Haru wrote on 2021-02-02 13:57:00

If you are having an issue with the backline pets as I had look for an alterative black claw flock/swarm/etc pet for Ikky. For the squirrel/beaver type combo I had to swap to a chitterspine skitterling to do the trick. (edited)

Strategty does not come close to working. Backline pets were rare quality rabbit and uncommon quality frog. Had to adopt a new approach.

Mot

wrote on 2018-07-29 01:14:12

I guess this no longer works as it used to, due to the changes with BfA:

“Haunt: returns the pet at 50% health when sacrificed instead of 100%.”

Shiney79 wrote on 2017-11-22 02:12:21

This can fail if one or both the backline pets are uncommon and/or rabbits.

MolsonofAle wrote on 2017-09-20 12:06:00

Worked great. I was using Mr. Wiggles lvl 16 to as lvl pet.
Used uncanny luck before swapping back out.
Icefang went down on 2nd run of flock.
Got 1056 xp with lesser pet treat. 2 lvls. not bad.
Thanks for the strat :-)

Awbee wrote on 2017-09-05 16:52:18

The strat doesn't work for me sadly, tried it 3 times now. My Val'kyr dies in the second round, after I cast Haunt. It's a rare H/H Val'kyr with 1806 health.

Ryuuken wrote on 2017-09-07 22:41:49

That's what the ability does. Read it's text.
Your Val'kyr is supposed to die. You bring in your level pet and then swap to Ikky.
The XP isn't really that great for any pets you're leveling.

julianne wrote on 2017-06-11 05:38:33

Worked brilliantly my level 23 pet only got 560 xp but was enough to bring him up to level 24 which made my day. Keep up the great work guys and gals !!!!

nes wrote on 2017-04-01 12:25:37

Oh wow, what a horrible strat.. the shadow shock kept missing on the mud frog. Only reason I won was after my unborn died I had a small amount of hp left on ikky to come back in and kill him.

Tormentia-Kul Tiras wrote on 2017-04-01 16:04:14

The only reasons I can think of that this isn't working for you is that maybe your Val'kyr is a B/B breed. With H/H it has always worked fine for me (Ikky only comes in one breed), you aren't using rare breeds, or you aren't using level 25s. I have literally never had this strat fail for me.

Geki wrote on 2017-04-26 17:38:23

What mud frog? This is the wolf in Highmountain fight.

Maui-Turtle wrote on 2017-05-01 10:54:39

The mud frog is the 3rd pet. After the wolf dies there are 2 other pets.

Fragie wrote on 2017-04-21 16:17:51

Only 725XP now for 1lvl pet :-(

Finneor wrote on 2017-04-30 17:43:06

Yeah, the xp is pretty irrelevant for this fight. Level 16 received 900xp.

Sarth wrote on 2017-04-30 13:26:13

With 2-1-2 Enchanted Broom you can pretty much kill the Icefang without needing a lvl 25 Backup pet, bring a lvl 1 if you need (the fight doesn't give much XP, around ~700 , but its enough to bring the pets off lvl 1 haha )

Start by negating the Icefang's Blistering Cold+Frostbite damage with the sandstorm, and Wind Up until you kill it, keeping sandstorm active.
Try clearing the 'mostly-beast' backline pets with Batter+Wind Up, and use the lvl 25 backup pet if necessary.

In my case I used a 1-2-1 Mechanical Axebeak, both pets are cageable and can be bought off AH, or made with engineering.

Enchanted Broom is a S/S pet and can pretty much outspeed all pets (unless one of backline has a speed boost of sorts, but nothing it can't handle).

Evil wrote on 2017-04-01 22:16:22

Ikky 2/1/1 Mechanical Axebeak 1/2/2 best breed: P/P

Black Claw, Flock

Mechanical Axebeak:

Alpha Strike vs aquatic or critter
Haywire vs beast

Evil wrote on 2017-04-01 22:08:37

I dont understand Unborn Val'kyr here, this fight is much more simple, because Ikky just destroys Wolf.

other enemy pets are either critter/beast/aquatic

so as 2ndary pet you can use strong beast like spiders (Crystalline Broodling P/S)
or some snake, or flying pets/

especially my favourite Mechanical Axebeak!! (strong vs beasts and aquatic, so 2 from 3 backline pets)

Kayz wrote on 2017-04-01 20:55:09

Confirm 2248xp for level 1 with HAT and PET BATTLE EVENT week buff.

Araeya wrote on 2017-04-01 12:18:03

He one-shotted my lvl 1 lvl'ing pet. there isn't really a way to bring in a pet that low. I put in a lvl 9 and got about 2.5k (pet weekend).

Melle wrote on 2017-04-01 12:30:34

I had no trouble with this strat today with a level 1 pet. It never took a hit and Ikky finished the fight. Never even had to bring the Val'kyr back in.

Tormentia-Kul Tiras wrote on 2017-04-01 16:00:32

Your level 1 should never get attacked. You swap him in and then immediately back out. The strat has worked perfectly for me since it was first posted months ago.

Adraxa wrote on 2016-11-14 14:38:18

Ghastly Kid is a good replacement for the unborn val'kyr if you don't have it. Subbed that and it worked just fine.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-02-11 18:32:40

If you don't have the Unborn Val'kyr , their spawn rate is greatly increased making it very easy to get one...or three !

Lyta wrote on 2017-03-03 16:28:27

My favorite place for checking is crystal forest below dalaran. Had only the 3 spawn points to easy to check them doing daily dalaran quests for rep. So even if you don't camp there I got 3 in a weeks time all of them there.

Kalaida wrote on 2017-01-13 09:38:25

Did they nerf this?
Did it 3 times today and each time the Icefang died before Curse of Doom went off.

Saryas wrote on 2016-11-11 13:50:16

Goes well with the new flying pets you get from the World Quests, instead of Ikky. Use Warning Squawk followed by Falcosaur Swarm :)

Yäger wrote on 2017-01-10 04:02:51

Thank you! I had much more ease using Bloodgazer Hatchling than Ikky. Ikky strat failed on me twice until I saw your remark. Excellent :D

Beancurd wrote on 2016-09-16 21:23:22

This quest no longer gives significant xp to levelling pets. I only got ~700 xp to a level 1 pet

steffy wrote on 2016-09-18 20:11:51

Akara wrote on 2016-09-19 03:23:39

Yup, I didn't use any sort of xp buffs since I was just doing this for my emissary but my level 1 only went up to level 5.

Aranesh

wrote on 2016-10-04 02:28:03

Still a good amount more than a wild battle :) That's why I kept the leveling pet in here. It's a nice way to get a level 1 pet up a bit while doing this world quest.

Tyrsa wrote on 2016-10-06 03:48:43

I agree with Xufu. There are enough battles that need a level 5+ pet to carry that one more that will bring a level 1 to level 6 is helpful.

That said if you find the side pets are beavers in your fight, black claw and flock instead of the quills might be a better option since the flock will eat the dam and do damage in the same round.

Isiliel wrote on 2016-10-29 16:54:14

My LvL 20 Pet got 750 today without any buffs. Maybe they pushed it up a little with last patch again :)

Rifkin wrote on 2016-11-11 19:50:11

for WQ Falcosaur with 2 magic pets, I started with Gusting Grimoire Curse of Doom followed by Agony, swapped to Enchanted Broom using wind up and batter.

Sneaks wrote on 2016-11-24 00:25:09

Worked well with the Sharptalon Hatchling + 2 magic pets as well. :>

Lilaria wrote on 2016-09-16 20:22:39

I used Stormwing instead of Ikky. Call Lightning + flock is great against beasts!

Fawnix wrote on 2016-09-16 23:10:00

Thank you, Stormwing worked since my Ikky is level 1.

Solitha wrote on 2016-09-16 20:05:14

I suppose the backup pets are random. I ended up with two that had +undead attacks, which killed off my UV, and left me with my leveling pet.
