direction is clear

That's a shame really, it then just becomes jumping around and clicking on coins when we see them. If we have been using up coins on the PvP side will we be compensated? It will also really favour those in a time zone making them able to do a lot of that clicking just before the end time. (edited)

I'm preparing a news entry with my plan for this change before putting anything live. Expect that to be up soon (today, in a few hours - ish)

I am personally really enjoying this game as it is right now. I've had a few large coin losses, but I've also had some big gains. I am curious how the other people playing are doing with raffle rickets vs. warriors. I currently have 378 raffle tickets and 4 150 warriors. Anyone else willing to share? Just curious what the field actually looks like.

Keep it the same except for one large part. Hide the pet protecting/defending's lvl and the defense itself. Make the risk outweigh an unknown reward.

I got up to damn near 250+ coins at one point, but honestly didn't understand how people were stealing them so quickly when I hadn't stashed any at all. But it's incredibly easy to find coins, you literally just go through each strategy, every variation available and check page after page. Ended up just deciding to go the raffle way, but at this point if it's being changed, probably won't even bother to keep up with it. Is what it is, but overall very unsatisfying and easy "treasure" hunt.

I think its about preparing for end game currently, ensuring you have enough pets at 150 to hoard in the final day. The problem I have is that I see people stash 1-30 coins, I have a 50% chance to take those coins but losing costs me 75 coins. Therefore there is little incentive to take their coins. I found 30 coins being stashed and attacked it 3 times and lost all 3. 225 coins to restore my pets.

Also if you remove the leaderboard, you remove the way to find people who have coins in their vault. I like the vault idea. I attack them to level my pets even if its just for 3-8 coins. There needs to be some PVE elements I think, like defended NPC stash where you attack for coins or items but losing is less penalising. Maybe 25% of AP coin cost to restore pet.

Interesting. I haven't figured out yet how to even attack another players vault. Can you enlighten me how to do that?

Ipsi

wrote on 2021-04-13 06:14:47

Check their profile, if you can attack them then you will see their vault.

Moos

wrote on 2021-04-14 09:47:43

Oh okay. I have checked a coule profiles, but never seen an option to attack a vault.

Ipsi

Currently most people dont have enough coins to be attacked, use invisibility cloaks or simply stash a few coins over the 50 coin mark. I find them occasionally.

The higher level pets need to be weighted to give them an advantage, or every pet/vault has the same "chance" to win the battle. My level 15 pet has the same chance to roll a 15 as a level 150, and if he wins every roll, he wins the battle. Why not roll d150?

Kyize#2472

wrote on 2021-04-14 14:30:45

I think higher level pets do have and advantage now. In your example, if a level 15 fights against a 150, they have the same chance to roll a 15. But with just one 15 the low level pet dies, while you need 10 times 15 to kill the high level pet.
That looks like and advantage to me. At least, when the difference between levels is high enough

Maybe i'm a pansy pacifist, but I just don't want to steal other people's coins. I really hated it the once or twice it happened to me in the beginning (I don't even know how, I guess I didn't understand that part of the pvp until it was changed.) It would be fun if the battles were PVE, then I wouldn't feel guilty. Since the changes I don't see many stashes, but when I do they're mega-powerful watchers. I even saw a mod's stash once! Backed away slowly...

It seems most people don't like pvp at all. So I think your idea is a good alternative. There are a few powerful npc, you can fight them and if you succeed you get a bigger reward like 100 coins or 10 raffle tickets depends how strong the npc is. I think that keeps the game intresting :)

I see a lot of potential in the PvP treasure game. So I have a suggestion for option 2. Each coin that you hide is an extra power level for the defending warrior but with a maximum let's say 100. So if you hide 50 coins + a warrior with 150 powerpoints then you defend your treasure with 200 power level. For 100 coins -> 250 power points. For 150 coins -> also 250 because of the 100 limit. I think that would help a lot to defend your stashes more likley. (edited)

it's very frustrating... i have stopped trying to save coins because they get stolen in a very short time... i make sure i watch if my coins hit 50 i get the tickets... at least with the tickets the stash i have found is still mine. it feels like there are people that are greedy that just watch to see people's stash and wait to steal that...maybe instead of searching for coins??? let others search and just watch the stash and steal? like i said i'm frustrated with it. i can't sit and babysit my coins, and i can't be on here 24/7 so, what ever the coins saved up for, i just will not be able to participate in that part the way it is.

Hoarding seems very much not worth it with the event going on for so long still. I feel like you're currently way better off just leveling your stash/pets to prepare for a final sprint (which is maybe a day or two).
Having played this for some time, I feel like the stashes may not even matter in the end as getting cloaks back-to-back is pretty feasible. This is a way safer way to hoard gold than the stashes for obvious reasons, and as long as you keep playing and finding cloaks until the end of the event it's pretty much down to RNG who ends up on top (if there are multiple people doing this).
