PET NEWS - BY DRAGONSAFTERDARK
This article is a running compilation for Dragonflight battle pets.

The bulk of the article is for Dragonflight launch, while links to subsequent patches will be at the top.

I want to say a big thank you to the people who helped make this article possible: Lazey, WonderWez, everyone who tagged me on Twitter and/or Discord when they discovered something, and everyone who took the time to comment on Wowhead. Without all of you, it wouldn't be nearly as complete or accurate. You're all wonderful and I truly appreciate your dedication to this amazing community! <3

5. Wild Pets Location Maps

I've created battle pet location maps and posted them to my Twitter page here.

These locations are not exhaustive, it's just where I noticed these pets spawning as I moved around the Isles.

6. Wild Pets (38)

Azure Crystalspine

These creatures are highly sought after by hunters looking to make weapons from the sharp crystals on its back.

  • Zone: The Azure Span
  • Family: Magic
  • Abilities: Bite, Spiked Skin, Crystal Prison, Poison Fang, Powerball, Crystal Overload

Black Slyvern Pup

Above the vast green plains and rolling hills the slyvern fly, leaving only tiny shadows on the ground to mark their path through the sky.

  • Zone: Ohn'ahran Plains
  • Family: Flying
  • Abilities: Scratch, Arcane Dash, Lift-Off, Flurry, Flyby, Predatory Strike
  • Additional Information:

I found mine in the Sundapple Copse in the Ohn'ahran Plains near Emberwatch around /way #2023 63.40, 22.11 Black Slyvern Pup

Once I captured it a regular, critter Slyvern Pup spawned in its place, so it might share spawn points with the critter versions. There was another location that has the critter version, but I can't recally exactly where it was. Basically, if you see the critters with the same models, you can kill them to try and spawn the Black Slyvern Pup.

Blue Dasher

The bad news is that these bugs are carnivorous. The good news is that they usually just eat other bugs.

  • Zone: Thaldraszus
  • Family: Flying
  • Abilities: Bite, Ancient Blessing, Bubble, Lash, Rake, Cyclone

Chalkshell Turtle

Despite its name, its shell is actually much tougher than chalk.

  • Zone: The Azure Span
  • Family: Aquatic
  • Abilities: Bite, Shell Shield, Shell Rush, Grasp, Ancient Blessing, Whirlpool
  • Additional Information:

A big thank you to WonderWez for discovering how to get this pet!

First, you need to find Lani in The Azure Span at /way #2024 10.77, 48.04 Lani (Chalkshell Turtle)

Once you find Lani you'll speak with them, and they'll offer you some Turtle Bait.

When you accept their offer, an extra action button pops up for the Turtle Bait. Click the extra action button, and that's when the Chalkshell Turtle will spawn for you to battle -- grats!

You can collect three of this pet, and the bait has a 1 minute CD.

The pet will remain spawned for 1 minute.

Crimsonspine

The blood of a crimsonspine flows through the clear crystal structures that make up its body, which causes its unique coloration.

  • Zone: Thaldraszus, The Azure Span
  • Family: Magic
  • Abilities: Bite, Spiked Skin, Wild Magic, Poison Fang, Ancient Blessing, Arcane Storm

Dusky Timbertooth

Hunters value these critters more for their companionship than their pelts.

  • Zone: Ohn'ahran Plains
  • Family: Beast
  • Abilities: Tail Slap, Healing Wave, Woodchipper, Gnaw, Amplify Magic, Beaver Dam
  • Additional Information:

I found mine at /way #2023 71.69, 74.18 Dusky Timbertooth

It showed up on my map, but I did have to clear sticks trapping it in the dam before I could battle it.

Emberling

The core temperature of an Emberling is hot enough to dissolve anything organic, so make sure to wear gloves if you want to pet it.

  • Zone: The Waking Shores
  • Family: Elemental
  • Abilities: Ooze Touch, Cauterize, Elementium Bolt, Cataclysm, Heat Up, Conflagrate

Grassland Stomper

  • Family: Beast
  • Abilities: Bite, Cute Face, Maul, Face Bite, Hibernate, Rampage

Igneoid

An Igneoid is formed when magma makes it to Azeroth's surface and is infused with dark elemental magic. The resulting creature is tiny, fierce, and very cute.

  • Zone: Thaldraszus, The Waking Shores, The Azure Span
  • Family: Elemental
  • Abilities: Stone Shot, Stoneskin, Stone Rush, Bite, Wild Magic, Rock Barrage

Ironbeak Duck

Though many creatures of the Dragon Isles are mysterious, the ducks are perhaps the most so. Where did they come from? Where are they going? What are they planning? We may never know.

  • Zone: Ohn'ahran Plains, The Waking Shores
  • Family: Flying
  • Abilities: Peck, Shriek,Egg Barrage, Slicing Wind, Hawk Eye, Flock

Kindlet

  • Zone: The Azure Span
  • Family: Beast
  • Abilities: Hoof, Spiked Skin, Headbutt, Chew, Evanescence, Stampede

To see the Pale Baby Vorquins you need to head to Camp Antonidas, then click on a book called the Magical Creature Manual in the pavilion at /way #2024 45.86, 38.30 Magical Creature Manual (Pale Baby Vorquin)

Once you click on it, you'll get a 5-minute buff called Sight of Elusive Vorquin.

The book became unclickable for my character until I relogged, but it might just have an internal CD.

Plucky Duckling

This is the terror that flaps o'er the dragon isles. This is the winged nightmare that pecks at your emerald dreams. What? No it's not Deathwing, it's a duck!

  • Zone: Ohn'ahran Plains, The Waking Shores, Valdrakken
  • Family: Aquatic
  • Abilities: Water Jet, Shriek, Bubble, Surge, Counterstrike, Pump
  • Additional Information:

The one in Valdrakken I found at /way 60.58, 56.89 Plucky Duckling

  • Abilities: Bite, Emerald Dream, Maul, Roar, Ironskin, Rampage
  • Additional Information:

A big thank you to WonderWez, who hunted down this elusive creature and was kind enough to share the location with us!

This wild pet can be found in Thaldraszus as a potential spawn at /way #2025 48.8, 55.7 Razortooth Bear Cub, in the Tyrhold Reservoir area (just east of Valdrakken). It respawned for me in the same exact spot after about 15 mins.

You do not have to be an engineer to use the Zapthrottle Soul Inhaler, however, everything we have heard so far indicates that only engineers might be able to get the spirits from the cage.

It also seems as though you need to wait 15 minutes for the caged spirit to become 'Docile' before it has a low drop chance for the spirits.

All other Clusters and Recipes will drop from the various repeatable treasures of the zones.

A big thank you to Neryssa on Wowhead for doing the majority of the legwork on finding this pet!

As of right now, there are two quest chains you'll need to complete before you have access to everything for this quest.

To get access to the quest itself you'll need to complete the campaign quest chain through Wrathion's Gambit. Before you do this she will not be at The Hissing Grotto /way #2022 20.14, 39.54 Vazallia

Keep in mind she does turn into a dragon and fly around the grotto, and according to Lazey; "She's doing a 240sec cycle, 105sec human form for quest, 135sec not available while flying around."

Before she'll offer the quest, you need to speak with her and select the dialogue prompt; "What are you doing here?" She'll reply something along the lines of; "Whatever I please." Then the quest will become available from her.

Before you do any quests, two of the drinks are available for you to pick up:

Riptide Brew ~ /way #2022 63.24, 79.92 Riptide Brew
Slam Bam Swill ~ /way #2022 46.92 30.71 Slam Bam Swill

Once you pick up the quest, three of the drinks will be available without any extra steps:

Poppfizz Punch ~ /way #2022 39.30, 38.33 Popfizz Punch on a shipwreck
Stealthy Elven Port ~ /way #2022 25.71, 55.17 Stealthy Elven Port (Outfitter Tipech)
Happy Trigger Sour ~ /way #2022 43.08, 67.37 Happy Trigger Sour Firstmate Kaleson (Patrolling Vendor)

For Whirlwind Wine there are three steps:
1. Purchase Kul Tiran Red from Kora Fullsails in The Obsidian Bulwark
2. Fly to the Skytop Observatory, then head over to the Restless Wetlands for some air elementals around /way #2022 76.32, 47.33 Rampaging Wind
3. Throw the Kul Tiran Red at one of the Rampaging Wind, and it will spit out Whirlwind Wine directly into your bag, so make sure you have room!

For the final drink, Flameslinger Rum you will need to complete a short, multi-quest chain. The Worldbreaker chain will start with Ingot's quests: Punching Up & A Cultist's Misgivings

Ingot can be found at /way #2022 39.44, 48.30 Ingot

Once you complete the chain, Dealer Vexil will be inside the cave and to the left across from where you killed Cygenoth for The Shadow of His Wings

/way #2022 35.71, 47.96 Cave Entrance for Dealer Vexil
/way #2022 34.73, 46.73 Dealer Vexil (Inside Cave)

Once you get all the items, head back to Vazallia at The Hissing Grotto. When you turn it in you get gold, xp if you're still leveling, reputation, and Spyragos will appear in your bag.

Azure Frillfish

Oddly enough, you met this fish drifting through the air.

  • Family: Aquatic
  • Abilities: Bite, Cleansing Rain, Blood in the Water, Surge, Healing Wave, Geyser
  • Cageable: Yes
  • Zone: The Waking Shores

A big thank you to Lazey for figuring out how to get this pet, and for sharing it with us!

Bubble Drifter is listed as the source for the Azure Frillfish battle pet, found it circling at /way #2022 40.48 41.36 Bubble Drifter
The intended way to learn about that treasure and then being able to interact with it looks like this:

Find A Guide to Rare Fish while digging in Disturbed Dirt (requires Dragonscale Expedition Renown 5) or looting Expedition Scout's Packs (requires Dragonscale Expedition Renown 2) anywhere on the Dragon Isles.

When you use the map, it will add a chest icon for the Bubble Drifter treasure on your The Waking Shores map, and flags hidden quest (Quest #70527) complete (guess to avoid future duplicate drops on that character).

When you travel to the marked spot, you'll find the Bubble Drifter and a Fragrant Plant nearby. /way #2022 40.48 41.36 Bubble Drifter

You can now loot the Fragrant Plant to get a 5min Fragrant Plant Scent buff to attract the Bubble Drifter.

The final step is interact with the Bubble Drifter to get your Azure Frillfish battle pet.

Blackfeather Nester

There is no fury quite like that of a mother Blackfeather defending her nest.

  • Family: Flying
  • Abilities: Slicing Wind, Metabolic Boost, Lift-Off, Thrash, Squawk, Amplify Magic
  • Cageable: Yes
  • Zone: The Azure Span

You can find the Pepper Hammer up near the top of the giant tree at /way #2024 26.52, 46.18 Pepper Hammer

At the bottom of the hollow portion there is lootable Tree Sap, then a Stick back near the top. When you pick up the sap you get a five-minute buff to feed the Pepper Hammer. If the Stick is not clickable for you, you'll need to /reload. At that point the stick should be clickable. The Pepper Hammer will descend down to the stick, at which point you can click on it to receive your pet! This is a one-time loot treasure.

Once I looted the Pepper Hammer these items disappeared.

Chestnut

Chestnut once found an acorn larger than he was, ate the whole thing, and doubled in size. It's a good thing he didn't eat a Trunkalumpf.

  • Family: Critter
  • Abilities: Feral Clawstorm (New), Cyclone, Nut Barrage, Powerball, Crouch, Swarm
  • Cageable: Yes
  • Zone: Thaldraszus

A big thank you to Matjz on Wowhead for finding the treasure and sharing it with everyone!

Chestnut is found on Thaldraszus at /way #2025 49.43 62.90 as an Acorn Harvester standing on a rock near a tree.

To obtain it you need to find an Acorn on the ground nearby, interacting with one will give you a buff called Acorn.

Interacting with the Acorn Harvester with the buff will reward you with Chestnut.

/way #2025 49.38 62.66 Acorn
/way #2025 49.87 63.13 Acorn
/way #2025 49.79 63.21 Acorn
/way #2025 49.43 62.90 Acorn Harvester

Note: You may need to reload or relog for the cogwheel to appear to make the Acorn Harvester clickable.

Cubbly

Cubbly's extended proximity to time magic has given him powers far beyond the average bear.

  • Family: Beast
  • Abilities: Bite, Crouch, Rampage, Roar, Hibernate, Bend Time
  • Cageable: No
  • Zone: Thaldraszus

A big thank you to Lazey for finding out how to get this pet, and for passing the information along!

To get battle pet Cubbly, you have to find the Strange Bear Cub in a cave in Eon's Fringe in Thaldraszus on the Dragon Isles. /way #2025 52.46 83.61

Some weird time magic is going on in that area, so most of the creatures there are trapped in time. While you're there, you'll also suffer a Temporal Shock that constantly deals nature damage, and applies a stacking Unstable Time movement slow effect. So your time there is kinda limited, but don't be afraid, some mages will teleport you to a safe spot before you'd die.

There's another barrier before you can get to the pet and it's literally a barrier of rocks that block the cave entrance. So you'll need Dragon Isles Mining, or Expedition Explosives; a reward from Demolitions Access when you reach Renown Level 20 with the Dragonscale Expedition on your first character, purchasable from Pathfinder Jeb, but I guess you can again go for another free one from the quest on another character, when your first one reached that Renown), or someone with one of those who clears the entrance for you.

When you're inside, just interact with the Strange Bear Cub to get your Cubbly. Congrats!

A big thank you to Caelus and friend for finding the riddle objects so we could collect our beautiful, pink friend!

Note: As of the Beta, you do not need to visit the Hornswog or open the Observant Riddles: A Field Guide before collecting the items.

The Possessive Hornswog can be found in The Waking Shores right around /way #2022 64.44, 69.14, with the way up (on foot) starting at /way #2022 66.82, 72.36

It is guarding the Hidden Hornswog Hostage, and you need to solve the riddle in Observant Riddles: A Field Guide to get past the Hornswog:
Treasures held by one who croaks? Fear not, for I have an infallible hoax.

One part bar of ivory slick to halt a most unwelcome kick. Seek out bubbles quite bizarre so that our simple trick might go far.

One part prize of crescent gold, a wondrous flavour to behold. Find this bounty flung far and wide, only precious to those with fur pure white.

And last but not least a pleasurable crunch to give that 'swog a delightful lunch. Abscond with a material so brittle and white it often gives everyone a fright.

The three items indicated by the riddles are:
Adventurer's Lost Soap Bar - /way #2022 39.64 84.69
Marmoni's Prize - /way #2022 47.73 83.63
Well-Preserved Bone - /way #2022 66.18 55.30

Once you get the items, you'll head over to the Observant Riddles: A Field Guide to combine the items. Once you do, target the Hornswog, toss the treat, then head into the cave to collect your pet!

Then starting up the hill behind the huts at /way #2023 61.41, 41.24
He heads to the right all the way to /way #2023 61.86, 42.25
Before he heads back behind the huts and down the hill toward the gate again.

When you click on him it casts Treasure Map: Ohn'ahran Plains, which drops Ludo's Stash Map in your bags.

Clicking on the map revealed the treasure Dirt Mound around /way #2023 70.64, 35.37

The only thing that dropped for me (on beta) is the Slightly Chewed Duck Egg which will hatch into the Viridescent Duck after three days.

13. Secret Pets

Bugbiter Tortoise

This turtle eats bugs, as you'd expect from its name, but you wouldn't believe how large the bugs are

  • Family: Aquatic
  • Abilities: Bite, Amplify Magic, Tidal Wave, Grasp, Shell Shield, Swarm of Flies
  • NPC: Cymre Brightblade at /way #2022 22.8, 95.1
  • Cymre gives you two clues for finding the items: the Eroded Fossil will be under waterfalls, and the Petrified Dragon Egg will be in caves.

A big thank you to all the commenters on Wowhead & Discord for providing the coordinates where they confirmed sightings for their items!

Player-Confirmed Coordinates for Petrified Dragon Egg:

36, 90
33.31, 87.19

Player-Confirmed Coordinates for Eroded Fossil:
22.1, 95.5
23, 94

Snowclaw Cub

An adult Snowclaw can rattle the very trees with its roar. A cub can rattle one of the smaller branches.

  • Family: Beast
  • Abilities: Bite, Hibernate, Deep Freeze, Roar, Flash Freeze, Rampage
  • Location: The Azure Span ~ /way #2024 67.46, 18.48
  • Note: This pet will despawn when someone loots them and has a respawn timer of roughly ~45 minutes.

A big thank you to WonderWez & Aroim for working out how to get this adorable cub for us!

You'll need three things to get the Snowclaw Cub:

1. The Honorary Dryad title from Thalendra in Valdrakken at /way #2112 72.8 66.0 Thalendra
~ To get this you'll need to complete the short chain she offers, starting with A Dryad's Work is Never Done, then when you turn in A Dryadic Remedy you'll receive the title! Keep in mind, this title can be removed by doing certain things such as Party Sync, so only turn this in for the title right before you head out to collect the Cub, just in case.

2. Hornswog Hunk x 3

3. Honey Snack x 1
~ You can get this one of two ways:
From Dealer Vexil, who requires you to be on neutral terms with the Worldbreakers (see Spyragos' section for more details on the Worldbreaker's Chain). If you already did the chain and Dealer Vexil is unfriendly again, you can farm Obsidian Keys to turn them into Igys the Believer at /way #2022 32.2 52.4 Igys the Believer

From the Auction House or a friend.

Once you get everything, head to the coordinates above near Theron's Watch, and interact with the Snowclaw Cub. You'll get a dialogue prompt to offer it food, than it will appear in your bags.

I just got the Ohuna Companion from my first hunt spoils bag of the week, so that may be where the Bakar Companion comes from as well.

With the new 1750 and 2000 achievements for owned pets, and approximatively 150 pets per expansion, we are set for 5 years at least before someone can attain 2000, and we will most likely have to wait after dragonflight for the first 1750 achievements haha

They like to do things in advance eh

Is Swog weakened? It used to have 5500 HP

DragonsAfterDark

Yep! Swog was weakened, and I'll be doing a full update on her and all her abilities today. It just got too late last night by the time I got done with updating all the pets ^^

Looking at the in game pet journal, there is a pet, Spürnase, that costs 10,000 polished pet charms. Do we believe this this a mistake at this time, or will we likely need much more than the 6,150 charms posted? (editiert)

Scout will cost 5k. They might have made a mistake and reverted the journal (there was a discrepancy at one point between the journal and vendor), but at the vendor it's 5k

Achivements for 1750 and 2000 unique pets?, I have 1458 unique pets at the moment, and there are 9 more in the game, I can get. Rest is from old promotions or discontinued from the pet shop. The new expansion has about 100 pets, making 1500 entirely possible, but not 1750 and certainly not 2000. (editiert)

Hi DrangsAfterDark! Thanks for this huge compilation of the new pets. Huge fan of your videos on the topic in YouTube! I know you've said repeatedly that you don't pet PVP but I'm personally keeping my fingers crossed for some pet PVP videos from you. <3

DragonsAfterDark

schrieb am 2022-07-18 19:35:20

No problem, and I'm glad you enjoy the videos! ^^

I can't guarantee anything PvP related, but maybe if we see a revamp like Ion spoke about in his interview with Hazelnitty, or at the very least some kind of weather nerf, I might go for my last couple of pvp pet achievements ^^'

lol. IKR? I get demolished with weather all the time but pet battles are pretty much the only reason I'm still subbed in SL.

Glad to see so many new aquatic pets. I hope their ability are more diversified and don't confine to normal ability such as water jet / pump / cleaning rain

There are some awesome new skins and details, turtles could have used a little more uniqueness & love, but the fish look amazing! It's good to see new achievments to reach for and I'm looking forward to hunting all the new pets down & making them a part of my zoo.
